Just discovering Corelli in 2024: What an absolute treasure!
Everyone saying that he was a handsome man. Which is obvious. But I've listened to countless tenors as a tenor student myself, and I can tell that no tenor ever existed had such voice. No one. Period. Maybe he can be compared to Pertile and Merli. But the way he expresses himself is just on another level, the passion is just overwhelming.
I totally agree with you. His handsome face was a plus, no doubts, but his voice was very special, such as nobody compares to him.

For me him & Lanza were the best.
Corelli was undoubtedly the finest tenor of his era. He sang the highest notes so effortlessly!
He MUST be recognized as our greatest operatic artist ever! He had it all, the voice of a god, the looks of a romantic prince, acting ability, communicating every emotion. When will there be another like him?

Franco Corelli was IMO the best opera singer that ever lived. His performances were always outstanding. Absolutely great.
And I have a question in this point. Who they are those 37 people that doesn't like this interpretation. What they want? What is the problem with this recording? Is the historical material? The perfect technic? The beautiful voice? The stunning presence? The clear diction? The truly and honest interpretation? The generosity of the person who post this so we can have it for free? What they want from life?

When I saw him in "Tosca" (in Philly), this aria was even better....more expansive, longer high notes, more breathtaking diminuendo on the first high A, incredible climax at the end. The audience was beside itself, clamoring 'encore', but he didn't. He was a god onstage.
The way he sobs at the end brought tears to my eyes.

Del Monaco&Corelli ruled the dramatic&spinto repertoire back in 50s&60s.They didnt want to do any crossover performances like Pavarotti had done so frequently in the last 20 years of his career.They were the true opera superstars,earned that status through hard work,commitment to opera and dedication to their roles.Its appaling how many people today still consider Pav greatest ever,but in fact,his true legacy lies in popularisation of opera,not actual opera.He was all but done with opera in 80s
Half of the people who love Nessun Dorma would never have heard it if Pavarotti had not reached out to the general public. His legacy is enormous, and the opera world should be grateful! Art forms cannot survive without new blood!

I have studied the tenor voice for over 50 years and so I believe I am qualified in saying no-one comes close to his control, power, passion and finesse....
We are very privileged to see the dedication of this man and to hear his voice ...

I have as well and agree, he was/is the best. No one else has ever had it all, the way he did. What a pleasure to have seen him and heard him. He always sang his heart out, nothing was left undone/unsung. He never held anything back.

@@olgaevt8282 Young Domingo was excellent, I saw him in 1972, the first time as Don Jose in Carmen in Calif. he was age 31, it was with Mezzo Baldani, and I saw him many times since then, his top earlier was much better then later in the mid 1980's, when it got tight at times, I saw PD also in concert and opera and did see him as Otello in Chicago, when he did donate all the money Chicago paid him for the bad earthquake in Mexico at the time, he sang very well with no bad habits as always, but wasn't for me the Otello MDM was, as I saw him sing it in house in 1959 with my family in Milan, seems to me after seeing many Otello's sing it with many different tenors, that Del Monaco had the best voice for the role, and he sounded better in house then his old London LP's of complete opera's, and I saw many others sing the Otello role in over 62 years of opera going, both MDM and Tucker, but especially MDM sounded better in house I think, then on many of their studio recordings.
Cont. As was Corelli and yet he sang so many different kinds of music a great artist and had also adequate volume in Most of his roles, a nice point up top and he did record well. His death in 1960 at age 49 left us with many roles not sung, that later he might have sung. I only saw him once, as the Duke in 1958 with Moffo/Gobbi, I had started going to opera's in 1957 at age 17.

The best 'E lucevan le stelle' ever! I've played this recording, from Vai's DVD, for my grandmother countless times, and it remains her favourite recording of any aria!
If there is an "after life" which I believe there is, I would book his concert above. He is magical to listen to, also breathtaking to look at. We will never forget you.

Timeless! What a nostalgic voice, very unique. I saw him live when I was 6 or 7 years old in Rome with Mirella Freni. My Mama was studying in Rome on a scholarship at the Santa Cecilia Academy. She took me to the Opera every time she could and I have loved it ever since. Besides Pavarotti, Mario del Monaco and Corelli are one of my favorite tenors.

Yes sir, I mean when your glottal space is open, you can clearly see it glide down. Even in this video, you can see it move in a downward position, his glottal space was soooo open by this point in his life. This is why I love watching Corelli sing, because you can clearly see his technique in action. But the larynx is never forced down; as many people state.
You can see the larynx relax as he breathes. I agree he's not forcing it.
