    For those who would like to know more about Anglish, it is English with only Germanic words.
    It tries to take out any loan words (Foreign) so any French, Spanish, Latin, Greek and so on are gone and are swapped out for a word we had for it before.
    Most of English has had its wordstock (vocabulary) filled with loan words, sometimes bringing in its speechcraft (grammar) with it.
    For many of the everyday words however, we kept the Germanic words which is why you will often see everyday English when playing in Anglish.
    To help you understand how much of our Germanic words live on, I have spoken only in Anglish with any odd words having an oversetting (translation) put in a sinwelt (round) [bracket] and the words without a Germanic word were put in a fouredge (square) [bracket]
    Wood is older than Old English and same goes for Axe.
    If you wonder if Anglish and Old English the same, the answer is no.
    Anglish will not abide by Old English laws, it is more like new English if the Norman onslaught of the 11th yearhundred (century) did not happen.
    We lost much of our speechcraft (grammar) laws by the time of middle English and while Anglish will often bring back words, it does not undo much else...otherwise you would be learning Old English, not Anglish.
    If you are wondering "How do I learn Anglish?" then the answer is to search "roots English" on Google and there is a wordbook (Dictionary) for all to read, there is also a Discord to talk to others.
    What I found most helpful is to look up the roots of any word I want to say and see if it has had any sway (influence) from other tungs, if it does then find another word of the same meaning and if nothing else works, go to the wordbook (dictionary) to see if they have something.
    If even that does not work, you can try making your own word up as is often done in Anglish.
    If you think that all of this is silly...that's fair, I only do it because I like learning about tungs so hearing what we might have said is gripping.
    Sorry for the long comment and thanks for reading.

      Soothly said. I think that othertunglywords can be kept for science and engineering, but for commonwords we should brook Theedishrooted words. I wite (or know) that this writ is old, but those are my thoughts.

      @@mistakenmeme While I think that Anglish is overall a fun shift, I don't think that I would truthfully back up Anglish asetting true English. The faying of outlandish words to English is not soothly a bad thing, it's only how the tongue flowingly bloomed thanks to its eretide. There is no shame in that.

    This was brilliant! I didn't even know Minecraft had an Anglish option. I'll be switching my language to Anglish now. (Probably permanently) Thanks for posting this.

    "Are" is akin to "ore", from Proto-Germanic "aiz" ("copper", "bronze", or "ore"). "Aiz" was from Proto-Indo-European "h2eyos" meaning something like "copper" (The h2 represents a mystery consonant that was probably guttural).

    The term "log" as for raw wood is also at least Germanic(if not really native), why is it thrown away?

    • @chireiuji2047
      @chireiuji2047 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In contrast, the word "pike" is taken relatively late from Celtic languages.

    • @TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS
      @TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Likely saw "Log" was of "unknown roots" and then swapped it out with what we know is Anglish greenlit.
      Also, I do not know when but there was a big makeover to the Anglish oversetting so this might be from before that.
