  • How to get better at inline skating comes down to practice. I (Bill Stoppard) touch on Turning Drills. Backward Skating and One Footed Control. I also learned something very significant about my own skating, after over 25 years of ignorance!
Narrated with Bill Stoppard and LeadFoot Stacey.
Inline Skating shirts available at teespring.com/...
Bill Stoppard's inline skates are Adapt HyperSkate GTO from www.adaptbrand... or in Canada US www.proskatersp...

Remember the best inline skater will 'pad it out' when in doubt.

I just got my first pair of inline skates! My ankles are dead and all I can do is move slow but I'm excited to get better. I have a newfound respect for you skating abilities

first pair of inline skates is like a first sex: you don't feel yourself comfortable, you a a little bit ashamed of what you are doing and sometimes it can even end up with blood. And yep, never forget about the protection!

Stacey, aside from having a nice voice, is a great question-asker. I like having a non-skater perspective in the mix. While we skaters are looking at bearings and technical minutae it's sometimes nice to go back to basics and see things from beginners eyes. She would be a great partner to take along these otherwise solo productions IMO!

Thanks, Mr. Stoppard! I hope you realize that I left you the privilege of making that joke (as a Canadian). I am but a lowly Yank (who still cannot power-stop despite your superb tutorials).

@@ttcherrick For me, the power stop/slide didn't click until I figured out how to do it from fakie first. Get a little speed, transition to backwards, get low, arms in front for balance, and swing that sliding leg back behind the support leg's heel.
Now if only I could get the support leg into a magic slide...

    • @ttcherrick
      @ttcherrick 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks, +bromct, but unfortunately to me "fakie" translates to "backwards" and that's what I'm working on right now - with mixed results. I'll give your method a go when I'm more comfortable with "fakie". Funny how fakie on a snowboard or a skateboard is no problem, but on skates I'm petrified!

all you have to do to master powerslide is to repeat-repeat and repeat . 80-100 reps a day, and in a week you will be making it. I think even faster. It's actually very natural and simple move. start from "lazy" variation and just make it sharper (i've got complete breakdown of all powerslide types on my channel if you are interested)

Ooooh...is THAT why I do better on my left leg with one-legged maneuvers even though I'm right-side dominant? Good to know. Great video! And great to have Lead Foot Stacey back! :)

Super cool to learn how to turn. I still turn using a (v) turn using the left leg to go to the right and so on I haven't learnt how to naturally turn. Using the correct leg to go on any direction. Left to left right to right. I need to practice more...

Dood, you've inspired me to start up inline skating and today after loads of practicing during the summer I went out riding. I skated to class and around campus. Skated back to my dorm and I surprised myself with how well I did.
I was able to control my speed, slow down and speed up when I wanted, and I was quite agile even amongst the crowds of walking students and staff.
It wasn't until I got into the cafe that security made me take off my skates.
Any advice for going down hills though, I pretty much just walked in the grass for this big hill that I was just too nervous to go down.
