SURPRISE! SceneScreen has uploaded one amazing video where our favourite characters of Downton Abbey are trying to guess 1920's Slang Terms 😱Let us know what you think about it! 🥰We've had lots of fun watching it: bit.ly/34F8faE
I think she realized Lavinia loved Matthew just as much as she did and was stronger than everyone gave her credit for, even Matthew, and Mary respected her for that.
Melody Maker the actor of matthew crawley got better acting opportunities so he didn’t have time to do downton abbey. i’m sure that the writers didn’t want to kill him off but there were just too many scheduling conflicts for him.
Charlyn Lapak Yes, it was the actor’s choice unfortunately. Frustrating as a viewer. It’s like, the series was going to be limited anyway, what’s another season or two? Seems like going through a lot of trouble to grow that relationship for nothing in the end.
There were three scenes that sealed it for me: Mary giving Matthew her lucky charm at the station; Mary on her KNEES praying not for a reconciliation between them, but just praying for Matthew’s safety at war; and when Mary gets cold and drops her cup when Matthew gets injured. They were the best relationship on the show when it came to depth of feeling, at least from what we were shown. They made each other better ❤️
The moment for me is when he walks in from being thought missing while she was singing and she stops singing and is doing everything she can do not to run into his arms.
Two more scenes to add to the Matthew-Mary saga: When he and William are reported missing and she's at Christmas party and starts singing "If You Were the Only Girl in the World" and she stops cold when she sees both Matthew & William walk in.....and then he continues singing the bridge of the song, as sweetly as his character. Instant kleenex! And of course, THE best scene of entire six seasons: where he puts on the phonorgraph and is playing "Look for the Silver Lining" -- from a flop called "Zip! Goes a Million" or something....and he holds his arms out to dance, and she softly says, "We were a show that flopped...." And when he sighs and desperately whispers in her ear, "Oh, Mary, I'm so.....I'm so sorry." And she said "Don't be -- it wasn't anyone's fault. If it was, it was probably mine."......could go on and on. But right then, the music dramatically changes to Matthew's theme -- that gorgeous, achingly sad theme only used for Matthew/Mary, and ends with a prolonged kiss that is one for the ages -- before Lavinia interrupts them coming down the stairs....Season 2, Episode 8 -- THE very best scene -- as romantic as it gets -- cinematography, music, and Dan Stevens. It doesn't get any better than this.
It's crazy how emotionally invested you can get for a fictional couple. Downton Abbey was and will always be important to me. I will never get over how beautiful and perfect these two were together.
Lady Mary has grace and class in this moment. It was an extremely awkward situation for her, seeing Matthew with another woman, and rather than storm off in a jealous rage or be rude, she smiled and treated Lavinia with respect and kindness.
There's just something missing on the show without Matthew and his romance with Mary. They were the absolute best, gained instant OTP status and they just make me so damn emotional all the time. I can hardly watch any video of them without crying. I will always love them ❤️
Their chemistry was palpable. And that's very rare. It's why his loss was one of the most heartbreaking scenes in any TV series or movie. It will live in infamy, truly.
AGREE 100%. The last 3 seasons were entertaining to be sure, but never the same with Dan Stevens. What a powerful character he was to have had such an incredible effect on this show.
I loved Matthew and Mary and their story and the reason is that it's so closely closely resembles my 37-year relationship with the second wife who is now gone
Since i started to watch that show few of my friends said that story between Mary and Matthew is probaly the one the best love story played by two actores on movie screen. Chemistry, great act of playing, all story with ups and Downa etc. Well, absolutely agree. Great job by Michelle and Dan.
The snowy proposal scene...I laughed through tears with that one. There have been so many of those moments with Downton Abbey. It will always be my 'happy place'.
So glad Julian finally saw fit to unite this couple. During the first episode, it was obvious Mary and Matthew were so right for each other. The show never recovered after his death, nor after Sybil’s death, either… ❤️🎄❤️
@@bella.m266 I've never "loathed" anyone, never mind a fictional character. It is concerning, that some of your brain functions have been used to do so.
I felt sorry for her indeed! I have no idea how anyone saw Lavinia as a pity cause or a loathed person? She actually was so pure and gentle! She loved Matthew and all she could do is follow her heart. Her fault is that she truly loved him? That’s sad that some people are so judgmental of her and not Mary; the person who actually acted on her feelings knowing that other person will be hurt by it, knowing that Matthew is actually engaged. Matthew isn’t an angel too, because he actually led her forward knowing he cannot love her the way she loved him. The irony is that her money saved Downton !
Dan Stevens is the epitome of what a romantic lead should be -- he's gorgeous, has the most eloquent speaking voice, and is a great actor. All the qualities and then some...please someone, this man needs to do a remake of one of the great love stories of all time, "Brief Encounter."

During the filming of Downton Abbey, he finished two films -- "Vamps" a campy fun comedy, and "Summer in February", another period piece that was written by one of his teachers in college. "A Walk Among the Tombstones" was a dark thriller that he made when he first moved to NYC in 2012 after Downton Abbey. He co-starred with Liam Neeson. He was on Broadway in "The Heiress" with Jessica Chastain and David Straithorn in 2012, then came his real big breakout lead in "The Guest" (2013), a tongue-in-cheek thriller where he lost about 45 lbs for the character who is a very buff soldier returning from Afghanistan with a dark secret. Dan was never in better shape. After this, he kept all the weight off and is a totally different Dan Stevens than Downton Abbey days. He looks divine either way, but personally, I prefer his "softer" look from DA -- so appealing. I've also seen "Night at the Museum" -- where he showed off his comedic chops as Sir Lancelot opposite Ben Stiller and Robin Williams; "The Man Who Invented Christmas" (2016); "The Ticket" (2017); "Beauty & the Beast" (2017) -- his singing was a lovely surprise! Also, the FX TV series "Legion (2017-2019); "Apostle" (2019), a very dark thriller which was just a difficult movie to watch because of all the violence; and he was at his hilarious best in 2020's "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" -- and he's so phenomenal, he deserves a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical.
I thought Matthew was so handsome and smart and witty. He was perfect for Mary. And, yes, they brought out the best in each other. Like the rest of the world I was devastated and mad that Matthew died. Wish he could have had one more season with Mary and George. But, from a TV drama point of view, I agree with Dan Stevens’ assessment of his character. There was no place for the character of Matthew to go, that is, no way to develop unless he and Mary had some huge problems pop up. So knowing that helped. But Matthew will always be Mary’s great love in my mind, even though she loves Henry, too. And, it is a story after all. But we do love our Downton Abbey, and I’m sure lots of us cried when it was over..
GoGreen1977...I agree. It would have been a pleasure simply watching Matthew and Mary grow old together at Downton. The fans would have remained steadfast.
I will always be sad that Matthew died, but in the end, he accomplished what Downton needed: an heir and sustainability. It is true the series was not the same without him, but such is life: we can never always have everything.
@@tnielsenkimble6665 if you really watch every episode every scene you would like Mary. It's true that she's not perfect, she has many problems, but you also need to understand she carries more reponsibility than you could imagine. She's the eldest and there's no room for her to be wayward like Edith and Cybil. In fact, this series starts to lose its original taste starting season 4, people who actually understand her and like her are dead one by one, William, Cybil, Mathew...it's actually very cruel for her. You need to see these things so that your opinion of her is not biased.
There are certain shows where the deaths of characters stay with you forever, the show never the same afterwards. The tragedy and heartache stays with you like it was a real personal loss. Matthew is one such person.
I knew they were meant for each other the moment Matthew's eyes landed on her for the very first time. The way he looked at her gave it away. I guess he really is a good actor.
I would recommend first 3 seasons of Downtown Abbey for anyone who like heartwarming/romantic storylines. What a masterpiece!!!! Their facial expressions when they both see expressed their love for both. Wow Can't get off my mind from that. One of the best romantic fictional couples I have ever seen♥️
WHAT an actor Dan Stevens is (3 seconds). Those sideways looks ... no dialogue but so powerful, creating huge chemistry between these two that couldn't be replaced
When I finally watched this show, that's exactly what I did. Right at that moment, I turned off the show and said "ah, a happy ending" and quit watching. 🤣
I love the theme that is used for Matthew and Mary. Just like I love every theme used in the show... So beautiful and calm. I think if there was anybody who believed in Matthew and Lavinia's relationship was Mary. She loved him but she also accepted the fact that he loved Lavinia now. And you can see that she is the one who defends those two whenever someone says anything about Matthew and Lavinia. But I still think she should've agreed to marry him already, even if Cora was pregnant. I hate Rosamund for that.
Agreed. Any of Mary's love interests after Matthew just didn't quite cut it. I know it would never happen but I kind of wanted Mary and Bronson to get together..
The music cements the love... no matter if Matthew moved forward. Mary's kindness toward his fiance was impressive. No conniving to get Matthew back. Love returns to those that find hope. Great scene at the train station. Memorized scenes.... great show. Great writing. Beautiful acting, costumes, scenery. Hated to see this series end...
Now that is a great idea and maybe it would satisfy all the cry babies! I mean,I'm sorry, yes,I adored Mary and Matthew together, and I watch our DVD set of the show over and over again regularly. But one reason for me that Downtown Abbey is so great is the attempt at being very real with people's lives and realistically portraying their stories-and beloved spouses have been getting killed in car accidents every day for over a hundred years, sadly. I'm glad for Dan Stevens that he stuck to what he wanted to do for himself, his family, and his career. Many successful actors would not be so brave to get out of typecasting so early on. Many have been miserable in their careers,to please their audiences, frankly. I didn't mean to write a book, sorry! But, yes, a modern love story, maybe a comedy, with these 2 would be awesome!!
@@kat5781 It wasn't about realism, it was about Dan leaving & Julian being out of options. The way Matthew died was actually illogical in a way that it was mentioned in 10 ridiculous TV deaths on a TH-cam video (ofc I don't know the exact title, I just put these words together to let you know the whole concept), & rightfully so. Compared to a scene like Daisy's ex (don't remember his name) or Sybil, those were tearjerkers, made me wayyyyy sadder than Matthew's death scene so maybe that's a disadvantage, but they made so much sense. Matthew's death on the other hand, was clearly a decision made in the 11th hour. It was better keeping him paralyzed & maybe kill or transfer & so not making these 2 a couple to avoid more broken hearts & would be much more reasonable. Not saying car accidents are not common, they are, but not in that way.... I love Julian sm & try follow everything he's created after Downton Abbey, but these are facts.
“We can never be happy. Don’t you see?” - Matthew said these words to Mary while they were standing beside Lavinia’s grave. And this is actually so sad that then he dies when they’re finally supposed to have happily ever after. I’m disheartened to watch them grieving. Sometimes I want to think that for me Downton Abbey ended with season 3.
Season 4 was mostly awful by comparison to the previous three. The ridiculous Marigold storyline was very off-putting and other things were also out of whack. I think Julian Fellowes "lost his footing" when Dan Stevens left. But then, the following seasons everyone was back on their game and I loved how the final episode wrapped up with even the feuding sisters reconciled.
Season two - the most angst, the most vulnerable and likable Mary. But the biggest payoff in the final 5 minutes. I can never get enough of that proposal in the snow. So so beautiful!!!
I'm 51 and have always been single. At this point, I don't think I'll ever have the opportunity to use that line. Makes me sad and certainly incomplete. Hopefully, you will not suffer my fate.
@@jehannethompson1432 evidently, many feel as you do. I was disappointed as well. However actors can't predict the future and with a new family he must have hedged his bets and opted out at the end of his contract, and committed to others. Therefore he couldn't go back. Too bad.
@@leewhite-graham753 Yeah. For me Dan Stevens has become very weird if that’s how I can describe him since he’s gone to Hollywood. It’s actually scary. Like I’m shook lol. I wish we could have Matthew back. But I’m glad he is successful though because that’s all that matters.
@@jehannethompson1432 It's interesting you say that. Hollywood has an intensely dark side to it, which is now very evident to those of us researching things after Coronavirus mania swept everyone, and people tend to give up some of their soul to succeed there. Satanic worship is the order of the day over there, for real. I hope that's not the case for this actor. I suppose we just have to accept life as it is unfolding. I've not been a huge fan of Downtown Abbey, as I just didn't like most of the characters and storylines. I prefer Jane Austen sort of films or North and South, so I'm just watching this as I needed something a bit different :)
To love someone so deeply that their happiness is more important than your own is a bittersweet experience. I've told my kids I'm not having a funeral but a farewell party with music n laughs n bad jokes about my passing. Maybe it's just me but there's always been a laugh or two at funerals with my late loves ones n coincidences that are too precise to not not be a message from beyond the grave.
These beautiful, complex characters & the wonderfully talented actors who played them invoke tears every time---even within these short clips. Perfection!!
A bit harsh from Julian Fellowes. He was once an actor too. I believe Dan and Jessica made the right career decision to move on after 3 series. And of course we get to see Dan in more diverse roles. I love him as Alexander Lemtov.
It's actually the Matthew theme -- it is always in the background music when he's on with scenes w/Mary in the first 3 seasons. Alan Lunn saved his most gorgeous and achingly sad music for Matthew. Dan Stevens is a great actor and that's the reason his absence was felt more than anyone else in Downton Abbey.
That moment when Mary saw Mathew with Lavinia and tried a smile had me sobbing really. I feel so sorry for Mary on this scene. I watched DA for like a hundred time but I still can't get over this particular scene. My heart's in pieces. 😥😥😥😥😥
I didn't like Matthew in the beginning, but his character was skillfully developed into a noble and honourable one. Mary is a flawed personality, and her family is very aware of it. Programs like this and Selfridges make me nostalgic and reminds me of the times when we were growing up - when we were dressed in our best outfits for a day trip to Cape Town, on a safe and clean train, with photographers to catch the occasion. A somehow more innocent, simple and less stressful way of life, where even though my mom was a single mom with 3 kids, you got by somehow or other, neighbours pitched in, you could trust a person's word, they would arrive when they said they would and do what they said. Going back to the series, I could watch it over and over just for the clothes!
Mary can be such an unkind character at times but I really respect her for having unbiased judgements towards Lavinia. I love how she'd given sweet Lavinia the benefit of the doubt instead of teaming up with rosamund and violet with their lack of judgement. Not only did it meant that she'd matured but also shows how she respects Matthew. Because even if there was something going on between them, she wouldn't stoop down that low to bully a sweet, caring girl. I love Lady Mary Crawley!
Such serene and puritanical love is not even imaginable today. It's obviously a fairy tale every couple today would at least cherish. The triad of compassion, trust and emotional bond is just beyond description.
When Lavinia saw the kiss and when Matthew tells Mary....heartbreaking...impeccable acting. I cried the entire episode and how we all hated Sir Richard !!!
These two are extremely good actors. Even when Mary was unlikeable at times, she did an excellent job. I really loved seeing what she would wear later as a "Bright Young Thing". She had a way of delivering her lines that were engrossing and addictive, wish I could deliver a comeback like that. Dan Stevens is an excellent actor. Their scenes together were fascinating. Two casting laments for me are Cora, Lord Grantham's wife, and Bates the valet.
Matthew's tragic accidental death was of course absolutely brutal... but it was handled masterfully by an excellent script, beautifully acted, and accompanied by an extraordinary musical score. It was more than heartbreaking, but very well done.
Just finished Season 3. Can't able to digest what had happened to Matthew. Mary and him are one of the best couples. What an amazing pair! One of the few series where I felt true love ! Just when the baby was born I hoped for more episodes of love affection from the pair. But the next scene was heartbreaking💔 Going to take a break before watching next season. Can't able to see anybody other than Matthew with Mary
One thing I do love about the series is that they don't over paint the make-up on the women. Even the less than stellar faces are treated in a good fashion.
Have you really thought that through? To me, the screen-writers covered all the bases for Mary, Matthew AND Lavinia. To show proper respect to the character of Lavinia, she both knew and accepted the situation as it truly was; she wasn't afraid to look a thing 'head-on'. Therefore, I refuse to diminish the love she both showed and meant toward Matthew and evenMary. Why should anyone, then, insist on seeing Lavinia as being 'screwed over' if 'she, herself,' didn't???
@@benyamina8243 And this is ascribed as a 'fault' of Matthew's? There is no negative in what you've pointed out as far as Matthew goes. He didn't kill Lavinia and he tried to refuse this fortune 'because' it came at such a high cost to him and to everyone who knew and loved Lavinia.
Самый прекрасный, душевный фильм...отношения в семье, с прислугой очень тактичные, понимающие, без истерик....Не могу остановить внимание на просмотре других ппосле этого шедевра...
One of the most memorable, spectacular, iconic fictional couples ever to grace the screen. Just to think of them -- one is almost convinced that they are "real." 😢
It is just those few seconds at the beginning, 0:06-0:10, where they see each other and it's as if Mary totally re regrets those decisions she made three years prior. But it is so delicately and emotionally portrayed.
Matthew and Mary are one the sweetest pairs. They supported each other and no matter what they always cared for each other. Oh I just wish Matthew never died and they stayed together forever. I still remember the line which Mary says to Gillingham-"You said I fill your mind but Matthew fills mine". And no matter what no other person would be as good as Matthew ❤️
I love how Mary’s character grew as she fell in love with Matthew. At the beginning she was young, flirty, and a little snobby, selfish. But then when the war came and Matthew was hurt and she was even telling Lavinia to keep trying with Matthew even when he didn’t want to marry her. I love her character ♥️
I just finished season 3. I knew something was going wrong when the last sequence of the last episode of season 3 was happening. My heart felt heavy but I didn't cry. Then the same day, I was just brushing my teeth when the thought of Matthew's death came to me. I started tearing up. I can't imagine losing someone you love as much as Mary loved Matthew. I probably couldn't take if it were me. I started watching the first episode of the next season but stopped midway. I feel like I won't continue watching it.

I think the writers could've come up with something for Matthew to do. I think that was an excuse so he could leave and go make movies.
Claudia -- Beautifully written and beautifully put. What an insightful heart you have. 😊
GoGreen1977...I agree. It would have been a pleasure simply watching Matthew and Mary grow old together at Downton. The fans would have remained steadfast.
frisco21: I, too, would have loved to see Mary and Matthew grow together with George. I was so sad and angry wen he was killed off.
But to kill Matthew on the day of his child’s birth.... too cruel!!
I will always be sad that Matthew died, but in the end, he accomplished what Downton needed: an heir and sustainability. It is true the series was not the same without him, but such is life: we can never always have everything.
Mary and Matthew's love was the best one in the entire series.
No doubt whatsoever. It's hard to top Dan Stevens, period.
I thought Bates and Anna was a better love plot. Mary is difficult to like.
Sybill and Tom
Even here, Jorah, still is The Lord of Friend-zone.
Nahhh, not friend-zone, pretty sure he has no friends at all at Downton
xotkflip loooool
hahahaha exactly what I thought too!!!
@@joanbernsten3960 oh! That burn!
Jorah and Tyrion are the only reason I could stand GoT, books or series.
There are certain shows where the deaths of characters stay with you forever, the show never the same afterwards. The tragedy and heartache stays with you like it was a real personal loss. Matthew is one such person.
Oh my god you describe it so well!!
I would the same but about Mary & Matthew as a couple💔💔💔
So agreed 😭😭😭😭😭
The proposal in the snow is one of the most romantic scenes in TV history.
Mary was right. Matthew was the son Lord Grandthum never had. I love that he loved Matthew as a son.
Mary matured so much in series 2. Series 1 Mary would’ve ignored Lavinia’s tears and stolen Matthew off her
So true, then after Matthew died it’s like she sort of reverted back to her old ways just in a more subtle and colder way
The war changes people
gulmina khan what
gulmina khan you don’t have to cry to be sad about someone’s death. Mary was sad but she didn’t ball down the place
gulmina khan how did she celebrate? At the time Matthew got the money, over a year at least had passed
Their relationship is perfect❤️❤️ That lucky charm has become such a memento
I knew they were meant for each other the moment Matthew's eyes landed on her for the very first time. The way he looked at her gave it away. I guess he really is a good actor.
I would recommend first 3 seasons of Downtown Abbey for anyone who like heartwarming/romantic storylines. What a masterpiece!!!! Their facial expressions when they both see expressed their love for both. Wow Can't get off my mind from that. One of the best romantic fictional couples I have ever seen♥️
And the music is elegant and poignant too
Mary and Matthew are meant to be together, they are soulmates :’)
His proposal to her will always be my favourite scene ❤️
Her grandma is just my favorite 😭
so elegant and comedian the same time!!
one of the greatest love stories of all time... the rolling camera shot of their kiss before lavinia comes downstairs is just so beautiful x
They were meant to be together! Love this! ❤️❤️
True soulmates
I love guys like Matthew,he is totally the dream boy of me.I hope in my life I could have a gentleman like him.
True..
WHAT an actor Dan Stevens is (3 seconds). Those sideways looks ... no dialogue but so powerful, creating huge chemistry between these two that couldn't be replaced
You’ve lived your life and I have lived mine, it is time now we live our lives together. Beautiful Moments
The show ended with Matthew holding his son. And they lived happily ever after
Yes. Roll the credits. End it there please 😭
Indeed😢❤
When I finally watched this show, that's exactly what I did. Right at that moment, I turned off the show and said "ah, a happy ending" and quit watching. 🤣
Mary and Matthew were special, Mary’s relationship with Henry felt rushed and unearned
Exactly there marriage was just convenient
_ lokitty Unfortunately it’s all down to actors & contracts, otherwise Matthew wouldn’t have to ‘die’.
I was so mesmerised by Downton Abbey. Matthew and Mary both perform their role with authenticity.
You fall in love with each scene.
Mary, will I be the first person to sleep with you?
Yes.....if you sleep!
Season 2 was my favourite just because of them. And the Xmas special is just my everything.
I lost all interest on watching this series when Matthew died, I really tried to continue but I couldn't. It's been years and I haven't get over it :(
Agreed. Any of Mary's love interests after Matthew just didn't quite cut it. I know it would never happen but I kind of wanted Mary and Bronson to get together..
Kristin Reese no that was not a good story they could tell
haven't finished the series yet. it's not interesting to see any more I just keep watching the first three series over and over again
His death was very game of thrones out of no where and very shocking
You don't know what you've missed !
There. Are. No. Episodes. Past. Matthews. Death
Be brave...so much more to enjoy!
So true
And there were no scenes past Mary, Matthew and George in the hospital
Lisa McLeod preach!
The 4th, 5th and 6th seasons are all very beautiful, trust me, you are missing a lot
I haven't even watched this show.. I just stumbled on this compilation by accident--but why is it moving me to tears??
Because Downton Abbey is a masterpiece!
Hated to see this series end...
can someone cast dan and michelle to play together in a movie as the lead couple? their chemistry is amazing 😩❤
I believe Michelle and Dan have worked together pre- Downton Abbey. I swear I saw some TV drama/film with them in lead roles. Ages ago.
"will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?" I think I'll use that line in the future lol
It's a famous and oft used phrase throughout history.
I don't know you, but I hope that such an opportunity happens to both of you.
@@RandomPlayIist thanks dude
*My husband used it and we’re going on to 32 years of marriage...* 🤷🏻♀️
I'm 51 and have always been single. At this point, I don't think I'll ever have the opportunity to use that line. Makes me sad and certainly incomplete. Hopefully, you will not suffer my fate.
That awkward moment when your fiancee catches you making out with your cousin...
caitlyn avery lol. But to me it wasn’t awkward. Matthew was her 4th cousin so they are barely related
I mean she was gonna marry Patrick who was a closer relative.
😂
Don’t think I’ll ever forgive Dan Stevens for abandoning this show
I hope he is regretting it
@@jehannethompson1432 evidently, many feel as you do.
@@jehannethompson1432 agree!
When you can't take your eyes off one another, and can feel when the other is near or in trouble that's true love!
"I never could despise you." This quote is so romantic.
I thought the intro where Daisy and Mary felt their loved ones’ pain was so powerful. It still makes me want to cry.
These beautiful, complex characters & the wonderfully talented actors who played them invoke tears every time---even within these short clips. Perfection!!
I love Matt, he is handsome, smart, kind, warm and educated, in both drama and reality. His beautiful eyes are stunning.
And his resonant baritone voice....in addition to those dreamy blue eyes. And so very intelligent. He's just the epitome of class.
I just know I will be forever addicted to those enchanting eyes!
I blame the actors. As Julian fellowes said he would not have killed off Matthew or Sybil if they didnt want out.
I blame the British contract that is limited to 3 years only
A bit harsh from Julian Fellowes. He was once an actor too. I believe Dan and Jessica made the right career decision to move on after 3 series. And of course we get to see Dan in more diverse roles. I love him as Alexander Lemtov.
OMG nothing can top their romance❤ so unique💚💛 and the background music whenever they converse😍
Oh I know! I call it the "Mary and Matthew ballad" tears me up every time...😪❤
It's actually the Matthew theme -- it is always in the background music when he's on with scenes w/Mary in the first 3 seasons. Alan Lunn saved his most gorgeous and achingly sad music for Matthew. Dan Stevens is a great actor and that's the reason his absence was felt more than anyone else in Downton Abbey.
Mary’s voice tone is something else she is perfect
Kiss Of Fire I agree completely.
Very very well said.
Mary and Matthew you made me believe that love is true
So true!
But werent they cousins?
Rimgaile Kasnauskaite Third cousins once removed I think.
@@maxeyre2024 oh... I guess its not that bad but still weird
@@bloodtypena at those times and in between wealth families it was pretty okay
I loved these two’s relationship and I still do to this day. They are my forever OTP❤️
The proposal scene will always be my favorite Downton scene! 💗 I love Matthew/Mary so much! 😊 Still not over his death.
i love Mary and Matthew together but Lavinia really got screwed over
yeah, and to consider Matthew also inherited Lavinia father fortune.
@@benyamina8243 He didn't want to take it , just saying.
I don't think so. Matthew was prepared to go through with the marriage but then Lavinia died. She just wanted Matthew to be happy.
He music for Mary and Matthew. No matter how many times it buckles me
Самый прекрасный, душевный фильм...отношения в семье, с прислугой очень тактичные, понимающие, без истерик....Не могу остановить внимание на просмотре других ппосле этого шедевра...

Gotta love season 2 Matthew and Mary ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful couple. A match really made in heaven
One of the most memorable, spectacular, iconic fictional couples ever to grace the screen. Just to think of them -- one is almost convinced that they are "real." 😢
Michele Dockery did a really good job in this scene. Being so on the edge of tears that's got to be hard to do.
I LOVE you all from Downton Abbey! I love Downton Abbey!
I wish Matthew can show up in the coming movie😭😭
He is dead. Hard to do.
It is just those few seconds at the beginning, 0:06-0:10, where they see each other and it's as if Mary totally re regrets those decisions she made three years prior. But it is so delicately and emotionally portrayed.
Обожаю этот сериал " Аббатство Даунтон " ! Хочется рассматривать каждую деталь, проживать каждую эмоцию, слушать каждую фразу...
I love Russians
Matthew and Mary are one the sweetest pairs. They supported each other and no matter what they always cared for each other. Oh I just wish Matthew never died and they stayed together forever. I still remember the line which Mary says to Gillingham-"You said I fill your mind but Matthew fills mine". And no matter what no other person would be as good as Matthew ❤️
Mary took care of Matthew when he was injured, prayed for him, looked after his lover and mother when he was away
What did Matthew do for Mary?
J. Fellowes managed to create an amazing couple with Mary and Mathew , fascinating and unforgettable ...
From a French fan.
Love the connection these 2 had 💘💘
I just finished season 3. I knew something was going wrong when the last sequence of the last episode of season 3 was happening. My heart felt heavy but I didn't cry. Then the same day, I was just brushing my teeth when the thought of Matthew's death came to me. I started tearing up. I can't imagine losing someone you love as much as Mary loved Matthew. I probably couldn't take if it were me.
I started watching the first episode of the next season but stopped midway. I feel like I won't continue watching it.
Yeah I stopped watching after he died. I didn’t like how they paired her up with a bunch of different men after he died
