This Liverpool team 87/88 were quite phenomenal in my opinion. I will always maintain that they would have won the European cup the following season if it were not for the ban. The 85/86 team were also light years ahead of anyone else in the the top flight back then.

Speaking as a long suffering Spurs fan(with 2 older Brothers who back United) this was Football!
.Liverpool were the dominant force&Man U were a massive Org trying to rediscover their Glory days!
.But the quality of football, passion, commitment, atmosphere made for a fantastic spectacle for the fans.
it was alike "Saturday Religion"as opposed to today's sterile pretentious "Reality TV" football!.
So full respect👍🎄☘️ to all of those old "Manc".and "Scouser" fans out there!👍

Was at this terrific game and in the previous seven seasons Utd had remained unbeaten at Anfield in the league so when Liverpool went 3-1 up in the second half and playing against ten men I felt this had to be the day that run came to an end but Utd were Liverpools bogey side since the cup final of 77 and came back it was the beginning of that Fergie never give up attitude just look at the first Utd goal when the ball was crossed into the box there was three United attackers and no Liverpool defenders

The best was Strachan celebrating in front of the most knowledgeable- fair minded supporters in the country. Great performance from Utd second half. What a talent Olsen was - just too inconsistent. Fergie still had another five years from this to get it right. Can you imagine Ten Hag getting nearly seven years to win the title?

We couldn't do much with United during this era and they always raised their game for matches against us. So much so that they'd risk Bryan Robson and on a few occasions, he'd get injured.
The only saving grace was that we won a few pots at this time.
Should've done the double this year but got bullied by Wimbledon in the cup final.

Putting blame to one side, the 88-90 sides i believe would have won the European cup at least once of those 3 seasons. Now if hillsborough didnt happen, the 89 League never goes to down to the crazy 5 games in 11 days or whatever it was. Arsenals Anfield 89 was magnificent for them yes but it was a crazy decision to hold the biggest game of the season on a Friday evening following the Tuesday night match Between Liverpool and West Ham. Before that it was a crammed few games in a week also. They could of easily held it the following day.

Yes and no. Souness did get rid of players who had a lot more to give but there were just as many background machinations and then the foreigner/assimilated players rule that had more of a factor to play in my opinion. I'm a United fan and was delighted to see them fall from that perch, but Liverpool fans could give you a better insight into exactly what, when, how and why but it wasn't solely down to the manager.
