You know Kappy, you can wear a mask during your explorations. It will not bother us at all. We prefer to see you healthy !!! Molds are very dangerous. Even if your voice changes because of wearing a mask, it does not matter. We will not be able to give you back a health. We want to keep you with us for a long time.
    Take care of yourself!!

Awesome video. It looks like the original house was all stone, then additions came. Door hardware is nice. I do like the different window mouldings that are peaked. Never seen that before. I like the two armoires that were in there, those look like there are from the 30s.

The stone portion is probably the oldest and the other parts added on later. Seems like most of the house is in good condition except the small ad on’s. Hopefully it can be saved. Great find.

I guess the 'usefulness' of a fireplace in every room, went by the wayside when more modern heating/cooking things became popular. The door removal next to the fireplace, may have been in an effort to close off unneeded rooms, and make it easier to heat more often used areas. Great video Kappy, I also hit the like button, before watching the video. I haven't been disappointed yet, I could always unlike it afterward... but never have!

Another house with a thousand stories to tell. And I just love houses with crazy add ons and doors to odd places. And the twisty little staircases. I gotta ask. When explorers comment on “the smell” am I the only weirdo that’s thinking what smell? Cats? Mold? Poop? Lol. Thanks for a fun unique explore. Almost feels like it was divided up for student apartments. Maybe it’s the books, the exercise equipment and the hodgepodge of furniture. Thanks again and be safe. ❤️

Susan Miller. This is a very early house. When settlers built their homes, they would very often start out with a log house or timber frame. As time went on, children came along and more money was accrued, they would build a main house. They would often plaster the log portion walls and frame or stucco the log part to ‘disguise’ the log portion. People wanted to display the fact that they were affluent and a log house certainly wasn’t a sign of affluence! The same thing happened when wood stoves came in to use in the 1870’s. A wood stove was a sign that you had money. The fireplaces would get filled in ( like the fireplace in my 1850’s stone house) and stuccoed over. The configuration of some old homes change over time. Heat loss was a big issue, consequently, a wall might go up or down to keep the heat more concentrated. The stone portion very well may have come after the other section. Cheers

Susan Miller l always hope that Kappy doesn’t say anything about odours. Commenting “This house stinks” to me is crude and so unnecessary. It’s also to me, an insult to the people who lived in the house. Very often rodents and raccoons get in and defecate. It’s so degrading to bring up odours and l wish he’d stop doing it. It’s also unprofessional!

    • @susanmiller4159

@@wendycrawford1792 I’ve watched hundreds of exploring videos. Kappy is by far one of the most gracious, respectful explorers out the. The odors are just part of the experience. Try walking into an attic full of buzzard poop or dead mice in the middle of summer in the humid south. It’s pretty bad. As a matter of fact it’s stinks. Kappy, don’t change, you’re doing a terrific job.

This place is amazing. Really cool find . Colonial style homes are beautiful. I’ve never seen the inside of an old Colonial. You could so much with it , it’s beautiful. Very much salvageable. Lots of work could make it look amazing, but it’s the money that you soak into it. The wiring gets expensive as well, substandard wiring in these old homes is quite common.

KAPPY, IS THAT AN ORB?? At 9:28 when you walk into the kitchen. It goes from the door to the light fixture then down to the right. I don’t think is a reflection from equipment because the camera is perfectly still and there’s no light source.

I just re-watched that at 9:28, and yes, it was an orb. I'm very familiar with them from exploring abandoned houses and taking photos there and in old cemetaries. They are mobile spirit "portals" that can shapeshift into other entities, which I've also caught on camera.

You can buy a N 95 mask at Lowe's for under $7. I have one in case I have a patient with tuberculosis. It will help with nasty smells, too. Not sure about talking with one. I think the original stone house was just the two rooms (one down, one up) and then the big center addition was added on and connected by the door next to the fireplace. Like others have noted, that original two room section was at some point made into a separate apartment with the poorly constructed bump-out bathroom and kitchen stuck onto the front (very unsightly!). An interesting detail I noticed was that upstairs, on the other side of the locked door that connected the "apartment" to the rest of the house, a number Nine hangs above the door. Lots of exercise equipment and books about ships and such make it look like a bunch of guys lived here--could it have been a frat house? I like those brown door knobs. Too bad we couldn't see the attic--since it was above the oldest part of the house, maybe something cool was up there.

Would buy it in a heart beat if i knew how and could afford to....would dry it in... board up any place open to outside that couldnt be fixed right away....clean out everything....then make sure the roof was fixed right away....and any falling down additions would be removed or rebuilt....then clame one solid part of the house to make liveable and work through one room at a time restoring it....

Nice doorknob, huh? Looks like somebody kicked a hole in the wall, but why the plywood? Strange. That is a very old thumb latch, for sure. Those books left to ruin make me sad, as always. Lots of nice antiques in that room. The highboy in the corner is solid cedar. The other one was just not worth much when it was new.
If you're in the older part of the house and I'm not sure where you are, that kitchen fireplace was once used for cooking. That door hardware was really old, Kappy. Maybe you'll check it out later.
I don't blame you on the attic, man, what you've been through is enough. Thanks for your perseverance and strong stomach!

I often wonder how certain things end up in the rooms that don’t belong. I’m sure it was squatters at one time of things got moved once people have left but it’s just weird to me. Great video!

I don't know why, but this house gave me the creeps! Kappy, what kind of vibe did you get from it? It was still a great explore as usual!

@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 ... Didn't you say that you would like to be an architect? How is that coming along? You'd be a kick ass architect! Maybe even an architectural historian! No matter what you do, I know you will be successful!

Funny you should say that, I thought that too and at 7.04, 7.05 there's what looks like an orb comes toward Kappy on the left hand side and changes shape. Is definitely not dust with the way the shape changes and the movement

Originally this was obviously a significant home but its most recent inhabitants clearly didn't respect that. Its almost as if the very fibres of the house are weeping. Kappy himself felt the affects of the conflicting vibes.

It looks like the house was divided into 2 apartments, which is why the original doorway into the next room became a closet.

Oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very old and was added on. WOW! Keep the stone house!!! History!!! Weird that the room is blocked off. I guess you have to go upstairs then come down the other stairs LOLOL. Not crazy about the interior decorating.

The "Thumb Latch" door hardware is original - some probably from Colonial times. Each one individually hand wrought by a blacksmith/latchmaker or in crude "factories" where they were made by hand as well. Before "Spring Latch" Doorknobs came to America (the invention/distribution of small springs was a game changer) lift-lever "Thump Latch" Handles were the standard. There is some very old and collectible hardware in that house.

I had a neighbor who owned a house with his sister. They had a fight and didn’t get along. They put walls in the house to split it in half. She lived on one side , him on the other. They couldn’t get to each other’s side without going outside and to the door on the other side.
    Maybe that’s what happened here.

What a shame it’s been let go. There aren’t that many frame houses of that vintage any more. Course, I’m sure the sone part is older, but still, can tell by door latches and hardware that frame part is old too.
Very indelicate, but was that an orange cat at the bottom of one of the bookcases?

If nobody else has said, that piece of furniture with drawers on one side and a space to hang clothes on the other, is called a "chifforobe". Also, the cooking fireplace in that kitchen is the most interesting part for a lot of us old house lovers. I can tell we have a generation gap here; you are drawn to the electronics, which are all last Tuesday for us older people.

Looks like the first section was sectioned off as a separate rental, hence the added on kitchen/bathroom.

The stone part of this house is the oldest, original built , look at the wooden hand sawed boards on the floor and the big fireplace. The rest been added years later
