I love that the set the tone immediately, with Aurelio's phone call to Viggo. "I heard you struck my son." "Yes, sir, I did." "...may I ask why?" "Because he stole John Wick's car, sir, and killed his dog." "...oh."
This line doesn't get as much praise as it should. The things that scared Russian gangsters were what Wick dealt with. Not things that frightened the average person, things that gave hardened criminals nightmares. That was a Tuesday for John Wick.
That and the impossible task and the bodies that are the foundation of their whole business. 1- He's scarier than the boogeyman. 2- He did the impossible. 3- We owe everything we are to what he did.
I like that line because it sets up the story for the second one. We assume John could get the job done which he could but he was taking care of his sick wife. So he needed help to ensure he had time for his wife. Obviously spoilers alert but John made a blood pact with someone to help take care of that impossible task.
It's like hearing the Covenant calling Master Chief "The Demon." Only by the time you actually start hearing them call him that, you already know DAMN WELL why they say that.
I love how Viggo's entire speech boils down to 'Let your final service to this family be an attempt to get distance, to keep us out of the blast radius of what you've brought on yourself'.
Mikael Nyquist who is the Mob Boss here was such a Swedish National Treasure. Amazing actor and seemed to be a all around nice guy too. So tragic that he died so early but also cool that he got to have this part before that happened.
god it was just so epic that John was called Baba Yaga not because he WAS the boogeman but because he was the one that kept the boogeymen from coming out of their holes
When you learn what it takes to earn a single gold coin - then see the fortune of coins John had buried in a concrete vault…. You realize that John’s the wrong man to mess with.
This is simply the best presentation of a character, the fear in Viggo's voice, Aurelio explained to him what the son did and that ou was enough to give us an idea of something, but as soon as he starts to explain who John Wick was with that low voice and in a dark tone while John goes down to the basement he begins to hammer while he continues narrating his story that scene is perfect, at that moment you realize that a deadly massacre and shootout is coming closing with Viggo's call to John trying to calm the Cheers, the cutting of John without saying a word, to a mafia boss type, powerful and owner of an empire, it is a matter of waiting to see if this John Wick really was what he narrated and he never disappointed John was and is a masterful murderer.
Bro the last words Viggo tells to his son is like he was saying: "what i am trying to say son is, you are already dead". Imagine that while Viggo is crying.
"John will come for you, and you will do nothing because you can do nothing..." - Viggo (John Wick 1) "Did you come for the Pope?" - Julius asks John (John Wick 2) I like how they talk about him coming for people instead of killing them because that makes him akin to the grim reaper... The reaper doesn't kill you, he just comes for you because once he comes, death is certain. And John pounding the concrete with a sledgehammer as if he's digging up a part of himself that he hoped he would never see again... He lets out screams of rage at the fact that he has to unleash his darker side once again. He has a similar moment in part 2 where he picks up some of his stuff before heading to the Continental in Rome.
I love the sense of doom when JW opens the basement door, and Viggo talking about John making the foundations of the business while JW is busy destroying the foundations with a sledgehammer.
Maybe the next thing you can do is where the more competent attackers invade wicks house and he proceeds to murder them in fantastic fashion then it all ends with the police officer asking about a noise complaint knowing full well who wick is Also i was in the middle of writing the comment clarifying about this video and then it popped up lol 😆
He's explaining the shit his son is in, while at the same time grieving the loss of him. He poured himself a drink in memory of his dead son...RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. He's trying to explain to his son that he's already a dead man, Death just hasn't caught up to him yet....but he's coming, and there is nothing he can do to stop it. His last works to his son were pretty much "Get as far away from here as you can, so we don't get caught in the wave of catastrophe you brought onto yourself.
what is really amazing in this scene is when Viggo tell his son about the impossible task he gave to John Wick before letting him retire and be free from the organization, he said that this mission was the foundation of them at the same time we see John Wick destroy and smash his basement foundation to get prepared for the war he will begin to get his revenge against Viggo's son for killing his dog and stealing his car. and by the way another thing about the movie. i think the whole thing about the outrage that John Wick started wasn't specially because stealing the car or killing the dog in first place, i think the losing his wife and the only human that gotten him out of his dark world, then comes Viggo's son and did what he done, so he decided to unleash his angry about the lose of his wife on someone and that someone was Viggo's son.
You seem to FORGET, ONE VERY Important fact, John Wick's Wife, last Gift to John was the Puppy, as Her Very LAST LOVING, PARTING gift before She died. That's Why John Wick is going AFTER Viggo's Son.
@@andynieuwenhuis7833 Exactly, that puppy was the last semblance of her love and to watch it be killed broke him. Watching the series, I think if the High Table knew of this when it happened then they would have hid Iosef for Viggo to ensure John came back to the fold
Great selected scene, but during the movie's key spoken lines, you should mute all the reactors, and then unmute them for their responses to those key lines. I could barely make out the.l movie lines because so many reactors were talking over them.
The three guys with matching red mics are the same channel. I know that even if only one of them have not seen it they will react to it. So it's possible they have 2 of them have seen it. It's not taking a reaction as they are very open about who of the three have seen it before they start. I recommend their channel is the reel time reaction channel!
So I was wondering, why would John Wick tell his associates that he wanted to marry a woman, wouldn't she be his one weakness?... and then almost as quickly it hit me: he wasn't giving away a potential weakness, rather he was giving his associates a line which they were to never cross.
A lot of symbolism in that scene. Vigo said John layed the foundation of what they are and John was breaking the foundation with that hammer, where is past was buried.
Ironic that the boy calls John Wick... a "nobody"... as obviously that's the name of a movie with kindred wick character. Scary people you don't fuck with . Iv met a few...eg the all Thailand kickboxing champion. A 22 year old Israel special forces assassin (his eyes were old, dark and menacing). There are real people like this...😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
One of the best introductory scene for a main character. You can feel the tension and fear like it was real.
Facts! Plus I think Vigo was angry, scared and sad because he knew his son was gonna die soon.
I love that the set the tone immediately, with Aurelio's phone call to Viggo.
"I heard you struck my son."
"Yes, sir, I did."
"...may I ask why?"
"Because he stole John Wick's car, sir, and killed his dog."
"...oh."
No, it's The best. Name another that even comes close😉
The soundtrack in this scene just makes it sound more menacing
Right like we are shown a seemingly normal grieving man then we are told that normal nobody is the deadliest man alive
"He was the one you sent to _kill_ the fuckin' Boogeyman."
One line that sums up just how scary this man is lol.
One of the reactors when hearing that: Well, that's terrifying
😂
This line doesn't get as much praise as it should. The things that scared Russian gangsters were what Wick dealt with. Not things that frightened the average person, things that gave hardened criminals nightmares. That was a Tuesday for John Wick.
When I first heard that line, I was like “Oh shit, this guy fucked up fucked up.”
That and the impossible task and the bodies that are the foundation of their whole business.
1- He's scarier than the boogeyman.
2- He did the impossible.
3- We owe everything we are to what he did.
The symbolism of "the bodys he burried that day" whilst digging up his arsenal of weapons is perfect screen direction & editing
I like that line because it sets up the story for the second one. We assume John could get the job done which he could but he was taking care of his sick wife. So he needed help to ensure he had time for his wife. Obviously spoilers alert but John made a blood pact with someone to help take care of that impossible task.
it is not a spoiler at this point I think everybody now knows about the italian@@hardcorenativextreme
Additionally mentioning he laid the foundation for what they are as he breaks the foundation of his house.
I agree. That was both beautiful and powerful. Great scene directing & editing.
My Favorite Action Movie Series! I Keau Fngal!🤪😉😆🥰🐶💥👨👩👦💞
"So get the fuck out of my sight!"
That's the last time he saw or spoke to his son.
I love that the ANTAGONIST is talking about the “hero” of the story like John is the villain to be warned about

Cause he knows his son just called Death itself to their doorsteps💀
I love how Viggo's entire speech boils down to 'Let your final service to this family be an attempt to get distance, to keep us out of the blast radius of what you've brought on yourself'.
And even THEN he STILL has to fight for his dumbass son because his reputation as a mob boss DEMANDS it... The boy fucked up... Royally...
Great summary. That’s exactly what it is. Viggo knows he can’t stop John, but he can at least buy Iosef time to get away.
This scene lays the foundation of what John wick franchise is today. ❤
I bet he used a #2 pencil✏

Mikael Nyquist who is the Mob Boss here was such a Swedish National Treasure. Amazing actor and seemed to be a all around nice guy too. So tragic that he died so early but also cool that he got to have this part before that happened.
He also starred as the main protagonist in one of my alltime favourites, the Millenium trilogy. He was an amazing actor

Of course he will come for you!

Some great world building in this movie and this scene in particular. Love it.
When the villian narrates a story like that. You should know how terrifying John was in his prime.
"The bodies he buried that day" this never fails to give me the chills 🥶
