  • Unboxing a new set of Owden tools
    In this video I unbox a brand new set of Owden leather tools. I give my first impressions on each of the tools and do simple tests on them. I will follow this video up in a few weeks with a review video of these tools after I have had a change to properly test them out.

    Congratulations for the quality of your videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge. It would be great if one day you made a video to learn how to sharpen all the tools. It would be of great help for those of us who started working with leather. It's easy to learn by watching your videos.

    I had an owden french edger before I got my palosanto. After I sharpened it, it worked well for me. Definitely a decent budget brand.

      That's a great upgrade to have! Palosanto use some really good steel.

    I have a creasers set from owden with bamboo shape handles and it's nice. Actually, I'm using only 2,5mm creaser in my work for now. It's not expensive and good quality tools.

      I am also really happy with these Owden tools. I think they are excellent value for money.

    Have a look at Kemovan Crafts on Etsy, China made too. I'm guessing they're made in the same factory cos they look similar.

    • @TeranAtelier

      They look to be at a similar price point. They look different enough but it is hard to say.

      I have a couple kemovan tools. They're not bad, especially if you throw together a board of stropping jigs and take about 10 minutes with some green then blue rouge. I recently upgraded to all palosanto tools, but I would definitely recommend kemovan or owden for a budget option. Quality is good for the price on both. Substantially better than Tandy or weaver baseline tools.

      I have 2 from Kemovan, but they are not the best. some of Kemovan tools is ok. they make themself probably and also sell other Chinese company's products. I think and what I see Palosanto tools are the best, what they made, including the french french edger

      @@bazlur-Vancouver Weird. How long ago did you buy from Kemovan? As of recent they have more expensive versions. I have Palosanto bevelers, french edgers and awls, and I have 2 Kemovan bevelers, creasers, an awl, a french edger, a v gouge and other odds and ends. Where the Palosanto tools are obviously better, the quality of my Kemovan tools are pretty good. I have all of the "new" versions from their branded items.

    What is the steel identifier for these tools?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a lower end brand with good finishing but less information on the steels used. If you check the links they will have a bit of information.

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I do not plan to for now to as there was not much interest in those tools. Is there anything you would like to know about them?

    • @genesishep
      @genesishep ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TeranAtelier Yes, I would like to know how they performed. Sadly many don't comment on videos and just hope to see the follow-up. It would be great to know if any of these tools performed badly or if they were worthwhile. A particular interest to me is the hammer and to know if you continue to use any of them. You'll likely see more people like the above commenter and I popping up as more and more individuals get into the craft and are searching for the best "decent" tools to start out with. I know that I don't want to start with the cheapest tools sold in many kits on Amazon however I also do not want to break the bank until I know this is a craft I'll continue to enjoy. Thanks

      These are middle tier tools. I find them a lot better than the entry level generic tools but they would not be as good as the expensive brands.

    Dont buy from Owden. Poor quality and you cannot return the product because they never answer your mail or provide you with a return address.
