Great video man! I got a buddy who plays the VG and gets a lot of wins using it. We play tomorrow so now I have some ammo for my arsenal!

At 16:50 you only asume the Q swap by White (9Qe4). There is also an important gambit try by White, thus 9Be3 when if ...Qc2 10Ne2 Qb2 11 0-0 Qb5?! 12 Qf7+ Kd8 13 Nd4! Nd4 (nothing else is any better) 14Bg5+ winning. The line 5d3 by WHite is also tricky and needs to be known well by Black, especially the downsides for Black of playing the tempting, but dubious (for Black) 5...Qh4+ 6g3 Ng3 7 Nf3 etc.

Oo, I was just looking at this line yesterday for black and today this video popped up on my recommended!
Sometimes the algorithm is spot on.
Always a delight to watch Alex's videos. 😊
    Please keep them coming sir!

Hey Jan - thanks for the positive comments, not just this one but the others you wrote. Always enjoy reading that people are enjoying the content. I haven't posted in a while and that will likely stay that way until at least February as I am having some medical issues with my voice. Not sure what's going on but I'm on the waiting list for an ENT doctor who may be able to diagnose the issue. Right now I'm recording my first Chessable course so whenever my voice is not too bad, I dedicate the recording time to this project. But hopefully it won't be something too serious and if I can sort this issue out then I look forward to making more videos. In the meantime, hope you enjoy the current content, cheers.

@@alexastaneh Hi Alex! Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to comments, it's really appreciated.
So sorry to hear about your current medical issue. I hope you aren't experiencing any discomfort beyond the problem with your voice and that you'll be able to get it sorted soon. What bitter irony that one of the most well-spoken chess coaches I've come across should suffer such a problem. 😔
I'm delighted to hear that you are working on your first Chessable course - good luck! An introduction to the Grunfeld Defence, right? Interesting! I hope the project is going well and that it'll be a success. You definitely deserve a larger viewership!
I'm glad that you're still active on your TH-cam channel despite being unable to post new videos recently and hope you'll be able to produce more soon. I'm particularly looking forward to the "best defence to d4" video as the e4 one was great and I think it's a promising start for a possible mini-series! 😏
Incidentally, I just found your channel recently but I read in another TH-cam comments section that you made several highly-regarded videos in the past which are now private; I'd just like to say that it'd be fantastic if you were to make them available to view again, especially if you may be unable to make new videos for a while. Even if you consider them to be inferior to your more recent work, that's not saying much and I - and I'm sure lots of other people - would like to see more of your content! 😊
      Best wishes, Jan

Thanks for the kind words again...yeah hopefully this will prove only a temporary issue. I'm not sure though, it's been a problem for a few years now, the issue is it's just gotten a lot more intense lately. I think it may have something to do with straining my vocal cords, maybe some dysfunction with my speech patterns. I'm hoping that, if it is that, I can find someone (speech pathologist?) that I can retrain with. Will know more once I see the specialist and will take things from there, but hopefully nothing too serious.
Regarding the Chessable course, yes indeed it'll be on the Grunfeld - let's see how it goes! Would be great to make more content on Chessable as I enjoy the process.
Regarding the old videos, the ones that people request are my older opening series vids. To that end, I've made this google doc: docs.google.com/document/d/1jqrJxF8hw2-qvRzpzSn-a-CiXCy21_YmPx-vvdDLQkk/edit?usp=sharing
There you will find the unlisted vids - it's not a large selection but perhaps you'll find some of them useful.
      See you around!

16:47 why do we assume white won’t capture the knight with the b pawn instead? This reserves d4 making a nice central pawn chain. How should black play against that continuation?

There is also on move 8) Nxe4 white N on c3 takes bcs it’s no longer pinned. Quickly changes it all. Plus there is a check on move 8 Bb5. Anyone have ideas on the night trade?

I play the Vienna as white but as black I face it less than 5% of the time, for some reason people just don't play it 😂

Hey man. I've been working on my upcoming chessable course (on positional chess) and it's been taking up all of my time over the past few months, so the channel is dormant at least until that's done. After it's finished I'll think about it, for now I'd like to get back into uploading but it's just a hobby so not 100%...we'll see!

Alex, you should have a look at my game Liu-O'Connor from the recent Irish Championship. My young opponent played an interesting piece sac that I didn't accept. Also, my friend, German IM Georg Seul, is probably the world's expert on the 5.Qf3 line for white. He even beat Timman in a Bundesliga game about 5 years ago.
