  • Director Wes Anderson and The Life Aquatic crew discuss the effort that went into crafting the world of Steve Zissou. Join us as we dive deep into the costumes, set design, and visual effects of this wild action adventure film.
    The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is a 2004 American comedy-drama film written by Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach and directed by Anderson. It is Anderson's fourth feature-length film and was released in the United States on December 25, 2004.
    The film stars Bill Murray as Steve Zissou, an eccentric oceanographer who sets out to exact revenge on the "jaguar shark" that ate his partner Esteban. Zissou is both a parody of and homage to French diving pioneer Jacques Cousteau, to whom the film is dedicated.
    The film also features Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, Jeff Goldblum, Anjelica Huston and Bud Cort. Seu Jorge has a minor part, but contributes heavily to the film's soundtrack. It was filmed in and around Naples, Ponza, and the Italian Riviera.
    The film was released to mixed reviews and was a box office flop. In the decade following its release it has garnered a cult following, and is now viewed more positively by both critics, and fans. It was also since remastered and re-released by The Criterion Collection in 2014.

    Henry Selick worked on this movie even he’s not the director because after MonkeyBone was a flop which causes him to stop directing he did a minor part of being a stop motion animator for the film

      The black singer in the movie did covers of this and other songs in Portugese (?). That was a David Bowie song, Major Tom. I'm not sure if the singer (who is apparently well known) released an album of his songs in this movie.

    Sounds like Wes watched a lot of Jacque Cousteau, I used to love those, and Life Aquatic reminds me of that

      Well, the film has a dedication to Jacques Cousteau at the end. No coincidence.

    • @IHateYoutubeHandles615
      @IHateYoutubeHandles615 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is very clearly a satirical homage to Cousteau. For example Zissous ship is the Belafonte. Singer Harry Belafonte ang Calypso style music and his thirst album was called Calypso. Cousteaus ship was the Calypso. Belafonte -> Calypso -> Cousteau.
      The movie is full of stuff like this.
