This is one of my favorite gaming channels for real. It's so original, like nobody else does gaming content in this style. It's just all really well done
Yeah, UCBVG is like a longplay with more commentary, but he never does sudden laughs or yells, and he keeps the audio well balanced so it's perfect for falling asleep to. He found a great niche.
So I've been avoiding so many of your videos on non-Nintendo systems in order not to spoiler myself - but I had to click and watch this one because so curious about the character cutouts, lol... and WOW. What an amazing episode. This is good journalism, folks.
Like, there's a whole gd documentary included with a Longplay with full commentary. Like, are you human? How do you even make all this content, I'm blown away.
Thanks for pulling out the stops to bring us this gem. I had no idea this game even existed, and that an official sequel to Shadowgate prior to Shadowgate VR was made. I also appreciate cluing us in on the Beyond Shadowgate 2023 kickstarter, and I really hope that game is good. If it is, I'll probably look into the rest of their MacVenture-styled titles.
Man, Shadowgate on NES was one of my favorite games growing up, and I remember playing the GBC release so many times I was practically a speedrunner of it. Yet I still had NO idea that the 2023 Beyond Shadowgate Kickstarter had even begun. Thanks to this video, I was able to back it! Hopefully, I'll be seeing my name in the credits along with a ton of other fans before too much longer.
@@EnjoySackLunch It’s Kickstarted by the original team. The ones that legitimately Kick Started and delivered the Shadowgate Remake. And they reached their goal for this one in 4 hours
I love when we get to see behind the scenes and hear from original designers of great games! A big thank you to Dave Marsh for taking the time to talk to us and share his experience with the making of these games! And thank you for sharing the news of the new Shadowgate sequel! I'm looking forward to it's release! And as always, thank you for the great video and stay safe out there!
Hey, UCBVG! Huge fan of your videos! Thanks so much for your playthrough of TG16 Beyond Shadowgate and bringing further attention to the Beyond Shadowgate Kickstarter! Can't wait to see their vision for the game! My friend introduced me to Beyond Shadowgate and your video spurred me to check even further into the game and see what else may be within it. My friend and I updated their walkthrough on GameFAQs with what we've found, which was plenty of cut content, a couple of cut rooms, as well as a chunk of cut items, and, most importantly, a never before seen death which can be seen IN the game! We're currently documenting what we can within the game and can't wait to share it with the fans! Thanks again for playing this gem! EDIT: The information is up on The Cutting Room Floor now as well as a video within my channel. GameFAQs has approved the updated walkthrough! Version 3.0 is now available! The walkthrough has a complete script of all voice acted content as well, as I've seen several comments on this video mention the low audio of the in-game voice-overs. Since subtitles don't exist, the game script may help there.
Oh wow! The team doing the first person redesign of Beyond seems to have a real love for this project, I definitely had to get in and support this, this is going to be an awesome blast to the macventure past when they get this done! Thanks for shouting them out and all the amazing content you provide to this day.
Your commentary is amazing! The perfect blend of sarcasm, seriousness, jokes and just the most amazing way of delivering information that makes it stick in your head! So well done! I have never liked a video game walkthrough channel more in my life!!!
I woke up 20 minutes ago, what great timing IMO! Time for my version of Monday Morning cartoons with some UCBVG goodness. This time with something I've never heard of. This is gonna be a treat!!! 😁 EDIT: Those confused, I'm in Australia and it's 5:30am. Hello from the future thanks to Timezones. :D
Thanks much for this. Well, this and all of your other content too. This one is particularly enjoyable and entertaining to simply watch. More like an let's play than a walkthrough. "Point and click" adventure games are usually fun to watch. You and this one make it quite good. Thanks
I loved the throwback to Fraggle Rock! This is why I love your channel listening to you beat video games, you know all the right things to say to get a chuckle out of us!
UCBVG (at the conclusion of the DW3 videos): "I'm going to take a break and go back to some shorter games." Proceeds to put out almost a 3 hour video one week later. Great job and love having new videos to watch!
I love the way you break everything down. I vividly remember playing this game for months and never beating it. It was cool to see it finished as well as see everything I missed
Wow. Did NOT expect this after your 3-parter on Dragon Warrior 3. Never knew about this game; then again, I never knew there was a TG CD at all (I knew about the TG16, that was it). Nicely done.
I get so happy whenever programmers get in touch and make an appearance in the episodes! Great job as always, my man. I really loved the Dragon Quest 3 guide!
Old lady killing Eric by telling him stories nonstop in this game is one of the funniest death sequences in video game history, imo! 🤣🤣🤣 It is #1 in my book…. Too bad for me that I probably won’t be able to play this game…..
When I was young I had a babysitter who's kid worked for NEC and had a ton of Turbo Graphics hue cards. Anyways, thanks for the video; I love Shadowgate and the other MacVenture games on the NES and now I have to back Beyond Shadowgate.
Very excited to experience my first new UCBVG video since becoming a subscriber. And as a Shadowgate fan who never experienced this, I am super stoked to watch and enjoy!
I’ve watched every single one of your videos and love your work, sir. Bought the shirt, supported your channel, everything. And I gotta say. This Beyond Shadowgate is one of your funniest videos. Not just because of the game’s humour, but mainly yours. Hats off, man. Loving it. And all the while showing me how to beat the game too.
It's neat that you're doing a game that wann't released on the NES. Don't get me wrong, I love NES games, but it's cool to see you diversify your console portfoleo. Keep up these wonderful guides. You allow a blind person to understand what's going on in these graphical games. Lovely!
1:13 - How did Captain Dallas end up chained in a dungeon? Does the Nostromo have a medieval holding cell? Is this where the Xenomorph took him after capturing him in the vents? I need answers!
Could you imagine how different our lives would be if we’d gotten beyond shadowgate as originally intended? Okay, maybe not not that different, but it would have been cool to have another addition to the Macventure series.
I actually think this game looks better. It reminds me of one of my favorite games called The Missing but with point and click adventure elements. If I had played this when it came out it would have been one of my favorite games.
IIRC this game makes use of the system medium-high resolution mode (352x224) to cram in all the detail possible for the hand-painted backgrounds and artwork. You can also tell they used a primitive quantizer to calculate the palettes for the background tiles.
The hand-drawn animations are amazing. Especially all the death animations (both the hero's and the villians). You get the graphic death text descriptions from the original Shadowgate in actual animated form in this game. An amazing sequel to a classic game that sadly many of us missed.
I wasn't sure about this game until I got sawed in half, and eaten by a mushroom - Couldn't help but be curious about what else was in store for the hero!
Thank you for the game, on a console I never even heard off. I hope in the future we will see more obscure consoles games or Game Gear game in the future.
Another amazing, impressive and exhaustive guide! Personally, I love the red demon in the front of the castle. He looks like mix between giant (GIANT) ocelot cat and long eared bat (head). Maybe if you would give him good belly rubs or scritches behind ears, he would let you inside the castle.
Absolutely love your work man. Love the games you pick as well. Thank you. You've provided me with days of entertainment, tons of new knowledge, and more than 1 trip down memory lane. Hope you go viral and make millions.
Another very, very excellent let's play and discussion. Never gets old listening to those history recaps before the actual gameplay. You found your style and niche, my man
And now we can play the fully realized Beyond Shadowgate as it was just released about a week ago on Steam! Love how they kept visuals of the Macintosh version.

Thanks for playing this. I played Shadowgate on the Nes before internet "for me" and videogame hint books was out. It was a game I loved enough to pay 99 cents a minute to use a slow dial tone menu for hints. The bridge, the dragon and the wand near the end stumped me enough to spend around 30 bucks in 80's phone bill money to beat the game. I never used any hint lines after that game. :)
I got a MiSTer a few months ago and have been pairing this channel a lot with some games I've always meant to beat. Got through Zelda 2 and blaster master finally. Thanks!!
YES!! Their going with nes style for the remake. The look and feel of gameplay on the nes is the most enjoyable out of ALL the consoles. Including ps5. Newly made nes games like Prison City on the Switch sell immediately. It would be cool if companies made much more nes looking and style games more often! = )
I noticed the little controller detail change in the intro! I don’t like these types of games, but you just make everything interesting so I have to watch. Well done as always!

This is an obscure retro pixel art masterpiece! Thank you for uncovering and displaying this gem. If I knew this game existed at the time, I would have bought the Turbo Grafx CD just to play this game. 😄
Another great episode! One thing I didn't understand was the trigger for the elemental room shortcut down to the Well of Souls rather than up to the Iridescent Room. I assume that it was because you didn't complete some objective or have some item in your inventory. Any details on that?
If you don’t have the Squeak Toy Mouse AND don’t have any gold coins on you, the game will fast forward you to The Well of Souls instead of the Clock Tower.
Pretty funny Prince Eric had a magic sword and staff and he still punches everything to death, lol. The aspect where you can kill friendly NPC's kinda reminds me of one of my favorite games, King's Field 2. You're the Prince of that Kingdom and you can go around murdering everyone if you want to. kinda bleak but i appreciate the option to roleplay as a darker character!
Shadowgate on the NES was the first video game I ever beat without using cheats or strategy guides or anything. It was also probably the game that got me into adventure/RPG style games. I always thought it looked really boring; you're just looking at pictures and reading stuff the whole time; but a friend of mine talked me into trying it and I was hooked. I remember having all kinds of crazy dreams about the behemoth and the warlock lord. Good memories :)
Came here for the playthrough of a game I hadn't seen related to one I loved as a kid, found out about a sequel that never saw the light of day and a kickstarter to make it real? That's a heck of a twist. I'm so hyped to see what the team manages to come up with from those original design documents, it sounds amazing from the way you described it.
I have only ever heard of this game, but never got to play it. Keep them coming brother! Side note: Any Tenchi Muyo fans looking for games will find the majority of them for the PC Engine (Turbo Grafx)
I was so excited to see beyond shadowgate being remade on kickstarter. I instantly bought the board game that just came out not too long ago, but I went all in on the kickstarter project and I can't wait to play it
I guess the Warlock Lord found the Paddle-Ball more entertaining in the end than conquering the world.... Have to say that Prince Erik is one tough character, he just punches monsters to death. Also the old lady and the photo book has to be one of the most hilarious deaths ive come across in games.
Reporting back here on Beyond Shadowgate's launch day to say that it has delivered AND THEN some! The game is a fantastic return to form, very cryptic in some places though (but not so cryptic that it forces you to die over and over, more just trying to figure out what path to take next, as there are multiple). Music is great too, and the artwork is sublime, overall a great playthrough for fans of OG Shadowgate!
This is one of my favorite gaming channels for real. It's so original, like nobody else does gaming content in this style. It's just all really well done

Holy crap I thought you said you were gonna do a short video after DW3, this is an awesome surprise!!
1:23:12 him standing there with his arms crossed while the child is cooked alive 😂
i am so unaware of the Turbo Grafx that until you mentioned it in the NES Shadowgate video i had literally never heard of it..
I was only ever aware of the NES version.
It is extremely cool to see that there is a whole story and story line to Shadowgate ! 👍
Nice Sunny reference :)
Just a fantastic video. I never heard of this game, but really enjoyed watching this play though!
When's the next one going up it's been 11 days I'm always excited to see what you do next
