WD 40 does prevent rust but it has to thoroughly removed before you can reblue but In sure you know that. Hot water rinse and towel dry is what I do then reblue. I just don’t remove old blue until I’m ready to reblue.

Chances are your two guns are not blued to begin with . You said your 1911 is made of stainless steel. If it is "black" over that SS then it is either gunkoted or some sort of cerokote. You mentioned a 922 revolver. Is it the H&R 922 or the Taurus 992? If you have a Taurus, yours might be made of titanium and also not blued.

The barrel came off with metal polish cream and a rag after soaking in vinegar. I started the project but never finished. It's on my list.

Also, is it requred to fully submerge a part? can it be enough to simply drench a piece of cloth with the acid and wipe it over the helmet? Would that work? I'm not experienced in this sort of stuff but I have a RIA 1911 GI, If I were to remove the finnish and keep it the way it is after I'm done would I need to do anything to it like keep it coated in something?
@@lorenzodemedici2299 It's simple, you care for it like any other gun and keep the finish lightly oiled like you would a blued gun. Gun bluing both inhibits rust and helps hold oil on the surface further inhibiting rust... which is why most steel guns are blued. The difference is that you'll have to be a little more diligent in keeping the gun oiled and carefully watch for rust to start forming because it will be more prone to it.

The concentrations definitely vary though, I get a 34% solution at the local pool store that I’ll dilute to suit the job. Do you do any bluing and what do you use, nitre?

Muriatic acid is a compound of hydrochloric acids found in volcanoes and mammals stomachs. Also, sold in most local home improvement stores. You need to add oil to the surface of the metal to prevent it from flash rusting.

This removes bluing. Removing chrome is another entirely different process.

Didn’t work on a springfield 1911. Left it in for 2 hours checking every 30 mins didnt do a thing to the blueing

It was removed in order to gunsmith and refinish the gun.

No, because There's no advantage to your suggestion....and now you have a cloth rag to deal with. Just dip it in the acid, neutralize, rinse, oil.

Do not use on aluminum it will start to eat the aluminium fairly quick

Just get a gallon of Muriatic, any percentage, at the hardware store and use it straight out of the bottle. it's all explained in the video.

It works on removing bluing. if the item you have in question is matt blue, then that's because the metal isn't highly polished.
