Gotta point out your TFS reactions don't have to stop at the epilogue, there is still plenty of DBZ abridged material left after such as the Shorts, HFIL series, and Buu Bits. Here's hoping you don't miss those.
29:40 they're not funny BECAUSE you don't know. This is why the actual creators have said multiple times that you shouldn't watch their parody as a replacement for the actual show.
A lot of DBZA's humor indeed relies on hindsight from having watched the original. The original is what provides the context for the jokes, otherwise those jokes become mere statements with no punchline, because the punchline comes from that hindsight. When I first watched DBZA, the times when I laughed the hardest was when they poked fun at some sort of plot hole, or ridiculous logic or judgment call from the original, that I had been joking about with friends for years. It's the way in which TFS takes those ideas, and mocks them that makes the humor work. For example, I bust a gut when Semi-Perfect Cell remarked about Tien turning triangles into squares. Not because the line itself was funny, but because I'd been asking that same question myself for over a decade.
I know too many people who really have no interest in shows like DBZ, or anime in general- but the streamlined framing and comedic factor of Abridged makes it more digestible for them and they end up enjoying it for what it is. Few occasions, it actually made them go watch the OG series. Not discrediting your point. Just saying that for many people, it's either this or nothing at all
No, they're not funny because they're talking over the jokes, the set ups, the punchlines, the call backs, everything Plenty on reactors have never watched DBZ and they get the jokes because they listen to the show instead of talking over it and making their own jokes
yep, HIFL takes place after DBZA's Epilogue. The Buu Bits would then be after HIFL or concurrently, it's not a series after all just clips. Dragon Shorts I guess are a slice of life on Earth while HIFL is the afterlife but both taking place after DBZA. They're also an original animation and story.
You pretty much covered the story minus the fluff, i.e. filler episodes. But the actual anime is where it’s at dialogue wise particularly the last few episodes of the Cell games arc. (Z not Kai personal preference since that’s what I grew up with)
It's crazy looking back at this series. I thought it was the funniest thing ever as a teen, but in hindsight, it's definitely a product of its time, and lacks the timeless feel that OG Dragon Ball Z has
This has been a great adventure. Before you do the Buu saga please remember there's a DBZ Movie before it: Bojack Unbound! Can't wait to change to the real show
@nm2358 I just want them to watch it for entertainment because I like the movie 🤷🏾♂️ But I realize now they are already onto the Buu saga on Patreon anyway.
While I think DBZ:A is the best DB series, I always suggest watching the Cell beam fight from the original dub. The drama and payoff are perfect. They really make it feel like all hope is lost.
The jokes may hit better if you actually listen to them, especially since a lot of the jokes are call backs, if you don't listen the first time, you definitely won't get it the next time its brought up.
It's actually crazy how many people think goku is a bad father or that piccolo was more of a father to gohan than he was because of abridged I love abridged it's funny asf but u gotta watch and understand dragon ball in order to watch abridged too many people watch abridged and think this is what actual dragon ball is like
The main issue with the relationship between Goku and Gohan is because of everything we don't see. Even in the original show, we see so little of the relationship between Goku and Gohan outside of fighting, that it comes off as Goku being a bad parent to anybody who isn't paying attention. People like to pretend that the show represents the entire lives of these characters, and that times like the years before Raditz showed up simply never existed. AKA, the times when Goku would actually have been being a proper parent, because of enjoying times of peace. As for Piccolo, aside from saving Gohan's life several times (99% of which were from the movies, so it's arguable if they even count), the relationship between them never really felt like that of a father and a son in the actual show. Piccolo has always been more like an uncle, who steps up to mentor a child when said child's father isn't around.
Poll’s ended i’m sure, so you’ve probably already decided, but the “Buu Bits” are more or less the final conclusion of DBZA. TeamFourStar was tired of dealing with copyright issues, and were creatively burnt out (by the end of 60, they were putting in an unsustainable amount of time and creative effort), so they quit doing DBZA. Until last year, where the youtuber TotallyNotMark, known for his in depth anime reviews, was finally reviewing DBZ. He approached TesmFourStar about doing one or two skits/scenes from the Buu saga for his video, maybe a moment or two they always wanted to do but never got the chance. And they ended up making a BUNCH of scenes. The Buu Bits are short, disconnected scenes made FOR Mark’s reviews, so they don’t have any exposition, any setup, or any explanation of the plot; you’re meant to already have seen the Buu Saga, or be watching in context of Mark’s video to know what’s happening. After Mark’s videos, TFS posted the Buu Bits in compilation form as an easier way to watch them. (Note: the comps have a weird edit where the frame slowly moves, this was done to avoid those copyright issues I mentioned before. It annoys some people, but I was able to ignore it). So, basically you gotta watch the Buu Saga first. And go for the Kai version. DBZ Kai was the sort of remaster/rerelease of DBZ where they cut out the anime filler, and changed the dialogue to make it more faithful to what it was in the manga. OG DBZ had 291 episodes, and Kai cut it down to 167. Buu Saga was 191 of those episodes, and the Kai version is only 68 😂 Trust me, DBZ is fantastic, but the original absolutely DRAAAAGS at points. Kai is a blessing.
The other reason why the Buu bits frame slides across the screen is because the footage tfs used is standard def (4×3), while Mark's video is hi def (16×9)
3:55 Actually that was a very smart play by Goku. Had he not gave that senzu bean earlier Cell would have felt cornered by a fresh Gohan beating due to his lack of stamina which could lead to cell doing a self destruct earlier than expected which will lead to Goku doing the sacrifice which leads to Super Perfect Cell which is the worst case scenario now cause Gohan didn’t get the pep talk this time cause he was strong enough to beat a worn down cell so no cell jrs and no Dragon team getting beaten which means no need for 16 to attempt self destruct as well thus Gohan does not gain Super Saiyan 2 as an end result. So we would have a now scared Gohan at super saiyan versus an even more powerful Perfect Cell without Super Saiyan 2 which leads to cell winning. Literally Goku giving the Senzu bean saved them all. Goku may have said he gave it to Cell out of sportsmanship but it truly was to counter a potential drastic decision from Cell cause of Frieza’s genes which Goku remembers, Frieza in a fit of rage tried to plow up Namek cause he was losing. Goku may not know exactly what Cell is gonna do but he does know if Cell is cornered and does something Frieza might do before Gohan gets a chance to unlock his hidden power they will indeed loose.
Well, Goku’s main goal was to push Gohan into unleashing his hidden power. He hadn't anticipated anything else, such as Cell going nuclear, Cell creating the Cell Jrs, or Gohan going mad with power. It was a pretty huge gamble to make since everyone nearly got killed.
Too bad abridged didn’t cover the Majin buu saga lol Buu was a savage, check out Cj dachamp majin Buu the ultimate menace, it’s pretty much a short recap of the saga
Dont forget this was a parody and the dialogue and personnality are more serious than this, most of their joke wasnt that funny even for me who know dbz since child dont worry lol,too much s*x jokes dont work...their are alot of things they didnt show...seeing a parody before the actual anime...give a false Idea of what it is but i appreciate ur reactions all along
Because they enjoy it? It’s clearly not just “silly trash” if a lot of people like to watch it. I do agree though, they should watch the actual series sometime
I imagine Trunks was gonna go to heaven, but King Yemma was taking forever talking about his desk made of _mahogany!_

Don’t forget the epilogue and stuff! It’s been fun though!
Epilogue, DBZA Shorts, HFIL series, AND Buu bits. There is still plenty of DBZA material to react to.
Cell Vs shorts
Goku's goodbye speech to Gohan and at the very end is a message from TFS to all their followers regarding the end of DBZA
12:11 The way they keep predicting these jokes
Loved this series, glad you guys loved it too - it’s been a great watch along - such a Shame TeamFourStar didn’t do a proper Buu Saga
Given the tfs burnout and given Akira wanted to end it with Cell saga, Cell saga will always be the best saga in my opinion
@@servie97I’m glad TFS got a chance to end the series on their terms. But Toriyama didn’t intend on ending the series at Cell.
5:03 this is a reference to future gohan. That same gohan had lost his arm saving trunks, and later on was down an arm and killed by androids.
Good job guys, helped me kill alot of time with these reactions 👌🏾
As a kid I alllwaays HATED THAT satan took credit for the win but I guess GoHan gets with his daughter later so it all evens out
Satan also pays Goku a huge amount of money for handling Kid Buu (about 100 million), so it all works out in the end.
@@Swaggernaut_XWhich is funny because that time they actually did need Hercule.
Slow down ladies! Y'all still have to watch the Buu saga shorts TFS made! It's not over yet lol
They’re way ahead on patreon don’t worry lmao
The best thing about watching newbies react to this series is seeing their love of the series grow along the characters. Great reaction!
Sword Art Online Abridged hit the ground Sprinting with an Olympic touch.
Worth a watch.
original is still burning.
Tien is a God dam role model
It’s crazy how this was gonna be the ending of DBZ
Piccolo is on like 5 or 6 years older than Gohan so he’s more of a big brother to Gohan
Gotta point out your TFS reactions don't have to stop at the epilogue, there is still plenty of DBZ abridged material left after such as the Shorts, HFIL series, and Buu Bits. Here's hoping you don't miss those.
They need to see buu saga before buu bits
The end 🎉🎉🎉🎉 what a journey
Man it took me forever to notice krillin never had a nose 😂
Don’t forget DBZ Kai Abridged 1,2 & 3
29:40 they're not funny BECAUSE you don't know. This is why the actual creators have said multiple times that you shouldn't watch their parody as a replacement for the actual show.
Exactly, so many jokes going over their head. Even if you watch the series you'll miss out on many jokes unless you're a mega invested fan

Buu bits, HIFL, Dragon Shorts and what have you

It's crazy looking back at this series. I thought it was the funniest thing ever as a teen, but in hindsight, it's definitely a product of its time, and lacks the timeless feel that OG Dragon Ball Z has

Yamcha having soft hands.
Is that a masturbation joke? He uses a lot of hand lotion because he's single?
He doesn't train often or hard, so he doesn't have the callouses associated with a fighter's hands.
