  • Max Chilton broke the 23-year-old Timed Shootout record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in 2022. The record had been held since 1999 by Nick Heidfeld and the McLaren MP4/13. Here you can see the difference between the F1 run and the McMurtry Speirling's incredible attack.

The bumps were everywhere and kept upsetting it, still the record wasn't broken for 2 decades. The McMurty with full downforce at standstill launched off like from a railgun, probably a 2g+ start, made most of its time at the first few corners, but I think the F1 car actually made some time back in the 2nd half.

Interesting comment by Heidfeld. It was mentioned that Heidfeld crossed the finish line at 160mph and the McMurtry was limited to 150mph and had 2000kilos? of downforce which is the key to this achievement. A few years ago watched Jim Hall's Chapparal with the wet track spray illustrating the fan effect so well. It used most of the cars footprint for downforce where the McMurtry uses a central disc and must have some interesting tech to work so well and be so robust.

Not surprising Heidfeld said that as on the video the F1 car is darting all over the place. Put some modern tyres on that and it will definitely be much faster. LOL you're supposed to buy and win in the McMurtry, not stand around watching with an ice cream. Max appeared to find it very exhilarating.

I want to see the McMurty to a demo run at the Silverstone GP now for comparison to current F1 machinery. It's an incredible car.

The British GP is on next weekend so maybe the Mcmurty and the McLaren MP4/13 can have a rematch at Silverstone

Would be great to see. McMurtry did its testing there with another gearbox for higher top speed. They are selling them as track cars, so will be interesting to see them in the future.
