Even if you're not a collegiate athlete you can get free gear! I give away a pair of running shoes every Tuesday. To enter simply follow me in Instagram: instagram.com/nicksymmonds
Is 7 minutes, 46 seconds good for a mile for a 13 year old? I decreased 3 minutes though from when I started in my mile run and I only started a month ago
I love this story! I think in sports, but also life as well, we get muddled up in all the stuff we want but don’t necessarily need. The important thing is that you have your NEEDS satisfied and then you can go as far as your drive takes you.
I'm a female freshman cross country runner. Your story of running has always inspired me because I wasn't a very tall runner when I started and, didn't have much speed when I started to. Today I'm on track to beat my states record for the 5k. One day I inspire to get into Oregon state and run for them and then become a professional runner! Your story is so inspiring and honestly I thank you, because you truly have inspired me! I hope one day I can inspire someone who runs just like you do! Thank you so much!!! Btw run gums great and works highly recommend!
My coach said basically the same thing to us. We were in the biggest division in Iowa but the poorest and least participation rate and didn’t have much genetics. Mind you this is still high school but gave me a better outlook. People underestimate motivation and the mental aspect of it all.
Our son went to Willamette from 1993-1997, and his roommate his freshman year was a cross country runner. I do not remember if the young man qualified for regionals or nationals. He was told he had to pay to travel, so he stayed home. I love the story about Kelly. My daughter worked for him at Oregon State.
In my experience, my school also doesn’t give out free gear. Every so often we’ll get 2 t-shirts (one long one short sleeve) per xc/track season (so 4 shirts per academic year), and graduating seniors get a special gift from the team. We get issued warm ups and uniforms but they have to be turned in at the end of the season. Shoes are also on our own too.
Well said, Nick. Well said! I went to a small NAIA (but powerful) school in the 1970s. Just was happy with the simple uniform and shoes/spikes they gave us. I was more appreciative of the the opportunity to compete against some of the best in the country and learned lessons that stick with me 40 years of running later.
I remember in college we got a pair of sweats, and singlet, shorts, backpack, and a coat for warm ups. Same set for 4 years, and we had to buy that stuff. We all had to bus 20-40 minutes off campus to get to our track. The ringers on our team kicked serious ass and it was always so great to watch, everytime.
I agree we really don't get a lot of gear, I had to purchase all my gear by myself... :( I wish our small cross country team ( Franklin Pierce University) would have a higher budget to get some more gear for my team. Also love your product Run gum I use it everyday and feel so privileged to be an ambassador for your brand everyday! :)
I love both of his channels so much, I'm almost glad he isn't one of those big huge youtubers, because we get to be apart of this experience and don't have to share it with others, he responds to comments, he reads his dms, and he gives stuff away and it's not like he's doing it because he had money that he can just give stuff away, he is actually trying to help some people out.
I ran for NAIA Seattle University (mid 90s) and got a couple t shirts, singlet and shorts and half off Brooks shoes. Warm ups were given back each year. We were so envious of the D1 kids.
I never got any free equipment except training shirts to represent my school lol all were borrowed ran for CSULA track team, granted i only really ran for about 1.5 years for my school due to dropping out of the sport to focus on my degree. I did gain a lot of knowledge on how to properly train which i use in my everyday training now :)
Nick you should change your links to the shoes in your description on the main channel most of the shoes are outdated and out of stock, and you should switch to running warehouse links too considering you have a partnership with them now
i work in a run speciality store and to me ppl are being too over concern with their gears. Special socks, watches, performance shoe. Especially runners coming in and said they want a shoe that can run fast. If you are fast the shoe will be fast too xD Sage Canaday came in 16th in the Boston marathon wearing clifton, a daily trainer. Screw all the gears and focus on your training!
I got a huge question. Im asking through here cause i aint got an Instagram account, sorry. So im overweight. 260lbs to be exact. Im starting to enjoy going on a run, more like waddle but yeah. I want to improve run time and distance ran. J can do a 5k easy..ish, 10k as well, painful but done. But im slow, best run time for 5k is 29 minutes and 10k 1hr and 4 minutes. Slow i know. How would you train to drop run time dramatically and increase distance as well? My goal is to be able to do marathons and ultras even. It just sucks being this fat man. Also ive been very inconsistant on my running. One week 20 plus miles the next 7 o 8 miles and its just been annoying. Thats probably my answer, build up weekly mileage and consistency.

I need shoes and gear
@@aliabdallah4183 it is decent. Keep working hard and your work will pay off. Running sub 7mins should be a good goal for you.
I pray we have a track season I’m going to try and break the state meet record in the 800m.
which state?
Good luck!
U gooooooooooo.
Walker Oklahoma
How’s it go
Let’s just pretend the only reason I’m slow is because of my shoes
I was slow once! Hard, consistent work will make you faster!!
@@NickSymmondsToo your freshman and sophomore year what was your cross country 3 mile time
@@NickSymmondsToo My guy your highschool 800m split in the mile is faster than my best 800m time

People who live in other countries: "Schools give stuff out???"
lmaooo literally, I live in France and I wish my school would give out even a sticker to athletes but thats not how it works hahah

Nick I love your channel it’s always uplifting, you’re so motivating. This episode, however, goes above and beyond. Favorite. Thx and well done.

Lol in the Uk we have to pay for kit unless u go to a private school
My man my school hasn’t had new uniforms in 30+ years. You get tons of stuff
Did you do this in one take? That story was awesome!! Love it!
I didn’t win but you simply giving away shows how much you appreciate your supporters, thanks nick we appreciate it.

This is so inpirational bc many ppl always want the best shoes n gears n yet dont perform. Its not about what u wear but how hard u train n run
He is so right the only thing you need for cross-country is the shoes and the fire. the fire for me was the team.you know teamwork.
Best motivational video in the World, it can be applied to anything and to any field....Thank you Nick!
