No. It was Police acting exactly how one would expect. Trying to seem brave and good but in reality the second comes to actually upholding their commitment to protect civilians (vulnerable civilians especially) even if means laying down their life. They chose to do what many before had done. It was only when there was finally outrage at the fact they tried to negotiate with a prior school shooter that they even started to go in fast the few shootings in the last few years. Was never going to last because acting for PR reasons only isn't sustainable.

And goes on attempting to explain, oh, I don't know, ...how hard it was for the cops that WERE THERE.
      This is galling.

I'm sorry that you think the police are the evil people in this situation and that in your ignorance you likely think that if you had been there you would have kicked in the door and taken the guy out when the truth is likely the opposite. I'm more sorry that all it took was three days for the media to shift from focusing on the real issue, ease of access to weapons, and a culture that believes 19 children are acceptable losses just so long as a few people can own guns that have no place in sociaty. The fact that people still expect that is laughable. Cops only shoot when the other party is unarmed. So, the SCOTUS ruling, combined with sovereign immunity guarantees no one will be held responsible for this entire situation. Fabulous country, right?

The greatest amount of violent crime happens in cities with the strictest gun laws. Why did it take 12 minutes for the police to respond after this lumatic ditched the car? He basically advertised his plan on social media and his grandmother called 911. Yet, no one stopped him. And the police did nothing at all to stop this….even when so far as to tackle parents who tried to rescue the children…..some of whom were probably armed and could have stopped this. Governor Abbott himself would have likely rushed the school. This isnt about him….it’s about police failures

The door was probably unlocked when the P.O.S arrived and he locked the door behind him. School locks and doors are high grade, built to last for a generation. You can't easily kick in a typical school door. Shooting the lock would take a couple of shots, then kick the door. By then the shooter is blasting away through the door. The doors are strong but not bullet-proof. No-win scenario for the police without body armour or shields and fully automatic weapons with large magazines.
I've been in construction for forty years, built many schools. Never once was there a design consideration for active shooters. But then, I live in Canada, we don't worship guns. We see what gun love has done to the US and we don't want that here. But just today a man in Toronto was shot to death by police for walking near a school with a rifle. Turned out to be a pellet gun.

The way to tell if something is precious to you is how hard and how far you are willing to fight for it. The American public has proven that their guns and the right to bear arms is far more precious than the lives of people and especially our children. If that were not the truth we would have fought for gun laws that would have resolved this issue instead of finding reasons, excuses give explanations as to why we and how we should keep our guns. People have said that this Country has always been a Country to bear arms and that is true. Our forefathers wrote it in the Constitution with not one reference in the Constitution about children, women or minorities. Why??? Because they were considered to not be considered. They were expendable. Today it's our children who have to fight for themselves to be recognized. Take the Parkland shooting where students who became activist were mock, belittled and shamed by pro gun activist for their desire to have something done about gun violence. It is ridiculous that we are in our 27th school gun shooting in 2022 and we are only in our 5th month of this year. And to act like our children ( people in general) are precious is a real joke because it should have only taken 1 school shooting to have turned things around. But the precious gun and the rights of guns is far more important than a human life.

You are not being upfront when the timeline changes over several days, where a school officer are being shot at one day, for then telling us there were no school officer there at all the next day.

It shouldn't be considered the right thing to do, or rewarded, it should be expected.
One reason this happened at all is a culture within the police where they no longer are willing to risk their own lives, something that has evolved within the service in many countries.
This is a culture contradictory to the law, and as a leader he should have to take the responsibility for that.
The cops who were there should be dismissed for cowardice and charged.

it's easy to talk. The underlying reason is the ease of access to assault weapon and gun culture making it difficult for normal police to do the job. When you think about police, do not think that any of them are main character in the movie. They do not get paid that much.

If we heard shots being fired, we are to go in and engage and eliminate the shooter. We received extensive training in active shooter responses and I can say that I mentally prepared myself for when that would happen. As a campus police officer I thank God no one ever entered any school sites whether high school, middle school or elementary and attempted to harm any of the kids who should be safe, but whenever I spoke to the other officers I worked with, we made it clear to each other that we're going to go in and not wait and if one of us gets shot then so be it, that's what we signed up for. To put it plain and simple, I will never ever betray my oath to protect and serve. That key phrase is protect.

Their classmates dead and dying around them, frantically calling 911 to beg for rescue, trying to play dead, while police right outside the door simply DECLINE to rescue them, and stand around and wait for a key. Inhuman. They abandoned those children and are complicit in their murders. Yes, obviously the commanding officer is most at fault, but every officer who was “just following orders” is also complicit. History doesn’t look well on the “good Germans” and neither should we. Those kids were willfully abandoned and left to die. The cops were accomplices to the gunman.

@@freakbiker That's not what the defunding movement actually wants. The actual movement was to take the often, bloated, cash flows of some of the departments with the largest budgets and put them towards creating local agencies that are specialized in dealing with things like mental health and DV cases. The idea being that if they can route "relatively" minor 911 calls that don't require an armed response to that agency, that'll free up resources and time for things like training and more serious calls. While, at the same time, being able to treat and deal with those situations where having an armed individual can escalate the situation before there's even an interaction.

And the message to students is "Sorry kids, but as adults, we refuse to address gun violence because it is too hard and I'm too lazy to be bothered anyway. Most Politicians do not care, only care about getting re-elected and money and power. Concerning the Uvalde massacre of precious children in Texas. This is becoming more frequent. I see many becoming mad, sad or Politicians trying to take advantage or the situation, but very few good idea's being talked about or implemented. Here is my two cents. First off I believe strongly about the 2nd Admendment and no one is taking my gun in a society where they are defunding the Police and taking gang units out by the defunding who were getting guns off the street, zero bail, Soros funded DA's letting out criminals early, not charging them for many of their crimes, and changing laws like theft to $950 before it's a crime to detour. How is this working out? Plus we had lock downs and job losses because of covid and before that riots that burned down businesses, creating more homeless, money problems and mental health problems and more. BUT we need to do something to protect our precious innocent children. When I was young this type of thing was rare. Why? Less population was one and open borders do not help. Also we did not have radicals on the internet trying to radicalize our children then. This needs to be monitored and safeguards by the parents at a minimum or State. If the parents or those in charge see worrisome behavior the parents need to act on it, and not just think their child is that innocent 8 year old they used to have. This is really caring for the child and society. So hold the parents responsible if they can prove the Parent knew and did nothing with a fine and or misdemeanor. We also did not have China giving us a virus and the Government and rich taking advantage of the situation at our expense. Also have you noticed that many of the school shootings were done by like 18 to 20 year olds? Make it illegal to own guns if under 21 unless you are in the Military which is under guidance and discipline. How about 2 armed guards at schools with a metal detector and one entrance? Many are complaining about Texas gun laws, but from my studies, most of the States with the most liberal gun laws have the lowest crimes from guns. And when crime is up over 50% in many Democrat run cities, I will not give up my guns to defend myself, loved ones and the innocent. If one has been convicted of a violent crime whether 16 or 60, make it illegal for them to own a gun. At least they are giving serial numbers now to ghost guns which can be traced, or give them 90 days to register or a fine and if used in a crime without being registered triple the fine and add a misdemeanor. Find ways to make it harder for criminals, young gang members and mentally ill to get guns. If school teachers want to take the training, let them carry and protect. To me these seem practical and not emotional. I came up with several others, but many have brought them up before by others. Just my 2 cents.

You do realize the UPD has a majority of Hispanic police and two of them lost children in the shooting.
All you are doing is spreading hate in the false flame that you are protesting it.👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👍

I just think they are cowards and they knew they were in big danger. Most cops are Hispanic so I don’t think the kids’ race played any part

So the whole "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" BS can now be officially retired; because it's just that. BS.

      It has always been BS

      Yes and no.
Yes, because the cops were ‘good guys with a gun’ but did not go in.
No, because the people who talk about ‘good guys with a gun’ do not mean cops. They mean civilians, because they understand when there is a dangerous situation there is a chance the cops will NOT be there. This situation proves that.
      So, yes and no.
Those who say yes see it as a reason why having guns to protect yourself is not going to help since these ‘good guys with a gun’ did not come through.
Those who say no ironically see this as more reason why they should be armed, because the cops are useless and they themselves need to be the ‘good guy with the gun.’
And that is why both sides of the gun debate will never change

How is it BS? What other ways do you have of stopping a bad guy with a gun? Waiting until he runs out of bullets or decides to take himself out?
