I am close to 80 and had no idea how to change my filter. Had to ask for help every time. Then I saw this video and I know it sounds strange, but you made it easy for me to become more independent. I changed my filter all by myself and I feel GREAT!!!!!!
Thank you! We have this exact fridge and my husband has been telling me for 2 YEARS that our filter was jammed and couldn’t be removed and that our ice maker was broken. Nope. Finally looked and found this, removed the old and installed a new filter and saw that he had somehow turned the ice maker off (discovered this when I updated the filter setting). Finally, ice after 2 years.
Thank you. I have been trying for a year to undo the blue bypass piece & didn’t want to break it. After watching your video & breaking my thumb nail, I got a pair of regular pliers out & managed to get the piece out so I could get the new filter that came with the refrigerator in (Everdrop #4). Your video saved me a service call, and as a retired female on a budget, I certainly appreciate you & all the details you shared. I left the bypass blue cap in the refrigerator door so it doesn’t get lost. I did the 3 second reset too. This line is connected to an RO filtration under the kitchen sink so this is extra cleaning of the water now.
Excellent explanation on how to replace this filter! Why Whirlpool didn't include basic instructions on how to do this in their User's Manual is beyond me. Perhaps they want you to call a Service Tech and drop another $100 on a service call.
My husband tried to replace the filer several times but left it out on the counter cause he couldn't do it. I watched your video and I did it in no time flat. I needed a step stool because I am short but it worked. Great directions and thank you. Now I need to know how to work my double oven.😅
My water got really, really slow on my WP. Check the water supply, tapped the solenoid ( and wife said to change the water filter). So, changed the water filter and all was well. Thank your wife!!!
The video was very helpful, showing how the filter is supposed to come out ad how to replace it. HOWEVER, on my refrigerator I had two problems. First, the filter did not drop down to get my hands on it. I used a small flat head screwdriver to lever it down. Be careful here so as not to break any of the other plastic parts. After it came down, I could not get it to turn counter clockwise. My fingers were not strong enough. So I got a small pipe wrench that opened up enough to grab hold of the filter. Before doing this, my wife took out the shelf below, so I would not break anything. Got a hold of filter with pipe wrench, and turned gently counterclockwise. It came out. FINALLY!. Putting it he new one was easy after following the directions in the video. After install, the new filter went up into the space above very easily and I was able to close the cover. I think that the initial install by the fellows from the store somehow cross threaded it partially on but not too far -- making it longer that it should be and reason why filter did not drop down as it should after cover is released, Hopes this helps someone. I found that it stuck up there as the door swung open. You can grasp the filter more towards the base. One thing I wished the filter would do is that as it twists into place, is make a clicking noise to indicate it's on and ready.
Hey anybody….inwas looking at this fridge today. When you change this filter do you have e to turn the water line off like my current one? Really sucks to pull the fridge out every time.
Excellent video. I was lost as to how to change this filter, since the instructions gave no indication that the filter itself is on a spring that allows you to drop it away from the roof of the refrigerator. Without this knowledge, it is impossible to turn the filter to attach or detach it. Thanks!!
Hey. Thanks, man. It's nice having a video for my exact fridge so I don't break anything. I didn't even think to look at the ceiling at first, I just assumed they were all on the front.
Easiest VIDEO 📹 I have used.. just got my fridge in December and needed to change filter. Instructions said to drain water from water dispenser for 2 minutes ??? To let air out.?? That seemed wasteless!!! So I watched your video and you made it so simple. Thanks for sharing how to install the filter man. I am handicap and it was hard for me to twist but your video GAVE me confidence because you said exactly how to do IT and do it right ✅ and simple. So grateful and i love when I need help I can find a video on utube 😊😇😊😇😊😇
250,000 views because Whirlpool/KitchenAide could not print a silly arrow on the pypass cap or put a 0.01cent sticker inside the cover. Great vid, thanks!
Thanks for the video! it's not completely obvious that you just need to pull the damn filter down and twist after opening the cover. So this is helpful!
Thanks very much for posting this! We needed to change the filter for the first time, the instructions in the manual seem to be for a different/earlier model and don't make any sense, and our filter was really jammed in and I feared I would break something doing it wrong. Thanks to your video we got it changed out. Thanks!
Installed perfectly as per the video but that carbon or whatever sediment is still dispensing cloudy water after running dozens of ounces through. Just hoping it clears up over more uses
I had the same thing happen; I was trying to remove the old filter to get the # off of it to order correct replacement. I quickly put the old filter back in since I didn’t have the replacement. Have new filter and will attempt again after turning water off first.
The water filter has a cover I have to take off before I can do this. It wont turn at all and I am going counter clockwise. I'm afraid I might break it off. Does it break easily?
One item that I would add is the reattachment of the drop-down plastic cover (clamshell). After the filter is changed, pushing the plastic (clamshell) cover towards the ceiling of the refrigerator does not always snap into a fully seated position. However, if I slightly compressed the plastic dog retainer (pinched) as I pushed upward, that allowed the clamshell to get into a proper closed position. When I released the dog mechanism, it snapped into the correct closed position. It is the reverse of opening the clamshell cover.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! I tried replacing the filter, and I done it once before, but this time around an excessive amount of water leaked, full force like a hose. I was unable to change it because as soon as I twisted it off to remove the water goes everywhere. What’s happening? This didn’t happens the first time.
Who else totally forgot how to change the water filter. Even though, we have seen this video before, we still had to come back to this video to remember how it’s done 😆
THE DIRECTIONS WERE EASY TO COMPREHEND, BUT THE FILTER WAS IN SO TIGHT I COULD NOT GET IT OUT, MY HUSBAND HAD TO DO IT. WHY ARE THEY SO HARD TO GET OUT? PUTTING THE NEW ONE BACK IN WAS SUPER EASY. THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIAL...
Im a woman in my 60s (no husband) Whirlpool makes this so I literally can’t turn it without a LOT of force, to remove the old filter! This in turn, causes the drop down door to pop off of the housing,. To avoid ripping off the whoIe connector, I have to try to hold the door and twist the filter counter clockwise all while standing on a chair to reach it! After 5 years of this, the hinge finally cracked off, so now I have to hold it shut with duct tape! This force is only needed to remove the filter. Installing the new one goes in easy. I remember when whirlpool had quality -now they’re cheap plastic junk. My whirlpool dishwasher computer panel died 3 1/2 years after I bought it, and of course it was out of warranty so now I’m stuck with a broken dishwasher that I’ve only used about 10 times. The repair guy said it would cost more to fix it than to just buy a new one. . Once this refrigerator goes, that’s gonna be my last whirlpool product. Sad thing is, I’m not sure there’s ANY appliance brand out there, that’s worth a crap. My dad bought high end WOLF appliances, and has problems, also!
My experience is that Whirlpool plastics are very thin. The Freezer walls have cracked open also. Plastic doors keeps breaking also. My current fridge is the Samsung one and it's plastic is better.
I replaced my filter but my water dispenser sounds weird. Like there is still air in there or something. I checked the filter and it’s on tight. Would that be the issue? It wasn’t making that noise with the old filter
Yes, there will be air on the system and it's normal. Probably best to also run the water from a few gallons before drinking and get the air out of the system at the same time.
I love these TH-cam directions! My wife thinks I'm a genius!!
Amen
I'll never admit to anyone I couldn't figure this out by myself buy yeah my wife thinks I'm essential now.

How did you remove the old one??? It’s so tight, takes all my strength to get it out!
@@carolynstovall9753did you try running the water for a few seconds before unscrewing it? Pressure buildup may increase the force on the filter.

Much easier than reading the manual, thanks!!!
The manual would have been a waste of your time. I went there first.
Thank you. I could not figure out how to replace this and was afraid I was going to break it.
Jaynine Howard me too I had twist it really hard
Oh Yay! This really helped me change my filter. The instructions in the manual are poor.Thank you so much!!
Thanks you made me look like hero now, wife is happy now.
Thank you. Again. Every time I replace. Lol. I have to go to OPTIONS and then FILTER RESET on my Whirlpool. Purchased new in 2020.
You're welcome!

What is the model of filter? I just moved into my house and there was no filter in it
For this fridge, it's EveryDrop by Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter 4 (UKF8001) - Capacity 200 Gallons. Details in description.

Do you have to turn off the water supply to the fridge, or does it have some kind of backflow valve?
Well, it doesn't hurt to turn it off. For my place, it doesn't have one.
Yeah that was my question too.
Thank you! Very helpful in 2020 for me ☺️

There will be a filter alert on the info panel once you open the right slide door

Quick question, does this model have an air filter?
Nope
Thank you. I was worried I’m might break it😅

Thanks but I'm curious - this was a brand new fridge and there was water in it?
Once you plug in the water hose, there will be water supposedly in the unit.

Mine was stuck do i need to turn off anything at the back like the water connection or just go straight in the filter to change it?thanks
I didn't turn off water but it's probably safer to do so. It's very tight turn for the screw if the threads are misaligned.
I have done this about 6 times still no water or ice…. Very annoying….help?
Check the water line for kinks?

I didn’t need to do that. Some people like to turn off the water off the whole home before changing it.
Thank you! Very helpful :)
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, for helping me.
I have a new fridge...my husband is very strong and he can NOT get the bypass to turn so we can remove. He disent want to break it...and advise?
