    Very enjoyable. It is a shame to see how secure you have to make your Fixie (Fixy?) - 3 locks! Another thing I suddenly realised was how high you have to step up to access your boat - my stern was almost level with the tow path. Oh, and thanks for the shots of you getting in and out of the kayak, you make it look so easy.
    Best wishes, Mike

    Thank you for the video. You have a natural gift of narration and drawing in the viewers; and a great eye for filming and catching fantastic views.. Every time I think "Well this is the best video DB can produce", you always follow up with even better videos.

    That was brilliant Dan! Seeing the more 'domestic' side of your life on Tilly answers a lot of 'How do you manage living on a boat' type questions. It's interesting to know that folks are interested in that side in the first place. Big thumbs up!

    Hello Dan! We do not have these types of boats here in the USA, but I wish we did. I don't think we have a proper canal system. My friend lives in London and often posts pictures of these boats, so I thought I'd do a little search....and here I am! Just subscribed. Absolutely delightful videos and commentary -- you have the coolest accent!! And Cheers for knowing your birds! We lo e to kayak, and my favorite bird to see is the Loon. When we go up to the North Woods in the summer, we usually see a pair, as they mate for life. Little factoid -- only one pair of loons per lake. Anyway, really good videos!

      The US had canals, but not much of a system. It was not as elaborate, extensive or artificial as in the UK. There was a relatively greater reliance on natural waterways. The main US canal was the Erie Canal, tho there were a few canals in other areas.

    Great video,ever thought about growing your own salad in troughs/pots on the back or top of Tilly?Much cheaper than buying bags of salad=£1 for a pack of seeds,less to carry on the supply-run and fresh as you can get.

    composting toilets are slowly becoming popular with boaters, ive never seen one, but everyone that i know who owns one in their home or cabin, really like them. Do you know of any narrow boats that have them?

    have only just recently discovered your channel (from watching your video about your first fixie ride).
    good on you for living the life you want/love.
    i have lived near a canal my whole life (live in devizes wilts/kennet and avon canal on my doorstep,well a few hundred feet to reach the canal from my house).
    i wish i could try and do something similar,but have suffered with depression for a long time and that has stopped me doing what i used to love (i do love cycling). am hoping to buy a lovely classic steel road bike in the not too distant future (a bianchi tsx) cannot wait (will go great with my charge duster mtb ;-)
    anyhoo sorry for droning on,take it easy dan and good luck to you (and to everyone else also :-)

    Brilliant videos Dan, the whole family like to sit on the sofa and watch your videos on TV, they are so entertaining and we especially liked your first Boat Trip video following your highs and lows.
    Just a thought, you should really monetize your videos with a few adverts, it's easy to set up via a Google adsense account and it could bring in some extra revenue which all helps with the costs.
    We wish you well and look forward to seeing more of your journeys in the future.

    Dan. Thanks so much for yet again producing a very enjoyable video, the 23-1/2 minutes seemed to go by far too quickly. Best be on the lookout now, you're likely to get mobbed in the villages by the young ladies, especially when your shower scene goes viral. In a future video can you explain for the benefit of your overseas viewers the fantastic network of footpaths and "rights of way" that exist along with the canals and towpaths, without which your walking adventures would not be so easy to accomplish? By the way, you are the subject of a thread currently on CANALWORLD.com, fame at last Dan. All the best for now.

  • @billynomates746
    @billynomates746 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason your showerhead drops down like that is because the ratchet has gone in the holder that screws to the side of the boat, you can buy a replacement from B&Q for around £5-£10 , the front slides off (up or down push hard) and then theres a mounting plate behind it with 2 screws.

    Hi Dan,
    A nicely put together film, and like all your videos, truly inspirational. So much so, that I'm looking at retiring in a couple of years back to the old country (I live in Australia, but I'm originally from N.Yorks), and your lifestyle looks like a great way of getting by on as little cash as possible, and still have the time to pursue your hobbies and small pleasures.
    Just a couple of questions:
    How do you deal with officialdom? You know....with council tax, having no fixed abode etc? I suppose it's handy having your Mum close by, whose home you can use as a base. But how would a continuous cruiser deal with stuff like health and dental care, taxes, licences, insurance, mail delivery and other boring but necessary paperwork?
    Like yourself, I like the simple life, with as few frills as possible. As long as I've got my pushbike and a laptop, I'm a happy man.
    Cheers Dan, many thanks for the vids.
    Mike

    My new boats is 14ft long 5ft wide so everything is soooo cheap and I walk everywhere like you as it has now come normal.
    Do you think other things like kayaks better rather than just the main boat

    How many miles of canals do you have to explore/live/travel on?
    I'm sorry if you answered this in the video and I just didn't hear.

    • @TimeLimey
      @TimeLimey 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      2000 + miles I think, including rivers you can navigate, Dan may know if thats correct. Not sure if you can do it all in one go just yet, but the goverment/waterways are working on joining them all up.

    If you are a person on medication(say diabetic)how does it work in getting repeat prescriptions,especially if you 200mile away(as an example or does this stop me from dreaming of a life on the canals?

    • @Charwoman
      @Charwoman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Steve rawlings Nothing should keep you static! If you want to travel the UK (I can't speak of abroad), just tell your GP that you want to get around, if you are diabetic you can apply for a card with your health needs from the Diabetic Association, as well as any other info you need. You can go into any GP surgery or health centre to get your insulin top ups or whatever you need. Please talk to your current GP or a hospital specialist. No need to be afraid of travel.
