Hacking sim racing… it’s probably one of the saddest things you can do on this planet, other than wrapping your supercar in chrome. But unfortunately, cheating is rife. Everyone is at it, from esport professionals, to losers in open lobbies. A staggering 37% of gamers admitted to cheating at least once - and it’s almost impossible to detect if you don’t know what you’re looking for… Statistics say you’ve probably raced with someone using cheats recently, but have you been able to tell the difference between alien and hacker?

once downloaded single player only cheats for ac, I can’t tell you how funny it was chasing ai in a tractor whilst having more grip than a formula one car.

Sadly I've seen people using cheats on touge servers, both TL1 Akina and Gunsai server... in both cases they were Russian. For the Gunsai one I actually thought they were using a tuned supra when it was stock, it was super obvious, and the one on Akina couldn't even make it to the bottom of the mountain 😂 It does make me wonder if some good drivers are just using a couple of percent of extra grip and power to beat me though, I'm only 5-15 seconds off the records depending on the car, and the closer I get the harder it is to find time to shave off
My favorite is watching the Akina RX7 laptimes drop a few seconds every week. The Kaido servers have gotten overrun.
Just about every server that keeps high score has this issue. I'd even be willing to bet they use multiple accounts on the same servers to make it look like there's a legit competition.
I've witness hacks IRL while chasing a tuned RX7 on the Big PP Gunsai server in a spirit R. I was catching up to him on the course and could see how poor his lines were, when he suddenly pulled away out of nowhere and set a lap 9 seconds faster than anybody else in that car lol.
@@sabotagetyler yeah Big PP Gunsai is where I saw that crazy Supra, it was hitting 180 km/h into the first turn, and was pulling away from everyone else even though it barely went over 4500 RPM. I'm used to chasing stock Supras on TL1 Akina so I know it's not possible without cheats...
thicc daddy cool has most of the records on TL1 and I'm pretty sure he isn't a cheater but an alien he is.
shouldn't these kinds of stat altering cheats be detectable server side? like if you know the maximum grip a car should have shouldn't you be able to tell if a car is exceeding that by running some kind of script on the server or something?
Yes there are a few ways you can add anti cheat to a server. I held off making this video until I confirmed that you could lol
Anticheat is absolutely possible, but not cheap. It needs to constantly monitor stuff to reliably detect a hacker which may be a price the server owner wouldn't want to pay. Plus in some cases you'll get hard coded anticheat that causes a bunch of false positives when an update happens and a programmer makes a mistake.
Yes and it's not "put out and let it work". A lot of competitive shooter games for example constantly updating their anti cheat so if a cheat software manage to bypass, the next update will hopefully prevent it.

Most games do. EA's F1 seems to be the exception with them blatantly doing nothing.
GT7 has some form of anti-cheat, it mostly relies on being a console exclusive though.
Iracing has anti-cheat built in, it's part of the reason it can take so long to load into sessions. Not only is the software checking, each user can report suspicious behavior.

I’d also be down for everybody having to somehow wear full buddy electro shock suits when gaming and when someone gets caught cheating they get lit up with an excruciating level of voltage but that’s just me👀🤣

I was talking to a good friend of mine, who is also a dev and he was telling me about people who are using Arduino boxes to create TC and ABS - linked between their pedals and USB input, so it filters in real time, I mean at that level what more can we do to battle this scum, even I was surprised !

the arduino leonardo pretty much lets you create you own joystick or controller, i used one to modify my brake pedal to use a load cell so the brake reacts to pressure instead of pedal travel.
i also mounted vibration motors to the throttle and brake pedal... the one on the throttle vibrates when the wheels spin and the brake vibrates when the wheels lock up. it is a great tool to make your setup more realistic and immersive at a low cost for those diy capable.
i never thought about it before, but i do not think it would take all that much effort and skill to take the signal going to these motors when the wheels spin or lock up, and instead use it for "logic" to make the arduino automatically adjust the throttle and brake input for optimal traction...
now the driver can just stomp on the pedals and never loose traction, wouldnt even need a pedal, on/off buttons would work just as good.
im guessing something like this is what he is talking about...
and even if this could be detected by the game, as it is all in the input of the controller, technically you could probably not even call it cheating and ban someone as it might be an issue legally since the game itself is not modified at all.
I'll be honest, I could see the appeal of having the option to have a faster car or slower car online. But in very specific scenarios. Like on SRP or BeamMP it's nice to be able to up or turn down boost/grip by changing your setup to balance skill in a public lobby. But unfortunately it only works via an honor system, and usually leads to power escalation. There's something special to me about the challenge of chasing down a less skilled driver on slicks with sport tires. With that said, eff cheaters. If it's a competition everyone deserves equal footing. They belong in the trash.
Hacking in racing games is so cursed. The avantage you'd get wont feel good, the good feeling of racing is being faster / better than someone thats decent, and then realize you're slow in certain lobbies and then improve to achieve the speed necesary to AT LEAST keep up with faster drivers.
Don't worry, the techniques speak for themselves. No need for imposter syndrome :)
Btw, can you perhaps do a comparison between an H shifter and sequential? i'm wondering how much time do you actually lose. You could even compare time difference skipping gears downshifting and perhaps powershifting.
I have seen people downshift without rev matching except the last one, and others do every single one. I'm guessing not much of a difference except making the car more stable (alas no blocking the wheels in the fwd)

i remember in F1 21, fighting for P4 and eventually podium. everything is disabled even the setups, we have to run with default. then theres this guy that has massive grip at late game. i was so mad. another day a rage hacker joined in and threw us all below the map and finish the race by himself.

Please refrain from calling cheaters "hackers".. They don't write a line of code themselves, they merely pay for something to cheat. If you call them "hackers" they might even like that, as it is some kind of twisted compliment to them.. Cheaters is what they are, nothing more, nothing less. regardless of game/sim/genre.

Another telltale sign from someone who's had experience with people modifying the handling config files... Lag, for instance, a car going around a corner at lightning speeds going perfectly straight but for you they're jumping around and their car is skittish in the game but they appear to be perfectly fine, or if their tires are lighting up like it's an aussie burnout comp but they're completely composed and taking corners normally, this can happen in more arcadey games like GTAV (fiveM to be specific) and others such, it might even happen in AC too but I haven't messed around with handling configs enough in AC to be able to tell.
if you spot excessive tire smoke on high speed straightaways thats also a dead giveaway, also doing math with distance over time relative to u and u can spot one pre easily
My favorite thing is when in ACC i race at Monza, get pretty much a perfect exit out of Ascari, but the guy in front, who barely managed to keep the car on the track jumping all over the place, starts pulling away from my Audi, which is already one of the cars with the highest top speeds in the game, while i am completely in his slipstream and my car is setup for absolutely minimum downforce, but still can't catch him. 720S-es and M4s doing over 295km/h.
People did already get the memo on the very last bit... Unfortunately they haven't figured out they're losing not because of cheats, but their own massive skill issue

The kind of cheating I did didnt harm anyone because I swapped out GT cars for drift cars, so I was no competition to the other players and even had people following and watching me lol

I am currently involved in league racing, and I don't want to be that guy so I want someone else's opinion. I can drive relatively fast on a wheel with no assists and consistent, and in a qualifying session I started roughly 2 seconds ahead of this guy. By the end of the session he was pretty much a second quicker than me and I had improved my time by a fair bit. They were on controller with assists but they were braking nearly 40 meters later than me for each corner. Even with ABS and instant 100% brake power that seems a bit much. IDK so would like someone else's opinion, I just thought it was a bit sus.
Open setup? You can gain alot with setup changes.
First tell-tale of a bad driver compensating with cheats is consistency. If he can't get similiar laps consistently, he cheating.

As you said, you know when a car is on its limit and someone will be faster than you, but not 3 seconds a lap. And going through corners with impossible speeds. We had a guy using hacks in GT7 open lobbies. He could type in chat while leading the race
I remember downloading an F1 cheat engine cheat for singleplayer. Many beers en gree staff and I had the night of my life, turning AI grip to zero in the most random moments.
Ram a hacker off the road, then get kicked from the lobby!
Instead of downloading hacks, why don't people 'mod' a server for customizable options- creating a 'hacks' league where everyone gets the same settings but still enhanced. could be fun
they kinda do, in games that allows user created mods and race/road tracks like assetto corsa, anyone can create their own vehicles and roads or customize the power/setups/settings of any existent car, then make it available for download to race them on a server together...
the modding community has done spectacular things with assetto corsa creating more content than the developers ever could manage!
there are even modded servers with real life roads and ai traffic that you can race other players through, it is pretty damn amazing!

A simulation on hooks is as useful as a survival game without survival. Why don't these people just play NFS if realistic physics bothers you so much? There's nothing wrong with it if you prefer Acarde physics.
So hear me out, cheating during races is a big no no...
But cheating on free roam, toursten farten ect is one of the things that made me laugh the hardest on ac and I made one of my best sim racing friends this way...
Or for instance during a shutoko stream event I pulled with a 1500hp r34 and the streamer was completely shocked but was laughing... and its still one of my favorite clips I have xd...
Note that I never did toxic cheating, and it was quite obvious, like an ae86 going faster than a 787b and doing wheelies...
So never was to gain advantage but to make peoples say wtf was that xd😂

I've fought racing hackers om need for speed world and mind you I was using a keyboard and still beating them without cheats the only hack I used in that game was for money
I mostly drift in assetto, 2000+ hours.. no one can hack there, its either learn how or fail
Thing is there is a lot of "cheater physics" cars that basically help hold the drift for you.

If you want to know something interesting, Dota 2's recent ban wave, banned the equivalent of about a quarter of the active daily players. In other words, if people think that cheating in video games is not rampant, I have a bridge to sell you. Good on valve for letting these idiots stack up their offenses and outright banning them. I'm not surprised though, I've run into many players using obvious map hacks, ie. I was not visible on the map for 3+ minutes and they somehow know exactly where I am even though I've been moving around on the map in the dark, no wards etc. And by "know exactly where I am" I don't mean they stumbled into me, they acted as if I had passed a ward, came there to kill me which is exactly what they did. There was no "surprise" or shock, they walked straight at me, attacked me and murdered my ass so yea, I know people are cheating in video games already and it's not even subtle at times. Plenty of top level gamers cheat too, how many of them have already been caught?
i can see exploiting in roblox or minecraft be fun but in sim races its just a crime

The conclusion that over a 1:40-2 minute lap you can’t make up 2-3s on a super fast driver is completely bunk. Even on a super short track it’s so easy to give up 0.5s on someone who’s 0.75s faster than you.
Perhaps I worded it poorly, but to me it's easy to tell if they gained that time fairly, especially when they pass you and you finally get a look at how they're driving. 3 seconds on a 2 minute lap, when you're already within seconds of what is possible is kinda sus when they pull that pace out of their ass.
The guy in the video was setting 1:29s then suddenly gained 3 seconds in (less than) a single lap, and started setting 1:26s. Then when he passed he was taking the wrong lines and constantly locking up. To me, that sets alarm bells ringing.
I'm not saying this is impossible, I've definitely had this happen to be with actual aliens. But when you combine all the other telltale signs of hacking, it's pretty obvious they are.
@@TSRB I would be very cautious about encouraging calling out someone who was able to bank a super fast lap on a casual title like AC.
Firstly, it is not difficult to log onto a public server and seeing drivers easily doing laps 1-2s faster on every track than people with a decent bit of sim experience but who haven't min-maxed their car setups. Specifically with MX5 Cup where the fastest setup is max toe out and max camber, but min tire pressure.
Secondly, if the community were interested in calling out "cheating", they would be calling out the rampant over-rev downshifting that happens on all the servers where car damage is not enabled.
I don't race in public lobbies, this was in my very own racing league where it's painfully obvious who's legit and who isn't. And yes, it was confirmed that the guy in question was cheating. I held off on making the video until I was sure he was, and there were actual anti cheat measures you could put onto a server. There's not much you can do in the way of reporting in public lobbies anyway - but even if there is, server owners will easily be able to tell if they are or not. It's not like someone's going to get banned if they're not cheating.
I'm not encouraging calling fast drivers cheaters, I've told people how to spot actual cheats which is incredibly important to combat the problem. Imagine if nobody knew what wallhacks looked like in FPS games, nobody would be getting reported, and nobody would face consequences for using them. And I even put a disclaimer saying don't accuse someone of hacking unless they're 1000% sure, and that it could just be a massive skill issue.
Sure, some people might start calling everyone hackers - but that's better than "nobody" being able to tell who's hacking and who isn't.

in public asseto servers it completely kills the point, noone even cares if you set the fastest lap, literally nobody is paying attention. its like the weirdest fragile ego shield ive ever seen, it kind of makes sense in a competitive ranked game because dumb dumbs want to appear better then they truly are but open lobbies.. lmao neck is all i have to say to that

highly offensive to those that took years of practice and skill to get where they are. What makes a win or even podium position feel like an awesome feat if you just cheat your way through. I guess people are out there just to fake it to make it.. But reality is they arent impressing anyone especially not themselves. The glory comes from knowing how much you dedicate to any sport and seeing the results of that dedication.
