    Good looking guitar with nice features and it sounds good. That said, no way will I ever consider paying $2k for a lower tier Gibson. It's just not sensible in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

    I just bought one of the now discontinued Tribute LPs in tobacco burst. It was 1200 bucks new and is a great guitar. This is basically the same guitar with a coil spilt for 2 grand. I don't think I'll be buying another new Gibson, ever. Prices are just too inflated for what you get, and Gibson QC is notoriously hit or miss.

      Quick question for you. When you are in phase reversal mode, with the swith in the middle position, does the neck volume knob start acting wonky? Like mine seems to either have no volume from 0-2, to full volume from 3-8, then no volume again from 9-10.
      I know I read phase reversal makes the guitar act kind of weird as is.

  • @thadlogan51

    I agree with your review. I don't see why anyone would pay $2k for this when they dropped the price of the classic from $2,500 to $2,200... only $200 more for a guitar with gloss nitro and full binding. There is no tangible difference between the standard and the classic except for the flame top. Weight relief doesn't change the tone whatsoever... that myth has been debunked. As you said you can buy a SG 61 reissue for the same price with a hard case, hand wiring, slightly better pickups,... though 490's are really good too, etc. for the same price as this. I've owned four studios, still have a classic... and a SG 61 reissue. Even though I loved most of my studios and I think the tone was just as good... the look and feel of both the classic and SG 61 is more premium. With that said I don't think you can get a better sounding guitar than the studio regardless of price... but for the same price or a couple hundred more you get something aesthetically superior.... and more in line with higher end guitars...

  • @Jydmd
    @Jydmd 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I mean it is an expensive guitar, but a slim satin neck, ebony board with compound radius and contoured heel, plus all the push-pull options, that’s very close to my dream Les Paul specs. Only thing missing for me would be a belly cut like on the Modern Lite.

    • @thadlogan51
      @thadlogan51 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The previous studio already had coil tapping... I've had four studios... nothing new except for the out of phase and bypass which you will probably never use. I have a Gibson LP classic with all of that and I never use it because Gibson doesn't know how to make good coil tapping. Coil tapping on all of my PRS guitars is superior.

      @@thadlogan51does your previous studios have a compound radius and ebony fretboard?

    • @thadlogan51
      @thadlogan51 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@philcasogonzo14 nope... all of my previous studios had rosewood fingerboards... and more 60's style necks...as does my Gibson Les Paul Classic. I've never owned a guitar with an ebony fretboard but a lot of people like ebony fretboards... that wouldn't deter me. Compound radius neck may help a bit... I have multiple guitars... some with compound radius and some without...some fat and some thin...that doesn't really make much of a difference to me... I get used to any neck pretty quickly... but some people are picky about necks for sure. I'm sure this studio is a great guitar... but for a couple hundred dollars more I'd take a classic any day of the week... Again both great but aesthetically you get quite a bit more with a Classic... and I prefer the 61 pickups in the Classic to almost any other Gibson pickups... though 490 and 498 are good too and actually found in custom shop Gibson's too... it's preference really...

    I'm looking forward to this one in white. I don't get why people are so upset about the price. I don't get why having a gloss finish and binding makes it legit to pay 4k for a custom but this one for 2k is shocking?
    Super stoked about the ebony board on this more simplistic look. The back cutaway makes it a bit easier (although not by that much) to acces the higher frets. I'm not a big fan of the whole pushpull config stuff but I get why that would make the price go up. I already busted my yearly budget on a Jackson but I'm going to keep an eye open for a used one for sure!

    $2k is quite a bit for a Gibson that isn’t a Standard. I think Gibson is using inflation as a cover to raise their prices. I guess the plan is to shift people who want a Gibson, but can’t afford one to a Epiphone with improved QC and better components than in the past.

    Just got this guitar, and so far I love it. A question about the phase flip. All the knobs seem to work fine in any other configuration, but when I'm in phase flip mode, the bridge volume works, but suddenly the neck volume seems to either be on or off. From 0-2 there's no volume, from 3-8 there is, then from 9-10 there's no volume again. Is that just a quirk from the way it's wired? I know phase reversal is quirky as is.

      I keep my signal chain consistent from demo to demo, to try to make the guitars comparable across videos. It's a Kemper direct through Apollo X4 interface. Direct makes it more accurate in TH-cam translation. The Kemper Profile is a modified M. Britt Fender '67 Deluxe Reverb. Pedals are Tube Screamer (on through most of the performance) and occasionally a Big Muff (not used here because there were plenty of push/pull tones to get through). I use Dunlop .88 picks. exactly whats i said studio probably end the production soon ,when the new les paul modern lite few months ago , because modern lite $200 cheaper than studio , and some new stuffs like matching headstock, so people probably pick modern lite over the les paul studio , so gibson better make a new version of studio, add binding ,little cut of the heel and bring back the white color ,that good enough to make the price range slightly different, but i still think modern lite is the better choice , and modern studio $1999,so one more better reason pick modern lite than modern studio in my opinion.

    My only LP is the older version of this. I like it and would never sell it but the new version is not worth $2k. I would have like to have seen a gloss finish on the top of the body at this price. I also would have like to see a headstock volute for something called a Modern series because this is not intended for vintage aficionados and I‘d prefer less chance of a headstock break. With that in mind, I wonder if that streamlined neck joint is strong enough. It looks nice, I just don‘t know if that is the best way to do it and still have a stable neck joint. But I’m a little OCD on this as I’ve had problems before on '61 SG vintage-style reissues. That’s why when the time is right I’ll probably check out the a good old Standard.

      I bought a tribute back in 2021 and remember looking at the studio as well back when it had the gloss finish. I'm fine with the satin on a cheaper guitar, but to see it at 2000 this looks like a cashgrab. I can't see why anyone would go for this iteration instead of the previous (provided they can find it in stock). Binding? It's barely visible. Would ebony and the compound radius justify the extra 500 over last years model?
      Lots of reviewers praise the satin finish for how nice it is to play and it feels great, for the first 2 months, because it wears quickly and after that it's full on gloss.

      I like PRS but I’d still go for a Gibson at the S2‘s price point. But I think an SE puts this to shame if you can deal with the PRS tonal profile. As much as people complain about the lack of character of PRS tones, I’ve been unimpressed with recent Gibson and Fender pickups that seem to be a lot less versatile than aftermarket sets. They are playing to their fanbases but I don’t know why other companies don’t offer more middle grounds in their modern lines. Gibson pickups seem increasingly to sound like someone threw a blanket over them. They just sound muffled to me and permanently in woman tone mode, though that could be the TH-cam compression. I like the out-of-phase and bypass sounds because it rescues this guitar from the muddy 498 and 490 humbuckers.

      @thadlogan51 good luck finding a Core for 2k. I did just snag one for 2500 plus shipping and tax and after that it puts you up around 2800.00. Still I was happy with that for being fairly recent and in excellent shape. If I could find cores for 2k I'd probably of had one before now lol 🙂. The CE was a good deal.aro8nd the 2k price range , but now after the price hike... well it's still a good guitar, but at almost 3k .... it's a much harder sell for me than it was when I got mine. Especially considering how close it is getting to used Custom 24 territory. Though they play as good and do offer a slightly different feel and tone. Idk. Now that the S2 line has the Core pickups they are a lot more tempting if you can do with the slightly more toned down looks and different carve. If I was playing live I would consider buying one of the new S2's to play at gigs vs my Core.
      Idk, it's late, I just came out of a sleep-guitaring moment and if I had a point I don't recall what it is...
      Oh ,maybe it was, where are you finding Custom 24's for 2k used? Inquiring minds want to know... though maybe I shouldn't be told lest I buy one and the wife shoots me soon after 🤣

    hopefully I don’t have the need of a Les Paul.

    Wait a Gibson Les Paul under 2000? What a suprise

    Gibson's coil splits sound shit because they don't wind the pickups in a way that would actually lend itself to a good coil split sound. You split an 8K pickup in half, you get 4K per coil. You need to go above 6K on a coil to start sounding like a proper single coil you know from Fender. So they'd need to start winding the pickups with assymetrically wound coils and then make the one with fewer winds turn off when split. But leave it to Gibson to half-ass a requested feature.

      It might sound better split with more winds, but definitely more muddy when in normal series mode.

    Why buy a $2000 faded finish studio when you can get a Esp ltd Eclipse with Stainless steel frets and a better finish for $1200 Gibson really lost on that one 🤮

    • @rocktorrocks
      @rocktorrocks 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think a lot of the increased premium is the “made in USA” label and the Gibson branding.

    So, for $400 more I get a Mother of Pearl logo, ebony board, heel contour, and crap RT pups. Not for m. Studio is a much better value imo.

    $2000 and it’s damaged in 2 spots? Damage by the nut and a dent in the body. At least it sounds good

    8 months later and this guitar looks completely ridiculous. The new Studio with nicer pickups and a gloss finish for $400 less is proof that Gibson recognizes they made a HUGE mistake with this thing.
