Guys, Alcantara is not suede, it doesn't get ruined when it gets wet. They use it on boats for crying out loud. You think a company would upholster a convertible with material that would need replacing if it got wet?
People are so fucking stupid, it's disheartening. Plus they talk all this nonsense about ruining a Ferrari in the most stuck up, arrogant way possible EVEN THOUGH they're wrong as fuck. Just.. Wow.
+HyperLeafBlower you're missing the point moron - this is a ferrari Speciale Aperta - 499 of them produced. All sold before the first one was built. Auctioning currently for 700,000 pounds minimum. It's a work of art. It deserves respect. You simply do not treat a car of this quality with this level of disdain and disrespect. you're more interested in "but but! they use Alcantara! They use it on Yachts! so I'm right! listen to meeeeeee!" And this is why you will never have nice things. Because you don't respect the obvious it does not matter that the material is resilient. It matters that the driver demonstrated an absolute disrespect for property which he does not own. It isn't his car. I can well imagine how little respect you must show for other people's property with your lack of perception here... geez. your generation is so lacking in common sense, respect and decorum. Low class is what low class does.
arent the cars that sit in the garage usually collector cars and not just expensive ones such as this 458? plus, I'd assume that not all cars are suitable for daily drivers =p
LOL, this is such a British way, just fuck the weather, we'll drive it in the rain. If you think this is disrespectful to the car, then you should know what Ferrari does to potential buyers of this car. There's a buyer who is interested in this Speciale Aperta, but the Ferrari dealer in my city simply said he cannot have one as all the allocations are reserved for LaFerrari buyers. How's that for disrespectful? That Ferrari dealer basically said he's not rich/loyal enough. And of course that potential buyer kept his McLaren Ferrari isn't god and their arrogance haven't help them a single bit. Which is unnecessary as their road cars are so damn good. BTW, since the Speciale is Evo Car Of The Year, does the Aperta makes it even better? Absolutely
***** Read the original poster's comment. That kind of stuff is not even surprising, given how controlling and pretentiously exclusive Ferrari is as a company.
***** Even if that story is fake, there are many accounts of Ferrari being a snob company. No amount of "link me to that story or it's not true" will change that.
Surely they can be as arrogant as they want cos for every one customer they piss off they have a thousand more right behind. They're awash with customers, just like Mclaren, just like all the other main supercar manufacturers.
***** Do you think this kinda things is out wide in the open? It's all dirty politics, hidden but no owners will openly say this cause Ferrari will just not sale them their cars. I know this because I know an owner of a 12C who actually posted that in a private facebook group. Rich people have a right to privacy. And therefore shall be remained as private. Though if you go to Evo's Secret Supercar Owner's blog, he did talk about Ferrari's dirty level of manipulation between buyers. Hence him buying a P1 instead of a LaFerrari. It's private for a reason.
Second favorite Evo vid with Henry's drive of the Catheram in the snow (with a dead clutch !). Open sportscar in awful weather always give great vids. And great driving.
Just gonna say you totally delivered the video i was looking for, i think this is one of the best videos i´ve seen, the music, the car, and the weather, just perfect
How is this disrespectful or bad in any sense? It's a million dollar car and if it can't withstand rain on the interior than wtf... I know it's overkill but it's disrespectful when you keep these locked up in a garage and not use them to their full potential and have fun with it. After all if your rich enough to afford thins there's nothing to complain about here.
kooldog88 So? Health care doesn't cost your life in every western country, but it does in America. People are still dying or going bankrupt. That doesn't mean it's the standard, just like saying this costs a million dollars is the standard price for the car
This is one of the all time great press drives. Jethro what a legend. Hooning a limited edition Ferrari round the hills in undriveable conditions like its nothing.
beld capristo Well to regular people it might've looked that way, but we are talking about a company that likes to control customers cars even after being purchased from them! :P Can't imagine them being thrilled :(
2:37 is so cool! The rev limiter light, dash board light, topless, rain, what a perfect match. However, wonder how'll the angle slide control work in rain.
The balance and control of the 458 S is on an other level even in the wet. Its part of the fun of owning a convertible taking it out in the heavy rain with the roof down at least once a year.
Great video! Enjoyed watching Jethro having fun with the car regardless of the weather! Love the "no fucks given" attitude! This car is made for fun, pure and simple. It's made to be enjoyed.
Done this! Had to give up a little earlier as the single wiper couldn't keep up! Nothing beats declaring "feck it" and just going for a good blast! Great video.
At the beginning of this video, i thought it was crazy to drive a convertible in a heavy rain, espeacially a Ferrari. But after watching it, i think if i have a chance to own this car, i would do the same thing. Drive in the rain, feel the nature with this glorious monster. What an Heaven!!!
Still coming back to this video after almost 10 years now. This is hands down the greatest mid engine v8 Ferrari ever made! I recently had the once in a lifetime opportunity to drive one and it was every bit as awesome as it was to see in this video. The car has aged beautifully and it feels amazing. I just wish Ferrari would get their head out of the gutter and make NA V8 sports cars again. The SF90 & 296 look terrible and it’s sad that they don’t have NA engines. I pray that one day Ferrari will bring back NA V8s
Tifosi out in full force today idolizing a car that would not be bought after its run as a press car. No one is going to buy a Ferrari with over 10,000 miles on it especially when it was a press car. It is one car that you can get with relative ease. Nothing to get upset about.
***** This just in: Tifosi still being mocked for their stupidity. What I said goes for every car that is a press car. No journalist takes care of the press car and no one buys a press car unless they are clueless. This Ferrari will most likely get crushed after its run or, Ferrari being Ferrari, will sell it to someone.
Thank you thank you thank you! I loved this EPIC VIDEO. What an amazing car in an amazing landscape with incredible weather. You simply don't see this type of stuff. Bravo Evo and bravo Jethro. PS: Don't listen to all these cry babies.
Driving in the dry with blue sun bathed skies with a Ferrari Speciale to play with is the stuff of fairytales.. Driving in the rain with the top down.. That's just pure badass.
I'm surprised you didn't show smoke filling the cabin from electrical fires after you drowned the interior ;) Was there any damage? Looking at the deluge I would expect standing water in the footwells...
I don't know too much about advanced driving but isn't driving in the rain like that especially dangerous due to the possibility of hydroplaning or does that only happen when you lose tread on your tyres?
You guys are complaining about getting the interior wet and ruining the car. You clearly have no idea how are the components tested and what they have to withstand.
If I recall correctly Ferrari said no 458 Speciale spider's would be be built. This flex issue as said in video was mentioned. I guess the finanical benefits and demands were to great to pass up.
I love evos reviews but come one they couldn't wait fore a nice sunny day to test such an epic car. And show the car some respect that interior didn't deserve that soaking lol.
it's a shame you told us it won the EVO car of the year. I have to wait about 20 days before my issue arrives and didn't read it yet. Goodbey surprise. Good video by the way.
Would appreciate you giving a PROPER review of this car - like comparing the nuances of the Aperta to the Speciale. This is too tongue in cheek and we really don't get anything out of the review. Of course you have schedules to meet, but you have also come back to give PROPER reviews after initial drives. I have the Speciale and am getting the Aperta Q1 of next year. Give me something I can sink my teeth in AND be fair to the last of the truly outstanding naturally aspirated cars EVER produced. C'mon Jethro, you have come a long way and passed Chris H in fair reviews. Chris has relegated himself to being a toy poodle nipping at Ferrari's heels every opportunity he gets. Your better than that :)
A little bit unfair to compare the Speciale to a GT3. A fairer comparison would be the standard 458 with the 991 GT3, and the Speciale to the 991 GT3 RS when it's released.
Most people here would let their cars rot in the garage judging by the comments. I can see why you'd say don't ruin the car and whatnot but you do know that they test all the materials properly and if you let the car dry out after the rain correctly there will be no harm. You wouldn't even see what happened before... The video shows that these are driver cars and thats how they should be treated!
all i want to know is, besides the alcantara, are all the other parts of the interior unaffected by the rain? if so, of course its a ferrari...if not, then which parts and is it easy to fix? i mean the value of these apertas now are nearing around 900k clean, even with a bunch of miles on her...i have to digress now...i love the sound of a N A ferrari whatever engine mmmmmmm

Ferrari fanboys on youtube: low lives of the car community.

This is the best evo video in ages. The rain absolutely made it, bovril you are a hero sir.
Bovril lol
So many years later. This remains to be one of the greatest automotive reviews I’ve ever seen. I do miss Jethro.
Jethro is great reviewer, I like him more and more with every video!
The weather and the fact you guys still drove it with the roof down make this review even better! Enjoyed this a lot
one of the most enjoyable reviews I have ever watched so I almost watched it 3 times
That giggling @ 2:41
This must be one of the most genuine car video ever.
I was so fortunate to see one of these this morning, truly a gorgeous car.
If you drive fast enough, you will not get wet in the Aperta.
This is how a Perrari should be treated regardless of the weather you should drive the heck out of it not doll it up in a garage.
Most people never use their sports cars, they just baby it and die old without having any fun. They worry too much when instead they should live.
princeworm they are stupid for not knowing how to get the most out of what they have lets hope those ppl can learn from *****
arent the cars that sit in the garage usually collector cars and not just expensive ones such as this 458? plus, I'd assume that not all cars are suitable for daily drivers =p
princeworm
Well, FYI like the Enzo Ferrari or a Pagani Zonda, the car loses its worth if you drive 10'000km on it. If I'm not mistaken, more than 20%
Perrari? D:
The 488, even in his future special edition, will never reach the perfection of this car.
Have you been to the future and back? You sound very certain.
hahahahahaha
Joel Schembri Because the engine is turbocharged.
488 Pista Spider...
@@dareius831 488 Pista GTS would make more sense.
one of the most legendary car journalism videos
My weekly visit to this video. Best car review ever, right up there with jethro's other review of the speciale coupé.
This might be my favorite evo video, 👌 hope you guys do more videos like this. Using cars how they were meant to be used!
Love the video I can't believe they allowed you to drive it this hard roofless in such a bad whether... Thumps up!!
LOL, this is such a British way, just fuck the weather, we'll drive it in the rain.

This video screams ballsy driver. Heavy rain, roof down, stability control off. I'm very impressed!

***** in some countries it does
***** in some countries such as china, it will cost u 6 million because of fucking tax
blue4zero I agree! This car needed to be use more on track or atleast have fun on public road. If not, go get a Civic

Not a single f%ck was given that day !
Awesome :)
These are already selling for 1,250,000. That's insane
Did Ferrari lose their shit watching this? Their creation is getting all wet inside :P
I was thinking the same thing , that was pretty disrespectful in my eyes.
beld capristo Well to regular people it might've looked that way, but we are talking about a company that likes to control customers cars even after being purchased from them! :P Can't imagine them being thrilled :(
Oh I'm sure they were pissed I know I would be.
why would ferrari do a convertible with an interior that can get easily ruined with water? think a little harder, pussy.
cesar malabrigo mujica You sound like a brilliant person :)
Nobody does it like EVO, they are the best! Love you guys!

The Speciale is one of my favorite cars and honestly watching him rip the car in the rain was awesome, don't know why so many butthurt people.
Aannnnddd back to this video for the 4567th time. See you in a week (:

One of the best reviews!!
Jethro, and all at Evo, bloody great work again. Excellent video and you made the best of a bad situation.
Well, there is potentially 498 ones left with interiors now....
EVO guys know how to turn such circumstances into exceptional unpredictable reviews. 👍

Some press cars are investments Like the Mercedes CLK Black Series Reg:KI CLK,that Mr Clarkson drove,is now a big investment!!!
SYEDOMAR North That car in particular or the model itself?
That car in particular
SYEDOMAR North Why's that?
Thank you thank you thank you! I loved this EPIC VIDEO. What an amazing car in an amazing landscape with incredible weather. You simply don't see this type of stuff.

One of my new favourite cars!
Driving in the dry with blue sun bathed skies with a Ferrari Speciale to play with is the stuff of fairytales.. Driving in the rain with the top down.. That's just pure badass.
Jethro is a beast. Probably his best review ever.
Hey Jethro - I reckon this is my favourite of your vids mate - totally insane - love it man!!
I'm surprised you didn't show smoke filling the cabin from electrical fires after you drowned the interior ;) Was there any damage? Looking at the deluge I would expect standing water in the footwells...
I wonder what Ferrari thought about the interior when they gave the car back.. lol
Is there really that big of a difference in the stiffness of the chassis between the spider and italia??
you crazy man
well done loved it.put a big smile on my face
This guy is good for a sports cars show a specially with 911 turbo s
All the performance details you need to know. Just brilliant.
Wow! This car deserved such effort in making the video!!
I don't know too much about advanced driving but isn't driving in the rain like that especially dangerous due to the possibility of hydroplaning or does that only happen when you lose tread on your tyres?
jethro bovingdon and chris harris are the best reviewers definitely
Nice one Jethro. The final part of the video was hilarious.Keep it up.Peace!!
fantastic, gorgeous, great vid, WANT!
Beautifully done.
It’s cool that you CAN drive with the top down in the rain... I’d assume that it’d ruin the leather or the delicate as Italian electronics
Amazing car! Only thing I miss is the glashood like they hat in the 16M.
Like how the captions change gt3 to gg freeze
5:00 wow, those wipers are quick!
Menuda maravilla !!El sonido de el motor y de todo el coche en general es algo que me fascina!!!!!!
One of my favourite videos ever!
You guys are complaining about getting the interior wet and ruining the car. You clearly have no idea how are the components tested and what they have to withstand.
This video is a lot of fun !
This dude is crazy, I like him.
Ferrari guys were OK with you keeping the roof open in such heavy rains? :)
The only difference between an automotive journalist and a German Sheppard is that the German Sheppard might feel bad for shitting in your car.
Love that car.. I had no idea the Speciale was released in a cabrio version... too bad it is only 499 in the world though :( Would love to own one.
If I recall correctly Ferrari said no 458 Speciale spider's would be be built. This flex issue as said in video was mentioned. I guess the finanical benefits and demands were to great to pass up.
Thats how it's done! Good stuff.
Jethro Bovingdon, you are a freaking hero!
Wow what a car what a vid
That wheel looks so sick..
fantastic review
I love evos reviews but come one they couldn't wait fore a nice sunny day to test such an epic car. And show the car some respect that interior didn't deserve that soaking lol.
Great review,it is mad but fun..
If I'm not mistaken, the 599 Aperta had waterproof interior, is this the same?
Does the rain not spoil the car electronics in the cabin?
you guys should upload a part2 video with the ferrari guy's reaction when you handed him back the car :) i'm pretty curious about it
it's a shame you told us it won the EVO car of the year. I have to wait about 20 days before my issue arrives and didn't read it yet. Goodbey surprise. Good video by the way.

A little bit unfair to compare the Speciale to a GT3. A fairer comparison would be the standard 458 with the 991 GT3, and the Speciale to the 991 GT3 RS when it's released.

Class vid and big town halls 👍
The circumference of Jethro's ball is measured in meters!
What do you guys have against Pirelli?
Brilliant as ever
goodbye signore LDM, #legend
all i want to know is, besides the alcantara, are all the other parts of the interior unaffected by the rain? if so, of course its a ferrari...if not, then which parts and is it easy to fix? i mean the value of these apertas now are nearing around 900k clean, even with a bunch of miles on her...i have to digress now...i love the sound of a N A ferrari whatever engine mmmmmmm

Realise its still got 'that' drive train, but the flex would stop me buying the car.
This makes me feel that Evo would never call out a flaw in a Ferrari for fear of the consequences. Do like JB's vids in general tho!
My dream Ferrari
I was thinking it's ok to drive in wet with the top down as the air flow keeps you dry-ish...
...till the end of that video : o
Seriously, EVO you guys are amazing and you shoot incredible film, but why would you put the top down on that day?
There's a guy who really enjoys his job :D
