I have two of those wire wrapped Enfield's myself. I never bougth the grenade launcher attachment for mine though people have been using them to launch tennis balls for years. The rifle is the Enfield No.1 Mk. III to be specific. It was the standard British battle rifle only up to 1941 when it was replace by the No.4 Mk I rifle. Most of these rifles are marked GRI (George Rex Impereator India) since they were manufactured in India after WWII.

So it looks like you have an Enfield no.1 Mark III* or SMLE. It was the standard British military rifle for WW1. Its true the Brits started WW2 with that rifle but it was replaced early on by the no.4 Mark I or Mark I*. Nice to see how you spend your down time when your not educating in the classroom or via TH-cam.

The cup takes standard British No. 36 Mills Bomb grenades. Insert into the cup, pull the pin. The spoon/lever is held by the cup until it's fired from the cup, at which point the lever flies off and initiates the grenade firing sequence/fuse.

Interesting Video. Vietnam Vet here. While it is educational and """" fun """" to use that weapon, keep in mind that the object of the exercise is to KILL someone. Casually positioned on one knee while keeping the rifle at a forty five degree angle is not stressful until the enemy is trying put a bullet somewhere in your personage or is tossing grenades back at your position with the same deadly intent. The probability of hitting what you are aiming at with a hand held non tripod grenade launcher at that distance is somewhat low. Also keep in mind that the mass and weight of a grenade round is markedly different that an air filled tennis ball so the absolute maximum range of the rifle as configured is 400 meters. At this range a round from the standard rifle used by the German infantry in WWII would take approximately 0.626 seconds to go from the end of the muzzle to the center of you forehead. Having said that, I enjoyed the video and guns are "fun" in a non combat context but that context should never be forgotten, Luv your stuff.

    www.rifleman.org.uk/Enfield_Rifle_Grenades_and_Dischargers.html
These were also used in the Great War.
You will see that this is based on a Lee Enfield SMLE Mk 3 or 3*, the standard British rifles of the Great War. If you look at the data on the right hand side of the stock, behind the breech, you will see rifle data including the exact variant and date of production. More clues that it is a Mk 3 is it having the leaf site on the top cover and not the aperture sight on the WW2 variant and the barrel ends very close to the end of the stock.
For more details in TH-cam, see the C&Rsenal series on the Lee Enfield or search Forgotten Weapons.

You're not wrong about it being used in WWII, but the grenade cup was adopted in 1917 and that pattern of rifle was also in British service during the first world war. Forgotten Weapons has a good video on them.

Maybe a baseball would have worked a little better due to it being heavier?

Так что по татуировке я понял, что ты либо усыновленный, либо один из твоих детей. Это довольно круто. 'УСЫНОВЛЕН' is obviously what I am referring to да?

My children. Also, it's a reference to Galatians 4:4-5 in the Bible in that we are spiritual outsiders until God adopts us into his family.

@@TheHistoryUnderground My former spouse is a Russian Doctor and I adopted her two from her previous marriage. I've spent considerable time in the Russian Federation although it was the CCCP when I first traveled there. Anyway, that's a very cool homage to your progeny. Well done.

That’s an awesome gun. Wish I had it. But I have to say that is not a WW2 gun. That’s a No.1 Lee Enfield. It’s a WW1 rifle. It was still around I’m sure. But the British moved to the No.4 Lee Enfield in WW2.

    • @TheHistoryUnderground

It's the Russian word for "adopted". It has some personal meaning and also refers to Galatians 4:4-5 in the Bible where it talks about how God take spiritual outsiders and adopts them into his family.

Ake a video with a M1 Garand and an M9 grenade launcher...or a 1903A1 with the M7 launcher... which is next to impossible to get or afford.....btw...why not load the SMLE magazine with 10rds?? As well, the reinforcement of the stock of the Mk III, is actually a WW1 reinforcement use.....

Giggling like a child while playing with a WEAPON OF WAR. I will never understand the American fetish with guns. Thank you, but I believe that prefer to live here in Britain where we don't have to worry about a maniac and his guns.

As the world's leading exporter of independence days, I would have thought that the British would know better than most the value of well armed citizenry as a deterrent to tyrannical governments. 🤷🏻‍♂️
