    Great, comprehensive, relatable review. Gives me a great sense of both jackets. Nice work.

    When you were discussing the warmth of the jackets and the point at which you felt the cold, what layers did you have on at the time?

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was just wearing a sun hoody underneath. This is my standard for testing these jackets as it gives me a baseline. Of course these could go further down in temp if you add additional layers underneath.

    I have both and the the microlight alpine is an amazing jacket. The electron feels like wearing a warm duvet but its a bit overkill for the uk i find. The microlight alpine is deceptively warm. Served me well!

    Would the electron pro fit under a hard shell? For the super super windy or snowy days?

      @@HenryHHHz14 you would probably need to size up a bit for your shell as the electron pro is a bit bulky

    I always check out jacket videos and learn so much about them. I like this jacket. ℹ normally buy Eddie Bauer jackets because they’re really good and affordable 😊

    Rab made amazing down jackets and parkas. However, you need to be tall and slim to wear it well. I had an opportunity to buy 12 down jackets and parkas from a local retailer to test out. I keep the Rab Positron Pro (medium) and Zero-G (large), but they are all great. I just can't fit into them comfortably. They recently released the new Mythic G, Mythic Ultra, and Mythic Alpine. They all look amazing and they might be cut for an athletic body. However, those prioritize weight and warmth, so not great for city usage.
    I currently use Arc'teryx Thorium, Cerium LT, and Patagonia down sweaters, so to say that Rab jackets are better says a lot.

    I purchased the Rab Micro light jacket last year and in size small and found this jacket to be lacking in down and overall general warmth. I specifically got this jacket as a lightweight backcountry ski touring jacket to be worn under a Gore Tex shell etc. I used it while skiing in the Lyngen Alps in Norway last year and then when doing the Ortler ski tour in northern Italy. I personally feel that this isn’t the best jacket for winter use but more suitable for spring or Autumn or general use. This jacket definitely has its place but it needs a little more refinement. I feel Rab should consider incorporating some flexibility into the waist like used in the cuffs of this jacket, as the waist tends to be a little on the narrow side and therefore restrictive . A little bit more down would also go a long way.
    I do like the Gore Tex Infinium used on the outer shell of this Jacket as it does provide a workable shower proof coating.

    Are the sleeves for the electron pro a bit longer or would you say they’re the same length?

    • @BackcountryRenegade

      the electron pro sleeves are a bit longer and have articulated elbows to allow to reach for holds with out the sleeves running up your arms

    The Rab Microlight for me is a little problematic. The low quality down, in fill power ADD in ratio of down to feathers, is such a letdown. It also leaks feathers like no other down jacket I’ve owned. Hard to say why, perhaps simply due to the high feather content.

    I just brought the microlight and tried it out in the UK with just a t-shirt underneath in Autumn weather , I found it cold even at 10c/50f .I know it's supposed to be part of a layered system but I do like to be able to go out for a walk and not be layered up with all the extra cost and washing for that reason I'm selling it and trying the electron.I want to add I think the sizing of the microlight changed , I brought a 2022 from eBay xl and it was a really nice slim fit but damaged ,then brought a new 2024 and it was very baggy for an XL I think they changed it to accommodate layers.

  • @cbgny23

    My problem with Rab down jackets is they cut the armpits way too high and constrictive in my normal men's medium. Their heavier, winter belay jackets fit well in a large, but that's worn over all of my layers. Yeah, the left-handed zipper is annoying. Rab needs to change that for the garments they ship to North America.

    • @ObjectiveMedia
      @ObjectiveMedia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are athletic cut. Insulation layers are meant to be close fitting to maximise thermal efficiency and because they often go under an additional shell/outer layer

      @@BackcountryRenegade OK. But maybe I missed it but I didn't hear any mention of trail performance. Which is what these jackets are made for. And there, these are entirely different jackets. You're not hiking in the Electron unless it's in the teens or lower. And it's not living in most backpacking packs. Maybe your reviews are more geared to town use. And that's fine. It's your channel. But the Electron vs. an Arc' Thorium or the Microlight vs. an MH Ghost Whisper would have set up real comparisons for people who get their stuff in the dirt. But again, your channel.
