    When I was 20, I lived in the same apartment complex as my child’s mom. These people robbed a store, were chased by several police into the complex. Turns out they were my child’s moms upstairs neighbor. It was a barricade situation and I was begging them (police) to let me grab my child’s mom and 2 year old daughter from their apartment, for obvious reasons. They refused over and over. I talked to their sergeant, who finally allowed me to go grab them. This was 16 years ago. I didn’t understand it then, dont now. If cops are not willing to run in and save your loved ones then dammit they better step out of your way.

    • @zyngremlin7378

      It's so incredibly disheartening to see people defending these cops. 19 cops need to wait an hour and 25 minutes for border patrol and a "tactical advantage" because you're unwilling to risk your lives. Then they had the audacity to come out immediately after and call themselves heroes. There's no way any of those 19 cops went to bed that night thinking of themselves as heroes. Best way to avoid this in the future:
    Allow any teachers, admin who qualify for C&C to do so. This avoids there being uniformed cops (who would be the initial target) while also keeping the atmosphere academic and casual. Additionally, any attacker wouldn’t know who is armed, so any one school wouldn’t have a soft target appearance.

      In Columbine, apparently the police had to be repeatedly sued for information by the parents. At one point they numbered all the pages of evidence, THEN removed thousands of pages. And then handed that over with an obvious numerical gap in the middle, and thought no one would notice.
      They also made copies of a "training tape" the cops had made, which was really just a video they had taken of the library (after the bodies had been removed) and the audio had been replaced with Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You". After the families got access to the tape, they were charged $25 each by the cops to cover the cost of "making copies."

One kid in the room told an eyewitness account of how the cops asked the kids to yell for help if they needed it, and when one of the kids yelled for help, he went over to where she was hiding and killed her. I'm sure the cops were well aware that there were kinds inside, so they were willfully sitting on their thumbs.

    • @ag3nt_green
      @ag3nt_green 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ct5625 It's more than a lack of psych evals, particularly in this instance. Police do endure the worst humanity has to offer on a regular basis. It's difficult to be subjected to darkness daily and not have seep into your own being. There are a multitude of factors working in concert to create these issues but as humans we try to simplify it down to "Well, if we just did X this wouldn't happen." Reality is these dynamics are complex and involve a number of factors conspiring together. In this instance the police didn't know what to do, were under immense pressure to do something but were not equipped to process and work through the fear, stress and complexity of the situation. There's leadership failures, policy and procedure failures, an apparent lack of training for this type of situation, and a lack of professional behavior under stressful circumstances. It's a small town so I'm willing to bet they never thought it would happen here so any training or TTP's that were conducted and established were probably treated as a check the block exercise.
