Can you imagine being in a relationship like that? They watch each other be adored by the masses on a regular basis. They played in the White House together. Played with Taj together. They work and grow as a unit. He sings more now (her influence) and she's a better guitar player bc of him. That's like some fantasy existence right there, forget the "celeb" couples most people moon over
I love how all the other musicians were smiling during this. especially her husband....it is truly amazing to see someone that already smokes it when they perform, but when they get in that zone it goes into orbit, that has to be fun to be part of that when that happens. . she caught fire

An absolute tour de force for Tedeschi. How she stands next to one of the greatest guitar players on the planet, and has him smiling and shaking his head at her playing, singing and sheer emotional conviction in delivery. Tears of joy at the end. Astounded!! I
We rarely see emotion from Derek like this, it's so joyous, sheer joy in her joy... watch Keep on Growing live at the fox and when he nails the high bend she just screws her face up - imagine playing so many gigs and still catching each other out - Marvelous
I suspect that the highest compliment she takes is raised eyebrows from Derek (7:18). She also seems genuinely thrilled that she gave her best on this one and the audience is fully appreciative. These two and their whole band are just a wonder.
Seriously, Susan's playing and singing is sublime. That Les Paul got it's workout that night. Anyone who sings and plays a musical instrument together knows just how challenging that is. Susan's superb guitar skills combined with that killer voice is just off the charts good - so good! My only recent regret is that I wasn't at the Orpheum that particular night in Boston because it was SOLD OUT!
This was a moment in time when a talented artist hits the ball right out of the park. the Look on Dereks face as he witnesses this performance and the others including the audience. I was totally stunned. She nailed it and nobody was gonna question that performance. Just breathtaking.
Reminds me a bit of Jerry in that way. So stoic and reserved but when things really pop, can’t hold back a smile or a little kick of the leg! It’s rare but when it happens you know they’re having fun and there is fire on that stage

So much going on there! And the look on ALL of the bands faces as she built that thing to a monstrously joyous, cathartic release ... they all seemed proud to see Susan back on her solo guitar horse and a fearless player again. (not unlike my proud mama after I KILLED IT at solo and ensemble contest way back when ...) This band is just amazing. And have you ever seen Trucks smile so openly/enthusiastically while playing? EVER? And I though Lea was gonna jump off the riser at one point. Damn!

She kills me because she looks like a school librarian. She doesn't look like someone with the voice of one of the best rhythm and blues singers, ever known. It's always doubly impactful whenever I hear her. First, because she's so great. And secondly, because that voice isn't what's expected! And I love the unexpected! So, BOOM, Boom! Lol, love it!

Of the many ways this band warms my heart, knowing that someday (eventually) the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame will include a female trombone player tops the list. I think Elizabeth will join Cynthia Robinson (trumpet player for Sly & The Family Stone) as only the second woman horn player in the Hall -- brass or woodwind.
The rewriting of the lyrics and then the execution of their delivery toward the end of the song was/is heroic for taking a stand. Susan is a true bad-ass. She's dead on right and I'm glad she gives voice to sense over hate, meanness and cruelty. Go girl. You're on the side of right and light.
Making the argument that taking the shot is standing up for love shows incredible ignorance at this point. I've long been a fan of hers and the band, but it has to be called out. By the end of winter, she won't be saying this.
@@andyj845 The kind of music the Tedeschi Trucks Band play is rooted in the folk/ blues tradition, and the 'counter culture' of the sixties and early seventies, which have an in-built left-wing stance. Nothing wrong with that, but when the pendulum swings, and the Bohemians become the Establishment, artists might do better to continue challenging the prevailing orthodoxy, which is at least part of their job. I would not want anyone to self-censor their views, but this did make me cringe a bit, even though I'm a liberal old hippy.
She is literally married to arguably the best guitarist in the world right now. And he shut the fuck up while she totally owned it. They are so amazing and all us married folk have a lot to learn 😊
PITY THE POOR FOOL! The unleashed, deep and to the bone Susan Tedeschi I always knew, I always hoped and wanted her to be! Brilliant, from another world and supremely of this moment we are living through. Susan stepped up, threw it down and gave it all away! An historic performance we are all now blessed to experience. I Love Sue ! I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa before they created the Tedeschi Trucks Band. And yes, she was awesome ! She stayed after the show and took pictures with everyone and she signed my pink paisley telecaster and her CD . She is just as humble as she is a great guitar player & singer ! Rock on everyone & Happy Happy New Year !
That’s a sublime musical moment! Imagine being in a band that lifts you like that, and then being able to match the emotional intensity of a Derek Trucks solo with your voice, your passion and a completely different approach on guitar. I’ve seen them live twice and watched hundreds of their videos and that’s right up there with their best performances, and therefore, the best there has ever been in my eyes. Thank you thank you!
What a gentleman and what love! The rose at the end is a nice touch but quickly handing her a towel right after the song (and before grabbing one for himself) is true love and respect.
Speechless and in tears of awe over this performance. Wow, just wow. And that look of awe and admiration from Derek. Susan owned the stage, the song, and shot love arrows into our souls and our hearts.

used to catch her at the Met cafe behind Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence when she was jus the Susan Tedesci blues band . we would sit on the front of the stage and have a 1 dollar draft beer and talk about blues .a more or less unknown guitarist named SRV was playing in front to a packed house ! early 80s I would say .. do you listen to very early Beth Hart ? not the covers . she also had “blues pipes “
@@robpattison6606 Big SRV fan here man. I'm in NY, seen him every time he was anywhere near here. One show that really stands out to me was when he played down on the Pier on the West side of Manhattan, next to where the Intrepid Ship is docked. His brother Jimmy's band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened for SRV. Jimmy plays a lot of Clapton's Crossroads Tours now, and occasionally opens for him as well. During Stevie's set, the band left the Stage, and a Roadie came out with a single chair. Stevie was handed a double neck guitar, and proceeds to start shredding the hell out of it (no real surprise there), but about 15 minutes later, Jimmy comes walking out on stage. He sort of stares at Stevie from Stevie's right, then walks around and does the same thing from the left. He looks out at the crowd, and basically motions like "Check my brother out...my Bro can JAM !!!" Then he walks behind Stevie, who's still sitting in that chair jamming. Jimmy leans over Stevie, and starts following Stevie's jam on the TOP NECK of the guitar. The two of them are going at it like crazy, almost having a "Guitar Duel", on the same guitar. Needless to say, the crowd went insane. This was over 35 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Truly one of the most incredible moments I've ever seen, and I've seen all the "Guitar Gods" since the late 70s. But THAT was my most memorable Stevie Ray moment, and it was phenomenal ✌️

@@robpattison6606 Oh HELL YEAH....Eric Gales is another (I hate to say "up and coming" cause he's got SERIOUS chops). Eric is amazing, and I don't know if it's just me, but I'm starting to see a LOT of guys that fall into the same category. And it's thru Clapton's Crossroads Tours that these guys are being given the opportunity they need and deserve, cause they're just KILLIN IT. But back to what you said in your post about "the crash".... Fate is crazy. Stevie was playing with Clapton that night as I'm sure you know. And they discussed taking the chopper, Eric declined, and the rest is history, the unfortunate kind. At that point, Stevie had battled his demons, and cleaned up, and there was just SO much more that we would've gotten from him. A lot of these new guys, like Eric Gales, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Gary Clark Jr, they're incredible musicians, and while they're probably not gonna get the same size crowd as an Eric Clapton, or that level, those guys can absolutely Headline at almost any venue. When Clapton rolled thru NY in '17, I had tickets for both nites because Chase Bank customers get to purchase a day early. I had the same Aisle seat in the 3rd and then 5th row, and Gary Clark opened, then Jimmy Vaughn, then Eric. Gary just killed it man. He had the crowd pumped up big time, and he's really cemented his place, as has Eric Gales, as a force to be reckoned with. But as good as they are, none of them, and I even say, hardly ANYONE touches Stevie Ray. It's not really in dispute, even among the world's greatest guitarists, that Hendrix was THE best. He was on a level that was all his. Stevie Ray was just barely a hair away from there. How many times have you been driving, and you hear the beginning of Voodoo Child, and you think it's Jimi, and then you hear Stevie start singing ? Even Eric Clapton has said in interviews that he was actually "intimidated" to be on the same stage as Stevie (even though he's just as good, but has a sort of a fame and skill "denial"). I used to go to at least a dozen or more of the Allman Brothers shows when they held their "Spring Residency" at The Beacon. I remember back in 2009 when they had the 40th Anniversary, and if you know the Allman's, and Duane, and the story of how Clapton met them because he just HAD to find out who was playing guitar on the Wilson Pickett cover of Hey Jude, that's how Duane got involved with Clapton and the Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album made in Miami. Clapton was a special "Guest" at some of those shows. (Look up the videos, they're on here). He played Elizabeth Reed, Layla as an encore, and walking offstage with Derek Trucks after Liz Reed, Clapton said "I don't think I've played like that since 1969 !" It's worth taking the time to search it. Derek had the first guitar lead, Clapton had the second, and I almost felt bad for Warren Haynes who followed Eric, but he layed down some hot sauce man... It's incredible to hear, but to SEE them play it...check it out, you will NOT be disappointed !

I then investigated and became an instant Mule fan as well as a fan of Derecks unique slippery slider type style . it’s hard to describe . Duane was the teacher .. Skydog has a subtle way about his playing that gave me goose bumps the 1st time I heard it . yes I seem to remember Sonny Landreth also at those crossroads festivals. have you seen “ Red House “ done by Gary Moore and Dino Palladino at the Fender festival? yeah Eric is amazing. I’ve always liked early Rick Derringer . the Winter bros discs he contributed to as well
If you wanted to introduce Susan Tedeschi to someone who had never heard her this would be a great introduction. Been listening to her for several decades and she just keeps getting better with age.
Just saw them last night October 4th 2024 at the boch center in Boston and I went nuts dancing jumping around and grooving all over the arena hats off to the staff at the boch center wonderful and gracious to me tedeschi trucks band were phenomenal and I'll see tedeschi trucks band next time they come to Boston
Now that is the Susan I remember. Hope to see much more of it. When she hooked up with Derek she backed down a bit. Maybe it was just fitting in with his band and his style, but her deep blues roots went into the background a bit and I did not enjoy as much, but man she was thriving and driving on this one!!! Just like her solo days, deep gutsy blues. I pray there is more fronting by her at least on a few songs each set. No denying that Derek is one hell of a guitar player, but she is his equal on the blues where heart is more to the point than style or skill. They are both great, so lets see more of them shining.
Well, I don't know if anyone is Derek's equal in that regard - but Susan was speaking powerfully both figuratively and literally in the deep spirit of the blues. I agree with your point - it is what I've been feeling over the last couple of years. It's wonderful to see her so confident, so very assertively musical, and absolutely on top of her game. Seeing a husband and wife team of such incredible skill so thoroughly support one another is so deeply heart-warming. I can't wait to see them live - hoping they swing up through the PNW this year (thought they'd scheduled such a tour - but it seems to have been replaced (Europe?).
I agree completely. I discovered Susan Tedeschi at the first annual New Bedford whaling blues fest in 1999. She was awesome and did kick ass blues for 110 minutes uninterrupted. Been a fan ever since.
For someone that is somewhat of an inpath, this was an overload, The music.then the way he looks at her then her message at the end. I got Goosebumps tears, felt lonely, and tickled to death they found each other all at the same time, 🥵

We all know that Derek is the killer guitar player. Then Susan always seems to sneak up on you and drops a killer solo. Even Derek is smiling. Then Susan turns to Derek take that!
Got my son his first strat when he turned 15, got us a couple tickets to BBKing, Susan opened for him and stole the show w those big daisies on her guitar all sweet and pretty hiding this immense passion and soul and the way she ripped up those strings and poured her whole self into the mic and man what a show that was. 1998. She’s still got all that and more. And that show set my son on fire too, still rocking 24 years later, teaching and passing it on.
You know you are not gonna talk back to your wife after she had a rant like that. Derek knew that the spotlight was on Susan so he does not need to play solo. And as a guitar player, subduing yourself is a very hard thing to do, he was still pulling some short licks but not to take away his wifes shine. He was and will always be a class act.
Susan Tedeschi is completely amazing. The total package. Huge fan. First saw her at the Chesapeake Blues Festival after her first album came out. Way before TTB. She is the BOMB!
This band is new to me but I absolutely love Susan Tedeschi! She is amazing! So talented... I'm blown away by "I Pity The Fool"! She tears it up! And the look on Derek's face as he watches her performance is priceless!

Knowing how i loved the blues my brother turned me onto Susan way back. This band is loaded with talent. They so much remind me of Delaney and Bonnie from my teenage years. Enjoy the show!!!

I’m discovering old music and new music everyday… I love music and I especially love it when I find someone who feels every word they sing in their hands and legs and just loses control in the song snd this lady just did that and not only that but I felt it right here where I sit! Hey ... I watch too much YT. And a fair amount of that is TTB. I'd been worried - the chemistry seemed to have faded, the joy not all that present. But damn if this video didn't reassure me that the core of TTB is doing fine The loss of dearly loved band mates, the tragic and the more normal kinds of losses, surely put a strain on any group of musicians - often too much strain. I'm sure I'm reading more into this than is there ... but it seems they've rediscovered the joys of playing together once again. No stern looks, no lack of interpersonal engagement while playing, Susan getting back on her solo "horse" and riding that horse until it won't run no more ... Damn this was a fun video to watch ... and watch ... and watch again and again.

She kills me because she looks like a school librarian. She doesn't look like someone with the voice of one of the best rhythm and blues singers, ever known. It's always doubly impactful whenever I hear her. First, because she's so great. And secondly, because that voice isn't what's expected! And I love the unexpected! So, BOOM, Boom! Lol, love it!

Of the many ways this band warms my heart, knowing that someday (eventually) the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame will include a female trombone player tops the list. I think Elizabeth will join Cynthia Robinson (trumpet player for Sly & The Family Stone) as only the second woman horn player in the Hall -- brass or woodwind.
On a smoking performance, I look at the band mates reaction, in this case, her husband and he showed just how good she was.

The rewriting of the lyrics and then the execution of their delivery toward the end of the song was/is heroic for taking a stand.

@@andyj845 The kind of music the Tedeschi Trucks Band play is rooted in the folk/ blues tradition, and the 'counter culture' of the sixties and early seventies, which have an in-built left-wing stance. Nothing wrong with that, but when the pendulum swings, and the Bohemians become the Establishment, artists might do better to continue challenging the prevailing orthodoxy, which is at least part of their job. I would not want anyone to self-censor their views, but this did make me cringe a bit, even though I'm a liberal old hippy.

I Love Sue ! I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa before they created the Tedeschi Trucks Band. And yes, she was awesome ! She stayed after the show and took pictures with everyone and she signed my pink paisley telecaster and her CD . She is just as humble as she is a great guitar player & singer ! Rock on everyone & Happy Happy New Year !

Imagine being in a band that lifts you like that, and then being able to match the emotional intensity of a Derek Trucks solo with your voice, your passion and a completely different approach on guitar. I’ve seen them live twice and watched hundreds of their videos and that’s right up there with their best performances, and therefore, the best there has ever been in my eyes. Thank you thank you!
What a gentleman and what love! The rose at the end is a nice touch but quickly handing her a towel right after the song (and before grabbing one for himself) is true love and respect.
That LP sounds so much better in her hands than any Strat I ever heard her play. She was on fire that night! Derek was tickled. 😂

used to catch her at the Met cafe behind Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence when she was jus the Susan Tedesci blues band . we would sit on the front of the stage and have a 1 dollar draft beer and talk about blues .a more or less unknown guitarist named SRV was playing in front to a packed house ! early 80s I would say .. do you listen to very early Beth Hart ? not the covers . she also had “blues pipes “
@@robpattison6606 Big SRV fan here man. I'm in NY, seen him every time he was anywhere near here. One show that really stands out to me was when he played down on the Pier on the West side of Manhattan, next to where the Intrepid Ship is docked.
His brother Jimmy's band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened for SRV. Jimmy plays a lot of Clapton's Crossroads Tours now, and occasionally opens for him as well.
During Stevie's set, the band left the Stage, and a Roadie came out with a single chair. Stevie was handed a double neck guitar, and proceeds to start shredding the hell out of it (no real surprise there), but about 15 minutes later, Jimmy comes walking out on stage. He sort of stares at Stevie from Stevie's right, then walks around and does the same thing from the left. He looks out at the crowd, and basically motions like "Check my brother out...my Bro can JAM !!!" Then he walks behind Stevie, who's still sitting in that chair jamming. Jimmy leans over Stevie, and starts following Stevie's jam on the TOP NECK of the guitar. The two of them are going at it like crazy, almost having a "Guitar Duel", on the same guitar.
Needless to say, the crowd went insane. This was over 35 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Truly one of the most incredible moments I've ever seen, and I've seen all the "Guitar Gods" since the late 70s. But THAT was my most memorable Stevie Ray moment, and it was phenomenal ✌️
@@sandmanCQB8541 awesome ! was lucky enough to see him at a blues festival 3 months before the crash :( it was at what used to be “ great Woods “ Mansfield Ma w John Mayall , Robert Cray , but all I remember was the soaring leads coming from Stevie’s guitar during his set . @@robpattison6606 Oh HELL YEAH....Eric Gales is another (I hate to say "up and coming" cause he's got SERIOUS chops). Eric is amazing, and I don't know if it's just me, but I'm starting to see a LOT of guys that fall into the same category. And it's thru Clapton's Crossroads Tours that these guys are being given the opportunity they need and deserve, cause they're just KILLIN IT.
But back to what you said in your post about "the crash".... Fate is crazy. Stevie was playing with Clapton that night as I'm sure you know. And they discussed taking the chopper, Eric declined, and the rest is history, the unfortunate kind. At that point, Stevie had battled his demons, and cleaned up, and there was just SO much more that we would've gotten from him.
A lot of these new guys, like Eric Gales, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Gary Clark Jr, they're incredible musicians, and while they're probably not gonna get the same size crowd as an Eric Clapton, or that level, those guys can absolutely Headline at almost any venue. When Clapton rolled thru NY in '17, I had tickets for both nites because Chase Bank customers get to purchase a day early. I had the same Aisle seat in the 3rd and then 5th row, and Gary Clark opened, then Jimmy Vaughn, then Eric. Gary just killed it man. He had the crowd pumped up big time, and he's really cemented his place, as has Eric Gales, as a force to be reckoned with.
But as good as they are, none of them, and I even say, hardly ANYONE touches Stevie Ray. It's not really in dispute, even among the world's greatest guitarists, that Hendrix was THE best. He was on a level that was all his. Stevie Ray was just barely a hair away from there. How many times have you been driving, and you hear the beginning of Voodoo Child, and you think it's Jimi, and then you hear Stevie start singing ?
Even Eric Clapton has said in interviews that he was actually "intimidated" to be on the same stage as Stevie (even though he's just as good, but has a sort of a fame and skill "denial").
I used to go to at least a dozen or more of the Allman Brothers shows when they held their "Spring Residency" at The Beacon. I remember back in 2009 when they had the 40th Anniversary, and if you know the Allman's, and Duane, and the story of how Clapton met them because he just HAD to find out who was playing guitar on the Wilson Pickett cover of Hey Jude, that's how Duane got involved with Clapton and the Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album made in Miami. Clapton was a special "Guest" at some of those shows. (Look up the videos, they're on here). He played Elizabeth Reed, Layla as an encore, and walking offstage with Derek Trucks after Liz Reed, Clapton said "I don't think I've played like that since 1969 !" It's worth taking the time to search it. Derek had the first guitar lead, Clapton had the second, and I almost felt bad for Warren Haynes who followed Eric, but he layed down some hot sauce man... It's incredible to hear, but to SEE them play it...check it out, you will NOT be disappointed !
@@sandmanCQB8541 I recently was going thru u tube and the one and only ABB show I saw was recorded and put out “ as live at great woods “ it was the 1st time I had ever heard both Warren and Dereck also Allen Woody on bass ! they opened w “ Statesboro blues “ when directly into “ one way out “ , Wasted words “ good lord nobody sat down for 45 minutes. sounded jus like the Filmore disc ! I then investigated and became an instant Mule fan as well as a fan of Derecks unique slippery slider type style . it’s hard to describe . Duane was the teacher .. Skydog has a subtle way about his playing that gave me goose bumps the 1st time I heard it . yes I seem to remember Sonny Landreth also at those crossroads festivals. have you seen “ Red House “ done by Gary Moore and Dino Palladino at the Fender festival? yeah Eric is amazing. I’ve always liked early Rick Derringer . the Winter bros discs he contributed to as well
If you wanted to introduce Susan Tedeschi to someone who had never heard her this would be a great introduction. Been listening to her for several decades and she just keeps getting better with age.

Just saw them last night October 4th 2024 at the boch center in Boston and I went nuts dancing jumping around and grooving all over the arena hats off to the staff at the boch center wonderful and gracious to me tedeschi trucks band were phenomenal and I'll see tedeschi trucks band next time they come to Boston

Now that is the Susan I remember. Hope to see much more of it. When she hooked up with Derek she backed down a bit. Maybe it was just fitting in with his band and his style, but her deep blues roots went into the background a bit and I did not enjoy as much, but man she was thriving and driving on this one!!! Just like her solo days, deep gutsy blues. I pray there is more fronting by her at least on a few songs each set. No denying that Derek is one hell of a guitar player, but she is his equal on the blues where heart is more to the point than style or skill. They are both great, so lets see more of them shining.

Well, I don't know if anyone is Derek's equal in that regard - but Susan was speaking powerfully both figuratively and literally in the deep spirit of the blues. I agree with your point - it is what I've been feeling over the last couple of years. It's wonderful to see her so confident, so very assertively musical, and absolutely on top of her game. Seeing a husband and wife team of such incredible skill so thoroughly support one another is so deeply heart-warming.
I can't wait to see them live - hoping they swing up through the PNW this year (thought they'd scheduled such a tour - but it seems to have been replaced (Europe?).
Skill is all very well…very well indeed…but it exists to express our human heart and soul, which if missing, reduces skill to meaninglessness.

I agree completely. I discovered Susan Tedeschi at the first annual New Bedford whaling blues fest in 1999. She was awesome and did kick ass blues for 110 minutes uninterrupted. Been a fan ever since.
For someone that is somewhat of an inpath, this was an overload, The music.then the way he looks at her then her message at the end. I got Goosebumps tears, felt lonely, and tickled to death they found each other all at the same time, 🥵

Got my son his first strat when he turned 15, got us a couple tickets to BBKing, Susan opened for him and stole the show w those big daisies on her guitar all sweet and pretty hiding this immense passion and soul and the way she ripped up those strings and poured her whole self into the mic and man what a show that was. 1998. She’s still got all that and more. And that show set my son on fire too, still rocking 24 years later, teaching and passing it on.

You know you are not gonna talk back to your wife after she had a rant like that. Derek knew that the spotlight was on Susan so he does not need to play solo. And as a guitar player, subduing yourself is a very hard thing to do, he was still pulling some short licks but not to take away his wifes shine. He was and will always be a class act.
Susan Tedeschi is completely amazing. The total package. Huge fan. First saw her at the Chesapeake Blues Festival after her first album came out. Way before TTB. She is the BOMB!

Hey ... I watch too much YT. And a fair amount of that is TTB. I'd been worried - the chemistry seemed to have faded, the joy not all that present. But damn if this video didn't reassure me that the core of TTB is doing fine The loss of dearly loved band mates, the tragic and the more normal kinds of losses, surely put a strain on any group of musicians - often too much strain.
I'm sure I'm reading more into this than is there ... but it seems they've rediscovered the joys of playing together once again. No stern looks, no lack of interpersonal engagement while playing, Susan getting back on her solo "horse" and riding that horse until it won't run no more ... Damn this was a fun video to watch ... and watch ... and watch again and again.
