      @ChaseNada ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@AvioftheSand I have more respect for Shane for doing some of the most thankless jobs imaginable (teacher, retail etc) and being at ease with that aspect of his life now.
      Whereas for Flair, he has been given every opportunity to go out with grace but the man cannot let go. This gimmick that he has embodied won't let him go out like that.
      Richard Fleur is dead and buried and 'Ric Flair' is all that is left of the man. He belittles Shane's position in life because he has the peace and content that Flair will never have.
      And that's sad, man.

    • @albalog2449
      @albalog2449 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ChaseNada The thing is, if I was a midcard/upper-midcard wrester whose career was done, I honestly wouldn't mind working a regular job like Shane Douglas.
      When I wrote and fantasy booked my sarcastic Hun shaman character called "Scourge" (born 1963, debuted 1984, main evented in early/mid 1990s WCW and All Japan), he retired full-time 2003 and then working the indies as an old-timer, also taking a job in computer repair and part-time grocery work. "Scourge" was generally happy in life, and ever since the debut of the nWo (he got creatively lost) and Attitude Era, he mainly worked in the midcard on an equal footing against Gangrel, Val Venis, D'Lo Brown, etc. with a 2-month feud with Kane (50/50 booked). "Scourge" lead a stable (called "The Khanate") with Tiger Ali Singh and Taka Michinoku to help build them up.
      What I am saying is that if I wrestled, unlike Flair, I'd very much know my place on the card and not develop an ego for having a good 5 year prime. Despite Scourge's strong main event presence in pre-Nitro WCW, I would've been the type who had a lot of fun working with (and put over) younger guys all the time in fun little midcard feuds.
      I think in Flair's case, he can't humble himself or remember how he started out small. He's living too much the "rock and roll" rich guy lifestyle, where a lot of rockers still go 10~15 years past their prime. It would be like comparing the ego money-driven Gene Simmons (Flair) to the humble small-town Kurt Cobain (Scourge's personality). Like as big of a stage that Kurt had, he never forgot his roots, and always gave the lesser known/underground bands a platform.
      Even Kurt got sick of the mainstream attention & schedule, which I'm sure would've happened to me if I wrestled. Send me back to midcard land & let me feud with Alex Wright instead of jobbing to Ric Flair! 😆

    Dutch called it the Nashville Civic Coliseum but it's the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The Ric Flair card was Sunday evening of a whole weekend. WWE ran Nissan Stadium where the Titans play the same weekend but not affiliated with Conrad's event. All day Saturday and and Sunday they had wrestling events and autograph signings. You could go broke quickly. I paid to see the Rock and Roll Express, Tully Blanchard, JJ Dillon, Hornswoggle and The New Age Outlaws Road Dogg BG Jessie James and Billy Gunn. Some other wrestlers like the Steiner Brothers and Lex Lugar were over 100 dollars per autograph. You could spend thousands and some wrestlers like Virgil even tried to con me but not giving change. If he asked for 20 dollars and you gave him 50 dollars he would say he didn't have change so let him have it. Most interesting were the marks dressed up as Randy Savage and Dusty Rhodes carrying title belts and acted convinced they were the real deal. Lol. New Japan was like 35 dollars for ringside on Saturday evening and the Flair match (well there were 9 matches on the card including Ricky Morton who can still work) general admission was only 25 dollars plus ticket master fees. In all the weekend was fun but you could spend a small fortune especially if you did all the meet and greets plus purchased food concessions

    Flair has always been this thinned skin. All of the problems he had in the past have been because of this character flaw. He may have actually said f u to the critics , but he literally said F U to all the fans when he went into the ring the way he did that night.. The one wrestler we should praise that evening was Jarrett, he was the only bright spot of the night.

No one wants to see his old, wrinkley body ...hell, even his promos are getting where you feel sorry for him bc he sounds like some old man trying way too hard! I guess he doesn't get that the last match with Shawn Micheals left him exactly where we wanted---and even then, I felt he was too old to get in the ring.

    I don't know why people continue to feel bad for Ric Flair. He chooses to do stuff like this. Now, the event overall was actually quite well done, and I think there's potential there for a yearly event. Main event was bad though. Flair had a giant ego and believed his own hype long ago, but now he's passed the point of no return. He's stark raving nuts. And on top of that he makes excuses for missing his daughter winning the Smackdown women's title so he could go to some bar and drink with his friends, even though he was at the arena earlier? Christ, he could've gone back to the arena, but instead he stayed at the bar to drink some more. I listened to one of his podcasts a couple of months ago and that was enough for me. Ric's a mess. Before Ric Flair had that last match he did an interview where he said "If I pull this off I'll be the greatest ever!".
    No Ric, what puts you into the discussion for greatest all time is what you did 30-40 years ago! What you did in "the last match" did absolutely nothing positive to contribute to that discussion.
    I get it, getting old and not being able to do what you used to could do or at least on that level sucks! I am finding this lesson out the hard way myself these days. This is just part of the circle of life.
    Ric Flair is so obsessed with being known as the greatest of all time. He gets so worked up when anyone claims he isn't. He really seems to get bent out of shape when he himself begins to wonder if he was the greatest or not.

    Flair’s comments on Dutch are unfair. Dutch has always been a class act, he has great knowledge and has made a mark on pro wrestling. So many guys have positive things to say about Dutch. Warrior, Austin, Foley, Cornette and many many more.
