    I predominantly play blues, but for the last few months I’ve been studying the major pentatonic or folk scale. I love it because it goes with most forms of music, so now I can jam along with more styles such as pop and rock. It’s great fun :)

    Ed, really enjoy your content, and demeanor. This video hit home. New harmonica player (at 64 y/o). Love the blues, but am learning simple folk tunes such as Birmingham Jail and Oh, Susannah. Will be trying your suggestions. New subscriber BTW. Thanks.

    hi man is there a difference between a folk and a blues harmonica what type does a folk muscian use for instance bluegrass

    • @TheHarmonicaBarge
      @TheHarmonicaBarge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Different harmonicas can be used for all styles but some are more common than others.
      For example, lots of folk players use paddy richter tuned harps but generally a regular richter tuned harp can be used for both folk and blues.

    If youre going to talking about "folk" talk about European folk. Blues is American folk.

      Good point :)!
      depends how you define folk.
      Genre descriptions are clumsy at best and often originate from record labels wanting to sell music.
      on that basis I think it’s fair to say many wouldn’t consider Chicago blues and chess records to be folk music.
      Although they tried to market a lot of acoustic blues as ‘folk blues’ or ‘country blues’ .
      It all depends on who you’re trying to sell the music too :)

      Genres are weird that's why there's so many strange offshoots of hip-hop and rock, and metal. @@TheHarmonicaBarge
      What's the tune you played in the beginning?

      I found it.
      Yea would say American folk is a derivative of old blues, mainly because forms like Chicago blues is a style, but blues was originally not very structured in those "bar" form. But yea acoustic blues and folk is not different in a major way like with something like classic irish and British folk music
