Hey everyone. This video was made as a request by one of you! It is not intended as a review or "which one is best". Simply my perspective of these knives. I forgot to mention that one is capable of being taken apart, but I would think that was obvious. If your thinking of purchasing one for yourself, a son, a daughter, a niece, a nephew, a wife, a husband, a friend, a relative. Get the BUCK!

Johnny, check out the CS Range Boss, as opposed to the Ranch Boss. Might be worth a follow up.

If it's not a comparison or "which one is best" you should change the title. Your title DEFINITELY implies a competion between the two knives

I've owned the Buck 110 for many years. I recently picked up the Cold Steel Ranch Boss II. The CS did not come with a sheath. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the CS. Both these knives are great in their own way.

I had a Buck 110 I purchased in the Navy in 1965 and it came up MIA around 1971 . I could flip it open one handed very easily .
I bought another 110 new in 1980 and still have it to this day . It does not flip open one handed . It’s very stiff in operation. And fits perfectly as it did the day I bought it .

The Cold Steel not having a half-stop is one of the greatest selling point for me. I find many CS knives are very European in matters of function over form. The lack of a half-stop only ads to that impression.

The upside on a belt sheath riding a bit high is that for us guys that have a little bit extra to work with we can tuck our shirts behind the flap to make the blade easier to access.

The CS Ranch Boss and the Sharade Uncle Henry are actually Folding Hunter patterns, based off the Case Folding Hunter from the 1920s or 1930s I think. Case still produces the Folding Hunter today, as do several other knife manufacturers. Dave Canterbury's favorite signature pattern. I think they're fascinating, especially the older Case made like our grandfathers would have carried.

does the sheath come with the
    Ranch Boss II ?
I have a regular Ranch Boss with the GFX plastic scales and new 4116 ss blade
but I know SK-5 is a better steel being a carbon steel.

Buck 110 for me. Even with all the overpriced "super duper" steel folders out there and "modern" designs, the 110 still holds up. Reason being it has a strong lock back and it's simple as you can get with just a spring rod inside. There are no moving parts inside like springs or screws. It is a one piece design with the bolsters and liners attached and the wood, G10, micarta, horn, bone, metal or whatever you want in the middle for aesthetics. I personally have gone back to sheath carrying a 3 dot 1980-81 Buck 110 with the thicker and heavier squared bolsters and better Bos treated 440C (the last year they used it before switching to 425M and then 420HC). You can still find the 3 dot 1980-81's all over the place and they are the masculine version of the 110, what the 110 should look like. They rounded bolstered 110's like in this video look feminine to me. I scored a bunch of these 3 dots in great condition for around $60 to give to my kids for camping and hiking when they get older. All the rest of my "super duper" steel knives with modern designs I collected over the years now sit in a drawer collecting dust (actually in a safe deposit box because they are discontinued and worth 5 times what I got them for). The 110 really is the only blade you'll ever need and can get sharp as a razor with minimal effort in the field. Also made in my home state of Idaho. Here's a great history of the 110 this guy put together and it is very informative.

I agree with all your points. I have hundreds of knives in the collection. I collect them and they collect dust. It's a symbiotic relationship. This is why I take my knives Into The Woods. and use them. Great comment!

The number on the back of the Gerber sheath is the model number for the knife that was inside it, a Model 97223, looks like a fairly cheap little pocket knife but a good Gerber from the era.

The Ranch Boss ll is a knife I would like too own now seeing the blade size with the Buck 110 , it make Buck look small and the lock is a plus also. I remember you mid video & nice job.

The cold steel ranch boss is just a traditional single blade folding hunter, just like that Schrade uncle Henry there.
It is a pattern that long predates the the 110, Remington Ka-Bar Case, NYK.CO, Cattaraugus, Camillus...ect you name it all made them.
Earlier on they were generally based on a large coke bottle frame.

I grew up in the country and we all had a buck 110 on our belts even at school. The 110 is a classic and as for me, I would have to go with the Buck. That said, the CS looks very nice and I do like that larger mean looking blade. Thanks for sharing brother, have a great Sunday.

My choice would be the Cold Steel Range Boss with the Tri-ad lock. I know that it is not one of the three in your video, but I am a Cold Steel fan, and believe the Tri-ad lock is one of, if not the most secure locks available on pocket knives today.
When I am potentially going to put a folding knife into hard use, my first pick would be a Cold Steel Tri-ad lock knife. Cold Steel rules, man !
All four of these knives are visually similar, but only one is truely hard use.
