I’m kinda glad that you laid out the reality of everything. I’ve been in private practice since 2016 and never accepted insurance. Unfortunately all my past clinical supervisors were old school psychoanalysts in their 70’s and were able to run a cash pay practice with fairly decent ease. Unfortunately I am a millennial and quite a few years younger than them, so the marketing struggle wasn’t very relatable.
My private practice was thriving pre pandemic, during the pandemic and even afterwards. however unfortunately ever since January of this year I have seen a huge downturn to my practice. I am still surviving and managing. But the amount of new client inquiries has been getting fewer and fewer. Unfortunately over the last couple of weeks I have been thinking of surrendering myself and start looking into insurance panels

How important is having a nice website in acquiring cash pay clients?
Very Very Very Important
Most people who are cash pay use their website as the referral source. In other words, they work on SEO , Google Ads, landing pages, etc all of which come back to your website. It is quite important for a solid strategy
