This song is so friggin awesome. Love it to pieces. People need to understand that just because they have sounds of Led Zeppelin and others is because they have musical influences like so many artists have in the past have done and took bits of this and that and put it into their own music and lyrics. GVF is their own band and like all artists are influenced by their peers. GVF is coming into their own creations and people really need to give them some grace and understanding. They are so talented and are gracing us all with their gift.
@@QueenofNonSequitur Right you are Marisa. Robert and Jimmy most definitely had musical influences. I would bet all artists, singers, musicians, songwriters have all been influenced by many genres whether it is old school jazz, new age, indie, folk, you name it. They all have been touched by someone. Music is a divine inspiration for all who fully embrace the embodiment internally that touches the human spirit and moves anyone to an elevated level of inner well being.
Heard this song in my buddies car for the first time last night and I gotta say there’s something magical about the vocals at 5:30 they just sound soo soothing man
Instant classic hit. I was driving through Maine and I heard this on some local rock station. It really helped my mood; I was heading home to be with my mom; she's dying.
…I’ve been waiting for so long!… I have known no other Master, He has been the only One… …Give Him all of our Love, all of our Love! Love it! Such a beautiful and worshipful song. 🙌🙌🙌🙌 Thank you, GVF!💛
@@mtaylormercer Ever since I heard this song, I can’t shake the feeling that the Master is one’s self. What a day to meet the Master/ your higher self I have known no other master He has been the only one What if he’s talking about the idea of self mastery here? Finding God within. Enlightenment. Finally meeting one’s self. Or even, the idea of collective consciousness? Am I reaching here? 😂
First played live March 24th, 2023 in Anneheim California, on the tail end of the Dreams in Gold Tour. It went on to be the first single from the album Starcatcher, released April 6th. The song draws melodic inspiration from Jethro Tull’s song “Reasons For Waiting”
@@alisonannallyallen1437 in one of their instagram posts about the song they say “Meeting the Master peers into an esoteric world heeded by the word of a wise teacher. Sung in the voice of a devout believer, and eventual group exclamation, the song details the love these fervent followers have for their teacher and their firm belief in his vision.” which definitely can be interpreted that way, but i think it’s silly to think they’d write a song about “god” when all their songs are very open spiritually and this song, including Trip the Light Fantastic, has themes of hinduism with the chant “Rama Rama”. when they say “an esoteric world” to me it sounds like the songs based on a story about another world, not this one. they’ve clearly all done acid and various other drugs and had their ego deaths and while i believe they want their songs to be interpreted in whichever way their listeners want, which i think is the reason Meeting the Master has such minimal lyrics but intense meaning, it’s a bit shallow minded to think it’s about christianity. i mean the song literally says “and i’m taken by the madness and the tripping and the touching”, which to me totally sounds like a cult leader has brainwashed the speaker with drugs and sexual assault/is in love with their master and that just doesn’t sound like a relationship between a christian and their god. also, they mentioned that the song is a sort of “dark comedy” which to me says they wrote it with the intention of it being a ridiculous and depressing song, not religiously affirming. the lyrics “it’s my time to go home” sounds like it’s is referring to the afterlife but definitely no specific ideal of it, especially when you think about the chant at the end saying “blow it up to give him all of our love” which i think entails a sacrifice for whatever or whomever this master is. i like your idea about it being about finding ones higher self because that definitely makes sense when you think about the kind of spirituality these guys must have, but like i said they 100% want all their songs to be interpreted by the individual. i still just think there’s no way they believe in any christian ideal and wouldn’t write a song specifically about that or any one thing in particular. also, they don’t capitalize “him” in the lyrics like this commenter has as if they’re referring to a god anyway, so that’s why i interpret it as being about just about some guy who has control of all these people including the speaker. but that’s the beauty of the song, it’s versatile and can be interpreted however you want according to your belief system. i’m an atheist which is why i don’t interpret it to be about religion, and this commenter is clearly christian which is why they interpret it to be about christianity. i just think it’s wrong to say it’s about any one specific thing since it’s meant to have open meaning.

The first and the last time we'll hear this song live without an out of tune audience singing along. 😜 Thank you for recording and posting.

Drop GVF in the 60s and 70s they would hold their own and we would be here comparing another band to them.
Led Zeppelin copied someone, excuse me, had influences as well.
