  • Lithophanes are pretty interesting, but what about 3D printed lithophane business cards? This video runs through how to create a basic lithophane using free software, and then how to design an image in Photoshop as the basis of the business card.
    And yes I can't pronounce 'lithophane'.

    This video was awesome. I watched this video 1 time and successfully printed lithophane 1st try. Thank you.

    Change filament color for the raised name, address and phone number. That should not be interfering with the picture. But you want that part readable without the card being backlit.

    Been trying to do this in photoshop and blender. But this website is so easy.
    Thanks Micheal.

    wow! Thanks for showing, what filament material are you using? I am a beginner, love the Cocoon Touch video too, and glad you struck problems like I did, Curer sucks. Keep up the good reviews

      The white PLA filament I'm using is from www.x3d.com.au
      I like to support local suppliers whenever I can.

    Do you know if there is a way to make a Lithophane using onshape? I am currently teaching High School 3D Modeling and Design remotely and am only permitted to use Onshape and Tinkercad. About half my students are using Onshape and the other are using Tinkercad and I am trying to have similar projects that work effectively with both modeling options.

    Wouldn’t this be possible now with the newer Bambu X1 Carbon printers with various colors too?

    You should lay out some black ink on a flat surface and put the business card face down so the top layer gets coated. That would make it look so much better.

    Are there any OFFLINE lithophane generators? besides cura? Cura does well for me, but its restricted to flat lithophanes with no frame.

    Does it have to be Photoshop? is there any other software that I can use? Thanks

    None of the 3D-printed lithophane videos mentions the reason(s) why this has to be printed standing up and not lying down, are the high and low areas of the photo present on both sides, or is one side flat?

    • @TeachingTech
      @TeachingTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      One side is flat. The reason they print up is the printer is much better at the fine details in the xy plane. If it were laid down you would be limited by the layer height.

    Is the type of filament relevant to the results? I've used that same site and never gotten a lithophane to work.

      Had plenty of success with white PLA. Glow in the dark place, despite looking like white during daylight, it didn't work properly at all.

      FINALLY got it to work. Turns out it WAS the type of filament I was using. I originally tried using a white PLA and a wood fill PLA with no success. Just for giggles I tried using a red PLA that I had loaded from a previous job and WHAM! it worked. Anyways thanks for the video and keep up the good work.

    Could you do this on a resin printer and do a bunch at the same time?

    • @EricBuhrow
      @EricBuhrow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely make lithophanes on a resin printer, I have made them several times in the past. In fact, the process is much faster, because they're a bit quicker at going vertical than FDM printers (at least in my experience) when you're trying to get that detail.

    • @ItsAustinSea
      @ItsAustinSea ปีที่แล้ว

      you can do these flat in a resin printer since you dont have to worry about layer lines. takes 15-20 mins per card. if you do it vertically, it will take about 7-10 hours. I've found that on an anycubic mono 4k, I can make 15 vertically at once in about 9.5 hours. if I lay them flat i can do the same amount in 4 hours with the downside having to pull them off the printer each time one is done

      Other CNC software works for this but not as easy or powerful. I found it really slowed my computer too. You want to put in all of your settings and then import the image to help with that.

  • @ItsAustinSea
    @ItsAustinSea ปีที่แล้ว

    Do it in resin, prints in like 15 mins

    You know what, I don't hate the idea. But between 3d printed business cards and metal business, it seems like a lot of time and money for something that you're just giving away, with no guarantee of a sale.
