If your latch is not locking when going to a rinse or spin cycle the lid lock may not be your issue. The plastic latch that is on the door just need to be pushed down a little more so the lid lock can lock it. My solution to this was to just use some electrical tape and add some length to that plastic lid latch. I took the plastic lid latch off (two screws) and added electrical tape to the end of that piece that does not latch into the lid lock. So added little by little and then screwed it back in. You need to make sure that the plastic lid latch is lining up properly but this solution seems to be working for me. And I did replace the lid lock and the issue was still there. Wish I could add a picture to really show you but hopefully that helps someone.

You’re working on the exact same machine that I have.. Westinghouse had a part that says will work for $20 less, but didn’t look exactly the same so I opted for the REAL GE part like you’re using.. ABOUT $80 including postage. I did have a little trouble putting the new latch in to screw it on, but finally got it. You just saved me a buttload of $$$’s THANK YOU!!

AWESOME ! Thank you so much. I believe this could the problem. A week ago I noticed "by accident" lifted the lid and surprised it wasn't locked? I ran a couple of loads. with it that way. Today it wouldn't spin I did move it yesterday to put in new flooring. I guess I will need to check the belt and determine if I need the part. Cheers from Oregon

Need some help. The washer will drain only when I place a weight like a book on top of the door, it will then lock. If I have the weight on the door it works just fine. When I don’t have the weight on the lid, it will fill just fine and wash, but when it comes time to drain, the red light will blink for spin and lid locked and will not drain. Is it the switch? The lock? Do I need to replace the whole lid lock? Maybe something needs to be cleaned? Again it works fine when I place a weight on the lid. Thanks in advance for your input!

How do you seperate the modular connector? Just pull? I couldnt get mine apart? Finally got it apart ended up having to cut the wires off the junked unit and this one i had to vise grip gently and then use a pair of flat pliers and it finally pulled apart. I couldnt believe how hard it was to remove i thought there must have been tab or something to push on first.

Sorry brother already handled it... had to take the top gray piece off the module and then pry the black piece off. All four pins were stuck. Finally I had to break the rest of the module off around the plug with only the pins left stuck in the plug. Then I had to take a pair of needle nose pliers, wrap the excess of the pin around them for leverage and then pried them out of the plug individually. Luckily there was no damage to the plug and it plugged right into the new module with no problem and the machine is working again. I didn't see any reason for them to be stuck in there like that. No scorch marks, no burning, no melting, no corrosion. It was very weird. Thanks for the reply!!@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance

I have contacted GE and a couple of repair technicians locally for confirmation. I was looking for a bypass while I wait three weeks for a switch. GE has implemented a safety feature where we can no longer create a bypass on a safety switch. The control board reads the latch within milliseconds to lock and unlock. So now you know. Mine is a stack GUD24ESSMWW.
