So creative! The pattern, the color choices, and those handles all came together SO well. Most people would think that this piece was way too far gone to even attempt fixing it and you nailed it! Thank you for saving this piece
Thank you Cory that means a lot. You are the queen of fixing pieces that no one else would touch, so I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement thanks.
Thanks Robyn. I’m so glad you think that. This piece invoked strong feelings in people…either they really liked it or really didn’t 😆 Even the lady who bought it her husband fell in the “REALLY didn’t like it” camp and was vocal about it when I delivered it 😬 #awkward
Its absolutely beautiful, bravo. I've been doing decoupage for years and I put all sorts of paper on my furniture. I find the easiest way is to put the decoupage glue on the drawers, let it dry for 20 minutes then with an iron that does not have any water in it and is on medium heat, take a piece of parchment paper (which I keep for other projects), put over the paper and iron all over. If you are using very thin paper or even napkins....it also ensures there are no creases or bubbles.
Check out Wheat Paste for applying paper. Long window to wok with. It has been around since there has been paper to hang. It will hold paper to ceilings. Trim paper with a sharp blade while the paper is still wet. This allows you to get a good edge seal. You are great at re-engineering.
Ooo I definitely will check that out…sounds earth friendly as well which is right up my alley 😊 thank you and thank you for your email. I checked my messages before I went to bed and saw your message. What you said means so much to me, thank you. Sharing experiences is so important, that’s how we all grow together. I appreciate that you shared with me. Thank you
Sure I used minwax dark walnut stain and minwax polycrylic in matte. Sorry I didn't realize that I left those out of the description. thanks to letting me know glad you liked the makeover
Never saw anything like this style but even less the condition and how you did un duckling de uglify! Pro swanery! Maybe not to everybody's taste but it certainly has unique beauty. Thank you for sticking (LOL) to it .
Veneer is actually quite easy to replace if you ever want to take a chance on a vintage piece again. It's no more difficult than the paper. An art deco piece restored to look original sale for a lot of money. Glad you kept the original handles
Donna! Thanks for this encouragement I actually do want to try it. Waiting for a good piece to try it on! I bet the veneer would have been easier that paper was a bear 😆
Wow, transformed ! Definitely a saved piece of furniture! I've ended up over the years with many old pieces of furniture that I'm sure nobody would have wanted, some definitely falling apart, but they have a certain sentimental value. I've stripped, sanded, painted and made them not so bad but I've never thought about doing some of the stuff you did. That's some really handy things to keep in mind! Thank you!
It wasn't untl the very end I saw how the top opened. I wish you had shown us more about that, but it was still an amazing transformation. Did you pack up all your tools when you went for your summer job?
Will definitely work on more after shots, thank you for sharing that. I did pack a lot of the tools that I use but couldn't bring it all over. That said I have an update about "life" and my summer job that I'll be sharing in the coming weeks when I know more details.
Well replacing veneer is not something I’ve done but you know me I’d give it a go. This piece is gone but maybe if I find a really bad veneered piece I could give it a go on that.
From Ugly Duckling to Retro Glam. Very good job! Like some others here, Retro is not my style, but you nailed it and it looks fantastic. There are plenty of the Retro lovers out there who'd love to give this piece a good home.
Velma! I am always so happy when I see your name in the comments! Thank you - the more I got into the piece the more I knew no other hardware would have worked.
Wow! When I first saw this, I thought, there is no way this will look good. And then when I saw the wall paper, I thought, what is she doing? Now that I see the finished dresser, all I can say is fantastic job! It looks awesome! You have made a subscriber out of me.
Could not imagine how you would transform this piece, the handles looked so out of place! I'm gobsmacked!! Such a great job and now the handles are the stars supported by your use of the papered drawers! 5$!! Love this one!
Wow! When I saw this piece I couldn’t imagine HOW ON EARTH you could restore it. All parts of it are stellar. I’m not a “burlap” color person but that was an excellent choice! Love the top too. I subscribed too!
Hey there and welcome. So glad you subscribed AND so glad you liked it I appreciate the encouragement. The top was my favourite part as well...hard for me to paint over beautiful wood grain!
Oh! I LOVE the retro style.. and yes, I love this dresser! I really appreciate that you keept the style and not painted over it all! I wish I lived in Australia, so I chould buy it!
Hehe well I’m so glad you loved the dresser. It is super unique. I tried to do what I could to fix it. I was thinking next time I might try replacing veneer 😳😂 that would be new for me but I’m keen to give it a go. I am an Aussie but actually I live in the US now…married an American 😆
Fantastic job glad you saved it. A little tip if you are going to use wallpaper in future please use ready mixed wallpaper adhesive and paste the paper on a table as you would to paper a wall before putting on your piece use a craft knife to cut the edges instead of the sand paper makes for a better finish. No more ugly duckling it's brilliant well done 💞
I like these little English dressers. In the 80s and 90s these came over to the US by the container loads. Dressers wardrobes tables chairs ect. They were always lightweight really thin wood but had some great rounded waterfall looks to them. Nice white on this one for 5 dollars even in the shadow it was in. Think I would of went in a different way then you but I enjoyed watching your design and using that paper for the front was pretty unique nicely done.
Oh wow! That is so cool to know that. I love hearing stuff like that. I'd love to hear what direction you would have taken. Thanks for the encouragement I appreciate it!
So nice!I wet down the thick modpodge....or make my own. 1 bottle Elmer's glue,2-3 parts water. Keeps for months.I decoupage tons of things...my fav. Great work of love.😁😘
You did so many good things. Salvaging the piece and having a vision. Getting it solid and secure. Working on the prep and the finishing. I love the handles. Yes, I have the paper on the front. It reminds me of packing paper on drywall or something. That's just me. It does not diminish the many fine things you did.
So cute! I'm glad you took the chance on this little piece. I totally understand removing the veneer, but I love, love the wooden top. My daughter would live thus piece!!
Ahhh Jessica you know my pain. It was so hard and honestly have only done it a few times because of that 😆 so glad your enjoying the videos. Always grateful to hear that. Hope your having a good week. 🥰
It's a great flip. I'm so glad you kept the long handles--I love those. Also the top is beautiful. Nice job and it was cool that you shared your blunder and persevered. Kudos!
Thank you so much Jean! I have never seen handles like them before. It was a hard sell I had it up until Tuesday! But the lady really liked it and said it was unique (her husband had a different opinion 😬 ah people).

you really put a lot of work into this and I love love love the papered drawer fronts. However, the paper design is not centered. To me, it’s like laying tile. Ahhh thank you lovely! It was out of my comfort zone for sure and not something I usually gravitate towards
Oh.. too cute. Love that pattern
Thank you I really appreciate that
Good choices. The puppy decor just made it. ! 😜
hehehe well thanks
Do you combine Super Clean and Dawn Spraywash in the same bottle?
No I used to use…still have the super clean but switched at some point to dawn…both work well 😊
Great reimagining!!!! The paper looked perfect for the time of the furniture. Thank you for the lesson on removing the vaneer.
I tell you it was a task...😆 not one I'd rush to do again but happy to have shared it. Thanks Leah
This looks amazing. So glad you kept the drawer pulls. They really suit this piece.

Great work girl!!! Fabulous job. You completely transformed it!
Thanks lovely

Ah thank you Cynthia your so encouraging. It was definitely not my go to style but I had fun giving it a go!
The lines of this dresser are incredible. The wallpaper is a little wild for my taste but so glad you saved this beauty!
Have to say I agree about the wall paper. Not my cup of tea but I enjoyed doing it and doing something out of the norm for me. The dresser is lovely!!
What is the sander you're using please?
I was using a surf prep sander and the other sander I use is a ryobi orbital sander
They're not in Aussie! Only the usual variety here. So disappointing!

Love the hardware on this piece. So glad you kept it and made it work! Lovely job Sarah!
Thanks so much Emily! 😊
Beautiful makeover! So glad you saved the hardware. The stained top is gorgeous.
Thanks so much! 😊 I'm glad it was able to be salvaged I agree that wood grain was too lovely to cover
Great save. I’ve never seen a piece like this. And removing the veneer, looked like quite the chore. Results are awesome
Thank you it was most definitely a chore and not one I would rush to do again 😆 glad you thought it was awesome, thank you
What a fun funky piece! Good job!

What once an ugly duckling, is now fabulous and funkadelic! Great rescue, Sarah! I'm tickled you used the original handles :)
Trish those handles! I wasn't sure but once I got into the piece no other handle would have been good enough.
Looks great! Job well done! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching Pamela 🥰

Thanks for giving this dresser new life. The result is so metro retro it makes me want to dance like Austin Powers. The right buyer will treasure it.
