  • In this tutorial we will take a look at the plafond knot. The knot looks like a flat lanyard knot and can be used on a lanyard or keychain. It has many other uses as a decorative knot, so it is worth learning, if you would like to expand your knot repertoire.
A step by step photo tutorial can be found here:

Enjoy the video and happy tying!

Mark, An update to my earlier comment. After a month of trying, I finally found your version, with your tightening, and two pints of strong lager later and I've managed it, sitting quietly in the corner of my local pub. The final tightening process, if you do it really slowly, is absolutely beautiful to watch. Truly poetry in motion.

Wow! That's a totally different approach to tying this knot. I have always crashed and burned at the point where you fold the cords over. You fixed that issue for me. Thanks very much. Love your tutorials.

Thank you so much!! It's the last day of my time finishing my macrame knots and this really helped me out!
Even if it's a 7 year old video it still helps many people!

Ahhhh damn I was hoping I could use this as a separate piece stopper knot and run some other color Paracord strands in the center of it.
Thank you for the tutorial either way!

Throughout my fairly long life I've always believed that if somebody shows you how to do something and you don't quite follow it, get somebody else to show you exactly the same thing and something just clicks. However your version of doing this is so totally different from Australian Tom's way that I'm going to have to learn both ways. Yours looks very elegant. Quite how somebody initially designed this knot I cannot imagine.
