Great memories, thanks. Was at the corner that Dai lost it in his 6R4, a series of bumps that the car was out of sync with so that the wheels were off the ground when it should have been braking! After the stage finished, he stood at the exit from the field he'd ended up in, taking back broken bits of bodywork and trim off us that we'd picked up as souvenirs:)
"Roger, do you have that music ready? "Yes boss!" "Is it something suitable or have you chosen weird electro-folk again?" "...it's suitable I promise." "..." "..." "...FFS!!!"
Fantastic Group B footage, despite the woeful 'Oirish' music. Sincerely hope the producer was reprimanded for such a gross lapse of judgement 😂 Great upload, thanks so much!
Shame the Metro never came to much in the WRC. It’s V6 engine was it’s Achilles heal, poor reliability and not enough bhp. It made sense to go the naturally aspirated route in 82/83 when they began development as turbo lag was still a problem. But by the time the car debuted in late 85. Audi, Peugeot and definitely Lancia had pretty much eliminated turbo lag.
@@egykilenckilenchet The Peugeot used a DPV to keep the turbo spinning from 1985 season onwards which was used on the Renault Formula 1 cars at the time. The Audi had turbo lag in its early years but by the time the 6R4 was rallying they had the umluft system.
People tend to forget that an engine running a big cam also has lag. The cam doesn’t tend to work from low rpm, especially in a high rpm 4 cylinder. Keeping on cam and keeping on boost pose much the same issues.
I was going to have a massive go at the...should I call it music?...ok, I'll call it "music", but on reflection, if instead, it was simply the sound of the actual cars and no "music", this film would have been so far beyond awesomely brilliant, many of us wouldn't have wanted to return to modern life. So I say thank goodness we had the "music" to give us all a reason not to watch this on permanent repeat. Thanks for uploading!
ok, safety, etc yawn! FISA messed way too much with old school rallying and drivers, the focus should have been on spectators safety and leave the cars alone, the great tony pond said I'm not prepared to drive at 100+ mph through a tunnel of people, at 54 I'm lucky I had a chance to see all the group B monsters and the great drivers.
I like your information of these video's. It's very usefull to know who was the video pruducer or tv channels who broadcast it. Impressive video-stuff you have. Thank you very much fot your fantistic work for bringing back these sweet memories when rally was still maybe the most exciting sport in the world. Today rallysport is much changed....
Thanks for the positive feedback. The reason for the channel - and the Twitter account, @vhsrallies - is to hopefully spread the word so people who also have tapes up in their attic or boxed in the garage get them out, send the across to me and get them saved. VHS tapes perish through time and in some cases, we must be down to single-digit numbers of tapes of some of these recordings remaining.

15.30ish is on the Ballyreagh stage - was used in circuit 2003 at the same spot.
So nice to see an interview with one of the greatest "unknown" Finnish rally legends, Pentti Airikkala!
theres something about that tune thats really pleasurable to listen too, its a happy tune.

It's all relative, I'd say. Certainly by the time the Metro came along, the turbo teams were getting their heads around lag to some extent.

@@egykilenckilenchet capacity wasn't mentioned, nor was compression timing or overlap, so not necessarily.
egykilenckilenchet in that case, yes. I was just speaking generally about race engines of similar capacity. Apologies for the crossed wires.
Such chilled dudes

Love the music in this one 👌
John Shev What’s that? Mike Oldfied on something?
Respect to you for admitting to that in public.
John Shev Sounds like it was performed on a ZX Spectrum
Rally enthusiasts won’t want to hear cars at full chat lets overlay some shit music for them
A rover running and moving, BL would have been upset at that.
I don't know what it is but the english are way better at putting up old videos of stuff up to youtube . Keep it up !
I'll try.
OMG, that soundtrack is hilarious🔝🔝😎😎
There's a marked difference between how winners talk and how every other competitor talks
Great vid ,loved it 😁😁😁👍👍👍
The best sounds from the group B Metro V6 😍😍rally cars 🚙 🇬🇧🔥🦾🦾🦾⚙️🦾🦾🦾🔥🔊🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵😇😇

19 year old, what year was that Stephen?
The Rally was Ruined by "bogy times"..made absolutely no sence..it ruined the rally and did not make it safer ever..😠
Not easy to get hold of the sports seen releases now. Shame
Some of them (but not this one) are available as digital downloads via Duke.
👍🏁
Can anyone identify the cars at
7:32-7:37
Dave Appleby in the Rover SD1.
Talbot Sunbeams the small RWD hatch backs.
Do you do any enhancing to the video before you upload them?
Yes, I try my best. Of course, the original format is VHS PAL so there are a limited number of pixels to play with.
Can you also upload the 1986 Manx part ?
It's coming soon. :)
