IIRC the infant mortality rate amongst Sarkaz is so high that they usually don't bother naming their kids, so they eventually formed a tradition around just naming yourself after the first Sarkaz you kill Like remember when Hoederer brought up a Sarkaz mom he knew that gifted her daughter a coffin for her 6th birthday, that's just messed up my guy
In W's case the tradition that got her her name was weapon looting Sarkaz merc tradition dictates that if you pick up a dead merc's weapon (commonly their dagger), you have to take on their duties & responsibilities. W herself had several names before W
W did reveal her real name in global, that is she has none, the war torn lands of Kazdel means most children barely make it,let alone know who their parents are,the only name she ever had was the inherited W,and as we know from Theresas' suggestion, she eventually changed it to the DPS monster that is Wiš'adel. What should be mentioned is Fang, her name is actually taken from her Pinyin pronounced Chinese name of "fēn",meaning "fragrance",which means we both have an Operator with a neat but odd name(I know several morons who thought she didn't deserve her cool name)and we're missing out on a lot of sniffing jokes from fan artists.
Arknights biggest Sin is that they introduces ACE the most badass operator with a badass name that fought off the main villain with only one hand!! And then they killed him off in the prologue.
What makes it funnier lore-wise operators themselves pick their name, so whatever you want to say it was their choice. And for example Sui siblings do not care and just use their own name as their codename, so your own name was always an option.

For non-english speaker any name sounds cool. I mean I saw couple of MARVEL's animated shows with unintentionally ruined translation - every name was translated precisely. Even if I know meaning of this word it still can be claimed as decent name. I mean for me "Mudrock" has same energy as "John" or "Mike" - it just a fancy foreign name.
RockRock = it is just the repeated first half of her surname, Rockwell Mudrock = maybe because of her geo based arts? W = the codename of first Sankta she killed. Kazdel has high mortality for infants due to its harsh condition that many Sarkaz didn't named by their parents/guardians, so they will take their first victim's codename for their name. Canonically, some operators (such as Degenbrecher) find codenames stupid and refuse to use them. It's part of their character. Others go for nicknames they already have, such as RockRock being the first syllables of her first and last names. A lot go for something that means something to them specifically, such as Eyjafjalla naming herself after a volcano (which is fitting for a vulcanologist). The inconsistencies in their nicknames is actually a very organic method that makes the individual characters more believable. Each operator has their own reason for their choice in codename, which in itself is another layer of their character. The writers giving characters nicknames solely to sound "cool" or fit a meta theme would make them feel more superficial, and somewhat less interesting.
