Thank you so much for this video and your great explanations during each step of the process! I am a total beginner in silver smithing and am soaking in as many helpful videos as possible! This was so great and I took so many notes!
I stumbled upon this video about silver jewelry making, and it blew me away. The craftsmanship and creativity involved are just mesmerizing. Watching how she shapes the metal into beautiful pieces is fascinating, especially for someone like me who is still learning. It's a must-see for anyone who appreciates art and skillful work, regardless of whether you're a jewelry enthusiast or not.
Love, Love, Love it..... thankyou so, so very much!!!! I really enjoyed this and the way you speak, the way you explain everything in plain inglish, not necessarily like someone who is dumbing it down for the learners. I will certainly go and check your stuff out, ... I am a beginner on the jewellery, and probably not supposeed to be using a soldering iron cos i am not allowed to use anything hot or sharp in most situations - but phhhhhhhfffffffft - I mean I just dont feel things in a lot of parts of the body, have a habit of dropping frypans and hot food on my thigh trying to get it off the stove and the arms giving way, or dropping everything when the legs give way and so do arms = ending up landing in a paddock with a carving knife in hand, no one else home for hours.... hands letting go in the kitchen and dropping the big carving knife point down on the leg cos the hands let go.... you know - the fun stuff. The choice is let me play with jewellery stuff - or let me on my horse. In the heat - Im playing with jewellery - too darn hot for anything else.
Thank you so much! I’ve learned so much from this video and so glad I made sure to pay attention for the entire hour. Much more informative than many others I’ve watched! Would love to take an in person class from you
@@SusanLenart I saw! I’m in CA so I’ll have to stick with your e-course for now but I downloaded the tools list and am so happy to have a cost effective approach to making jewelry
"Elbows on the table!"...I love it! I could hear that endless times and never get tired of it because I heard "Elbows off the table!" so many times as a child :)))
This is the best video I’ve watched on silversmithing (and I’ve watched a lot) your setup is exactly what I was looking for to get started. Thank you for sharing your passion, authenticity, and guidance!
Susan, thank you very much for sharing your expertise with this video. I am slowly starting to get back into jewelry making after a two year break and this video was very helpful and relaxing to watch, your not bad on the eyes either. 😍
I LOVE that you speak to culture, right brained approach, and that less tools equates to more creativity!! Most of the time, when I am lacking for a fancy thing-a-ma-jig, I become the most creative!! And I fully appreciate breath work while creating! Thank you so much! ❤
Lefty = right brain. Used to be ambi, but stroke took right side. Had the hardest time rehabbing with small parts, and now I’m trying to make jewelry with all this spare time I have (need $ too). I have always used what I had, but I had a huge imagination and lots of creativity. I enjoy making LOTS of mistakes. Thank you!
It is amazing that you are willing to share this information without charging for it! So giving and i greatly appreciate it! I have caught on to most people saying either a 24g or 22g for backplates but what i never hear anyone say is if we should use a dead soft or 1/2 hard or any of the other options. I checked the supply list and it says 24g but not what hardness to use. Could you please advise me on this? Thanks again for sharing!!!

This is my 3rd time watching your video. I had private lessons for silver smithing. We were not taught to sand or pickle the metal back. I cant wait to try you technique s Thanks 😊
thank you, im making a brass pendant from lapis, and been learning this. I was using a propane torch, and the flame doesnt cone like yours, and it heats to much up. then bought a map / oxy, and oxy reg was blown. So returning that today, and gonna get one of the ones like you have. thank you for showing this, and how to stack stuff properly.
This is amazing, I learnt to make wire wrap jewellery myself I've been using 3 tools for the past 7 years lol. I was asked to make an engagement ring and I wasted so much wire trying to wrap 2 small Gemstones with no hole and not wanting to copy other youtube wire wrapping designs but I done it. It is so unique and beautiful. I told my customer that I need to learn soldering and a couple days later you showed up. Many other people teaching on TH-cam but I didn't want learn from people that I don't feel aligned with. My question is do the same rules apply if you work with copper or brass ? Thank you
Yes! The same rules apply but you just need to turn up the heat in the gas. Those 2 metals take a little longer to get hot and let the solder flow property
Omg !!! Im sold, i make jewellry & im a stained glass artist & im wanying to combine the two & along with soft soldering, this is something i would love to do, make the ckassy pieces you have...Thankyou for sharing ❤

Thank you susan for information o in this corse I was looking for the steel pen brush but couldn't finf it all I saw was fiberglass pen from pepetools may I ask were you got that pen? Thank you Dave.
I work only with dead soft - mostly because I usually run the metal through the rolling mill to get a pattern. Half hard works well to keep an unmarred surface. Although nice you solder the first time, your metal will be dead soft from the heat
Hey Susan! I've ordered your book from amazon and I'm just so excited to receive it. I live in the UK so it's taking a while.... Nevertheless I find your Spirit, and your expression of Art through Jewellery just breathtaking!! You've helped me get out of the 'expected' box that jewelers are expected to be in, and I've found freedom and creativity flowing!! Thank you so very much! I do have one question for you though.... Many people like to learn with copper. It needs a little more heat and the silver solder shows up against the copper so maybe you will get pretty good with using less solder. Otherwise, bronze is good too. You can get bronze sheet from cool tool they probably have solder for bronze or brass also. Have fun and remember that you don’t really loose anything when you work with silver. You have the same amount ti scrap in the end
you oculd use bone cutters (scissors) from the dollar astore or buy these from a jewelry supply. I have a full on supply list for tools in the text below
This is a torch from euro tool. The tools are listed out for under $350. For a complete silversmithing kit. Under the video the art of soldering bezels
Permanent marker is great for those (like me) who have color vision deficiencies when annealing silver. Marker burns off at a temp very close to correct annealing temp.
I am watching this show right now but as a person who has done this before I found it lacking in the closeups that were needed to show when the solder liquified and set in. That was the most important part but no closeup done. The camera over ur head was not close enough.
Hi love! I always use dead soft. I like to make life simple and I find it easier to stick to one hardness. Once I solder with it it will become dead soft because if the heat. Once I forge with the wire it will become hard .
