It really bugged me that out of the Quins Itsuki was the first to be introduced, but ended up being the least prioritized out of all of them. (Still crying up about nino.)

Had he shown all five together at the very start he’s would have had to still introduce each one individually, leading to the same “first girl” scenario (since he needs to choose which girl gets properly introduced first).

Nino blowing a kiss to Futaro almost knocked me out. She was easily the cutest, had the best storyline and in my opinion, the best girl of the show. The fact that she didn’t win breaks me.
I still can’t get over nino not winning i was raging while reading the manga and i had hope that he might change his mind until the end but the whole show was ruined for me
Ichika DID actually meet him when they were younger. She met him when they were at their grandpas spa. They played cards together. He Just didn't believe her because of the stunts she pulled. Which then incited that scene of her bawling her eyes out because she was actually telling the truth. As an Ichika stan, the later chapters with her really pulled on my heart stings. I wanted her to win so badly in the beginning. But she just did so much shady shit. I still stand by her, but totally understood why she wasn't picked.
I can't believe I finished season 1, season 2 and the manga in 1 whole day, what a rollercoaster of emotions and betrayal but despite the problems I have with the show, I had a great time being a miku stan till the end.

The MC says that Yotsuba was his inspiration at his lowest point in life. We also saw in the show that MC decided to turn his life around, to be "someone who was needed," after he met one of the Quintuplets as a child. This my speculation, but I believe this low point he was referring to was when he was a kid and was being left behind by his friends. Having an energetic, interactive soul step into his life and unconditionally spend time with him would have had a significantly positive impact on his life. And it did, hence his desire to be helpful. The major and only problem with this is that when he explained to Yotsuba why he chose her, was he aware the Yotsuba was the girl he met? It could have been any of the five girls. Hell, he didn't even realize he was playing cards with Ichika after meeting Yotsuba. While I can recognize this as his low point, his reason for choosing her is insignificant as it could be applied to all five of the girls provided he doesn't know which met him as a child. Also, Miku has my vote.
I don’t think it matters whether she was the girl from Kyoto or not. He chose Yotsuba because she changed him a lot. She was always pushing him to get out there and live his life with no regrets. I really do wish they would have shown her more in the anime, because she definitely was great for him, and they just didn’t give them any moments for some stupid reason

Yotsuba felt so random of a choice... Nino and Miku were the best possible endings as they were developed so well. Still a top tier manga and anime. Just slightly disappointing.
Nino had nice development but Miku had the most time cooking and needed a proper conclusion and it would’ve been good if Fuutarou learned to move on from the past and let go of “Rena” and realize that Miku truly loved him but that’s because I have a bais

@@zemox2534 He really did botch both Itsuki and Ichika. Worst is that he actually pat himself on the back for the Ichika debacle, apparently proud of the entire “Ichika becomes selfish” conflict. Without realizing it went entirely against her characterization at the start. The only two characters he seemed to enjoy writing organically were Miku and Yotsuba, and he had to stop himself from writing more Miku scenes because she had begun to take over the role of main heroine... except he kept writing future arcs with Miku being recognized as the main girl to beat by both Nino and Ichika.
The ending felt like the author also forgot that character for the entire of the series and then remembered that she exists in the end and for compensation he gave her the win

The 5th quarter of the manga chapters petrified my heart. When Itsuki realized her feelings too late, and then seeing that "Friends Forever" picture, my heart shattered.
The manga did Itsuki dirty by giving her that arch AFTER Fuutarou chose someone else. It felt like a douche move for her to do such a thing when things have already been decided. The author should have made that arc way earlier so at least Itsuki is still somewhat in the competition.
I feel like that would ruin the definitiveness of the story. The point of the story is "One will win, only one" but when you make 4-5 alt endings it doesn't really work with the established vibe
As an Itsuki fan, the manga left a really bitter taste. Throughout the whole series, the show always put Itsuki as the "center piece", the plot mover. She was the first girl, close friends with Raiha, she was being lead on as if she was Rena, and near the end, she was the only one who wasnt head over heels for Fuutarou. This gave so much potential to Itsuki's character to grow, in which they just said "sike, Yotsuba wins." Even in the selection scene, Itsuki starts talking as if she's the one who got chosen. Ofcourse, Itsuki fans got blue balled again. Also, the reasons Fuutarou gave for Yotsuba could easily be said about all the other quints. And Season 1 Yotsuba is nearly identical to ending Yotsuba, while all the other quints changed drastically. The author already said that he had Yotsuba planned to be the winner from the start because she was Rena and the first to support Fuutarou, but that doesnt mean you can just ignore her character development for the rest of the story. It kinda takes a piss on all the other character's development. Not to mention, the School Festival arc was kinda lame
Yotsuba changed a lot in the series. Just because she still felt hella guilty in the end doesn’t mean she didn’t get hella development. The lengths that woman would go through to self-sacrifice. And the final development of “you can be happy, your sister’s won’t hate you for choosing happiness” was magnificent. A classic trope. But Itsuki def was more a plot device. I thought her main point was to trick us into thinking she was going to win the entire series. But I held firm to my belief that Yotsuba was gonna win from Chaoter like 40

miku is boring , no changes, she is the same thing that u can find in any romance genre series female, girls like yotsuba, nino ,ichika atleast they have changes , different sides are shown as show progresses
I feel the ending was a perfect case study of the manga writer having an outcome planned from the beginning but failing to follow through due to their own misjudgment about that character's importance. Just because the author loves the character and wants them to win doesn't necessarily mean they deserve to. Especially not when they're the one who gets lost in the fog among all their competitors who outshine them. Every "winner" when it comes to a multiple-choice romance story needs to earn that spot. And sadly, the "winner" of this manga/anime didn't earn her spot. It was handed to her by the author in a ham-fisted way that didn't naturally or dynamically resonate with anyone due to a lack of "Show, Don't Tell" (which you alluded to when you pointed out that the male protag's "lowest point" was never addressed in the manga or anime and she was never shown to help him out of it).
Yotsuba always helped him and her sisters without thinking herself. She was the first girl that changed him but Futaro doesn't even know that and that's not that important. She was the one who accepted his tutoring and helped him to others to show up. She had the feelings for Futaro of course but thought she was outshined by other sisters, and helped Miku who was the shyest one to get her feelings for Futaro. Just because it has an unique ending and an unanticipated girl win doesn't mean it is not deserved. We need more show like this where everything is not sealed from the start. Normally there is no way to a type of Yotsuba to win in harem animes, it is the norm, so this anime broke that norm and did a good job. Yotsuba might not have that much time with Futaro and that was intentional to make you think that every girl has a chance. While Yotsuba may seem the least time spent beside itsuki she is the most impactful nonetheless. Futaro's belly laugh in the park is just enough how Futaro feels comfortable with Yotsuba. And let's be honest, Yotsuba is the best wife material be it her selflessness, energetic, helpful and always smiling and caring nature. She is all a man could have asked for.

To me it felt like yotsuba was just a support character. I honestly think the main reason she won was just because she was the just girl Futaro met in his childhood. Almost all the sisters seemed to love him equally and had a lot of determination, and to be honest I literally thought Yotsuba was the only sister who didnt have feelings for him...I wouldn't mind the ending if we seen Yotsuba spend for time with him because to me, the ending was unsatisfying(But I guess thats subjective). I also still don't know what lowest point she helped him out with was tho.
I literally would have been happy with the ending if Futaro ended up with any of the other 4 XD Yotsuba x Futaro just simply didn't get the screen time/panels to have their relationships developed like all of the others did. It made for a bitter pill to swallow especially after the author put an emphasis on letting go of the past. This series deserves a visual novel treatment.
I've heard rumors about an anime original ending, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for that The biggest change would probably only be the removal of the end bit (Spoiler) The part where he woke up from the dream and it looked like an open ended ending
Technically, Ichika did meet Fuutarou when they we're young. When they we're in that place in where they played cards he met Ichika. So Fuutarou met two girls. Yotsuba in that shrine and then Ichika at that place.
I least expected Yotasuba to win in the end, I had such great odds for the winner to be just not her, I would've been even happier with any other person and even with my 80% chance of success, I was wrong and I'm shattered
QQ was my first and last harem anime/manga, when even one as good as this one can end badly, really turns me off from getting into any others. You basically hit the nail on the head with the problems with the ending between the reasons for picking yotsuba could be used for several of the other quints or the fact that she lacked moments compared to the others including Itsuki whom we see never actually had a chance. I guess that's another thing, at the end you know Itsuki and Ichika have no chance, so you just have it between the 2 best girls(Miku and Nino) who are also by a huge margin the most popular girls vs. Yotsuba and then are given the most heartbreaking Miku and Nino faces on top of the terrible reasoning for why Yotsuba wins and it just feels both poorly executed and depressing. I've seen some people say that Neji admitted to using Itsuki as a plot device, along with favoring Miku and Yotsuba, and that kind of makes it worse as the sheer volume of Miku moments exploded her popularity way beyond the other quints. Neji really could have given more moments to Yotsuba. We see with Nino that great moments can really get people behind a quint that was at first unlikeable. Imagine what it could have done for Yotsuba that really didn't have any hate. I could go on, but not really a point unless the anime has an anime original ending.

As soon as Itsuki was introduced until the end, I just assumed her role in the story was to be the red herring. She was always positioned slightly above the other sisters. It felt like she was going to be the obvious one the MC ends up with. BUT... because the story begins with the wedding, I just knew it was never going to be her from the start. She is the red herring quint.
I'm a firm believer that we could get other non-cannon endings at the end (something like Clannad case). This is the copium that keeps me alive (btw, nino gang who up)
I was rooting for Miku/Nino because they had the most development and the strongest feelings. But Yotsuba? Whaaaat? It was a surprise that Fuutaro chose her. She didn't have much development like the other two. I had mixed feelings for the end too. One girl is happy, the other four are sad and still love Fuutaro even after five years during the marriage ceremony. We need multiple endings for each girl.

Actually they did specifically show the "You helped me out of a hard time" event in the anime, it was a flashback memory of him & Yotsuba talking to each other at the shrine as children. The advice she gave him turned him from miscreant upstart to academic MVP, she quite literally saved him from himself...

When I read the manga, I honestly didn’t care who won. I loved each of them respectively that I would’ve been happy with whoever was the winner. Nino is great, Ichika(she apologized. I still love her. I love her chill personality) is great, Miku is great, Itsuki is great, and Yotsuba is great. They’re all great with their own respective traits. Even after Ichika ruined Mikus confession, she learned that playing dirty and being a slimy lying snake doesn’t always work, as she got shit on by Fuutarou. She decided to help with Miku’s confession as a means of saying sorry, as well as legitimately saying sorry to Miku. I still loved her even after what she did. Even though the ending was super lackluster, I was super happy for Yotsuba. Even though she had some of the biggest plot armor I have ever seen in any manga or anime, I was still happy for her. But it was because she had the most positive impact on Fuutarou’s life. She constantly supported him throughout his time tutoring the quints. She’s the reason he became the super mega loner nerd he is. She was fun, energetic, hardworking, optimistic, but most importantly for me, she’s understanding. If it wasn’t for her, Fuutarou prolly would have given up on the quints. But since Yotsuba was always there to support him, he was able to push through and help the quints graduate. Love is most often found within those who’ve made the most positive impact on ones life. If I was Fuutarou, I prolly would have done the same. When I’m reading manga or watching anime, my enjoyment always comes first. If I’m able to enjoy an anime or manga, it’s served it’s purpose. Was Quintessential Quintuplets good? Very. Did I enjoy it? Much so. Did it have its problems? Most definitely so. But just because a show has its problems, doesn’t mean it’s bad.
WARNING: THE FOLLOWING COMMENT CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR NON MANGA FANS. . According to me most people are unable to understand why Fuutarou chose Yotsuba. The entire story can be taken into 2 parts the side of the quints and fuutarou's side. When Fuutarou entered their lives all of them experienced some kind of change but out of those 5 the one who made the biggest change in Fuutarou's life was Yotsuba. We need to stop looking at it from the perspective of a third person and look at it from the Fuutarou's perspective. If it wasnt for Yotsuba he probably would have given up at the beginning. She pushed him into becomming the class rep which made him have a different opinion on school life. In chapter 86 he thanks rena saying if he hadnt met her he probably would have been alone his entire life, even though he didnt know who rena was among the quints he knew that Yotsuba was the catalyst that has been causing all these changes in his life. Miku and Nino have the best arcs because by meeting Fuutarou they discovered themselves and thats why they fell in love with him but if you reverse the perspective Miku and Nino did make Fuutarou a more sensitive person but didnt cause the way of change Yotsuba did. I do understand that Yotsuba herself didnt change the way everyone else did but she didnt have to , she pushed fuutaro out of his comfort zone and showed him what more to life there is and for that he was thankful. During his confession he said that it is his selfish wish that yotsuba stood besides him as without her he would have collapsed long ago. Yeah so that was what i took from the story, I could be wrong so feel free to correct me. I was team miku btw.
Finally someone thjnks about it from futaros perspective lol nino is my favorite in the show but if I had to choose one of them to be w in real life I'd choose yotsuba EVERY time because she's fun positive gets me out of my comfort zone, keeps me going, selfless , and I can be playful w her and act like a child w her, and she's like a supportive best friend ,,, would I be flattered cause the other girls like me and confess to me of course but its usually the supportive friend that doesn't show romantic feelings that you end up falling for and yotsuba was all that 💖
Bro they are just salty and biased. Because it broke the law of the harem animes' ending norm. The one who one was most unanticipated won the race. It is literally impossible for a type of Yotsuba to win in harem animes. So fans just got slapped in the cheek for it being unique and give the actual best waifu win, getting out of the norms. Yotsuba is literally best wife material. Fans are so used to get the generic girls to win. The only thing I was sad about I would want more to see the time within that 5 years pass and the honeymoon later on, so that other fans could also cooled down and like Yotsuba more.
@@pingunataunique does not equal good. It doesn't matter if from the main characters perspective it makes sense, the manga is meant to be read by an audience. Why not show all of that development to the audience instead of sidelining that character for almost the entirety of the story. If they had just showed more moments between the two characters than no one would have a problem with it, totsuba only ended up with the mc because the author literally decided it when he started the manga

@@Rhaasen I am biased towards the manga. I think that the anime is underbudgeted and often looks off for me, but my friend thinks it looks great. :shrug:. If I try to be unbiased I can only say that manga is really good and fun to read.
My problem with it was that, it was never a mystery. the winner was the childhood friend that helped him change. The author could've change it to him knowing and playing with the 5 girls thinking they were just one. That would be an actual mystery who he chooses. But nope, he just said @he is gonna marry Yotsuba, but Im giving him time with the other girls to make the story as long as possible@
What's funny about that ending is the fact that Itsuki flatout tells Yotsuba to tell Futaro it was her he met all those years ago, kinda killing the point of the mystery.
The author wanted to change the ending in the Anime. Which if he still does want to do that it will be Nino or Miku who will be the bride. So we still have hope!
@@Erick-st9rt Just because the studio is the ones who animate it, it doesn't mean they can change the series as they want. It's not their series, it was their own decision to animate the series, which doesn't mean they can make it their own series.
Thanks for the review or explanation in my case, I was really confused of the way after the credits in the anime showed Itsuki kissing Futaro and how he was talking about her. I agree so much. I'm not even going to go into full detail about how Yotusba definitely deserved to win. Just go to r/5toubun and look up the dozens of essays explaining how Yotsuba was the sister that stood alongside Futaro throughout the entire series, from beginning to end. As to what was Futaro's lowest point? Basically the entire story, he had to find himself, and the one who helped him achieve that was Yotsuba. The girl who supported him the most and not the other way around.
There should have been an ending where at the mariage, the other sisters came one by one in the church with a wedding outfit and there all like « why are you here, i’m the one whose suppose to marry him » and then Futaro tries to run away but the quintuplets try to run after him and it ends there to give every fan the time they need to imagine their perfect ending
That would be lazy and boring. you've seen it a hundred times. While logically not everyone will be happy with the ending no matter who wins, it's definitely better to have a clear ending. People will be happy for Yotzuba and at the same time mourn for the others who didn't win. But unfortunately that is the nature of love and relationships and accepting that and also understanding how painful it can be is shown extremely well in this series
Yeah. People also forget she was the one who was routing for Miku at first and tried to help her but Miku was too much of a coward. Ichika is also the only one who's never given Fuutaro a hard time. From the get go she was supportive of him before even knowing he was their Tutor.

Yeah the anime did her a little dirty. For example when they said she was the girl futaro knew (rena), it's a big thing in the manga. Followed up by all the reasons why she can't or doesn't wanna tell futaro they know each other. (Low self esteem, depression, not finding worth in living) while in the anime it's more like "oh hey me and futaro knew each other but i'm not gonna tell him cuz i'm selfish and stupid." I am on team Yotsuba and Ichika (tho the other girls were really likeable as well so i respect anyone's opinion.) But i do know that she doesn't get that much screentime and is more written off as a side charcter for a big part of the series. I already knew who was gonna win before i read and watched, so i began paying more attention to HER from the very beginning. So i can understand why it comes out of the blue to the people who didn't know. She was a wasted opportunity and that's really sad, but nonetheless she was really likeable!!
Ever since the manga was done there was a little conflict in people's hearts about the ending. As a Futaro x Miku stan I was quite bitter with the ending and hoped to have a "We Never Learn" multiple endings 😭😭😭. That wouldve been so good... but as well I kinda appreciate the ending in the manga cuz Yotsuba's case is that no one really notices her. And you said "oh I didn't even realize she's here" in the anime. Which I think is what the vibe of the animators and writer was going for. Shes essentially supposed to be a rick roll when you least expect it. Since we all expected that Itsuki is "main girl" and will probably win. In the end we get to have the ending of a 2nd rate middle child who gets little screen time due to the fact they are hiding the chances of fuutarou being with her. I really like Yotsuba but I dont think anyone expected her to win. 😅😅😅 which is honestly funny to me. Ive watched so much harem anime and theres always the main girl winning and I liked how refreshing it is that the girl who is most under represented, not main girl, but also not the most loved in the fandom (Miku and Nino) gets to win. Just the normal, awkward girl who wants her sisters to win rather than herself. Yotsuba is the epitomy of generousity and I believe that her development comes from needing to be more selfish with her sisters. But not to the point of Ichika's selfishness. A selfishness that's pure and kind that she can still have hope that someone like Futarou will notice her among the other girls. She is after all the first to become selfish out of all of them, starting by wearing a ribbon and changing her hair. She wanted to be more individualistic and the others strayed away like she did. Yotsuba is generous but shes also the most selfish character in the whole series. Which is kinda ironic. A lot of people say she won because she's fuutarous first love but I believe Yotsuba is still great without the first love arc because she's the girl who cried "notice me senpai". 😝👍 thanks for listening to my TED talk. let's be honest here out of all five of them none of them are really selfish, yotsuba might be the least one since throughout the final chapters she literally tried to avoid and let the sisters hang out with him instead. She cared so much about him as she is with her sisters and even so she can't deny her feelings for him, Yotsuba was one of the character who cared for Uesugi the most since the beginning, who stuck by his side no matter what, though i respect your opinion but i gotta let you know the ending was fine-written and made sense

SPOILER RANT I Honestly like how itsuki doeesn't get a confession scene or even much of any shows of affection towards fuutaro . She simply doesn't like him as much as the others which is a pretty normal thing in life . At the start of the show i thought that itsuki would be the one who ends up with fuutaro despite vastly preffering miku simply because of harem anime tropes as basically the first one to be introduced which made this a fresh change of pace. Anyway great video.
Itsuki is my second favorite quint behind Miku. Seeing her develop into a independent woman and learning to become her own person rather than trying to be the mother figure amongst the quints was nice
Finished reading the whole thing a second time this morning. If you look up the phrase "did him/her dirty", Nino's Pic would be right next to it as example A. She had the most complete character development arc of any (miku being a strong second) but is the only one not get any sort of meaningful resolution or closure. Her moment in the final "quintuplet game" is still an emotional sledgehammer blow to the balls.
I am very satisfied with with the ending why because it ended leaving me with a hole in my stomach and having to to think and that’s the best thing that an ending could’ve done for me

Ichika DID actually meet him when they were younger. She met him when they were at their grandpas spa. They played cards together. He Just didn't believe her because of the stunts she pulled. Which then incited that scene of her bawling her eyes out because she was actually telling the truth. As an Ichika stan, the later chapters with her really pulled on my heart stings. I wanted her to win so badly in the beginning. But she just did so much shady shit. I still stand by her, but totally understood why she wasn't picked.

The MC says that Yotsuba was his inspiration at his lowest point in life. We also saw in the show that MC decided to turn his life around, to be "someone who was needed," after he met one of the Quintuplets as a child. This my speculation, but I believe this low point he was referring to was when he was a kid and was being left behind by his friends. Having an energetic, interactive soul step into his life and unconditionally spend time with him would have had a significantly positive impact on his life. And it did, hence his desire to be helpful.
The major and only problem with this is that when he explained to Yotsuba why he chose her, was he aware the Yotsuba was the girl he met? It could have been any of the five girls. Hell, he didn't even realize he was playing cards with Ichika after meeting Yotsuba. While I can recognize this as his low point, his reason for choosing her is insignificant as it could be applied to all five of the girls provided he doesn't know which met him as a child.
Also, Miku has my vote.

@@zemox2534 He really did botch both Itsuki and Ichika. Worst is that he actually pat himself on the back for the Ichika debacle, apparently proud of the entire “Ichika becomes selfish” conflict. Without realizing it went entirely against her characterization at the start.
The only two characters he seemed to enjoy writing organically were Miku and Yotsuba, and he had to stop himself from writing more Miku scenes because she had begun to take over the role of main heroine... except he kept writing future arcs with Miku being recognized as the main girl to beat by both Nino and Ichika.

The 5th quarter of the manga chapters petrified my heart. When Itsuki realized her feelings too late, and then seeing that "Friends Forever" picture, my heart shattered.
The manga did Itsuki dirty by giving her that arch AFTER Fuutarou chose someone else. It felt like a douche move for her to do such a thing when things have already been decided. The author should have made that arc way earlier so at least Itsuki is still somewhat in the competition.
I just hope Miku gets a happy ending of Some sort

As an Itsuki fan, the manga left a really bitter taste.
Throughout the whole series, the show always put Itsuki as the "center piece", the plot mover. She was the first girl, close friends with Raiha, she was being lead on as if she was Rena, and near the end, she was the only one who wasnt head over heels for Fuutarou. This gave so much potential to Itsuki's character to grow, in which they just said "sike, Yotsuba wins." Even in the selection scene, Itsuki starts talking as if she's the one who got chosen. Ofcourse, Itsuki fans got blue balled again.
Also, the reasons Fuutarou gave for Yotsuba could easily be said about all the other quints. And Season 1 Yotsuba is nearly identical to ending Yotsuba, while all the other quints changed drastically. The author already said that he had Yotsuba planned to be the winner from the start because she was Rena and the first to support Fuutarou, but that doesnt mean you can just ignore her character development for the rest of the story. It kinda takes a piss on all the other character's development.
Not to mention, the School Festival arc was kinda lame

Yotsuba changed a lot in the series. Just because she still felt hella guilty in the end doesn’t mean she didn’t get hella development. The lengths that woman would go through to self-sacrifice. And the final development of “you can be happy, your sister’s won’t hate you for choosing happiness” was magnificent. A classic trope.
But Itsuki def was more a plot device. I thought her main point was to trick us into thinking she was going to win the entire series. But I held firm to my belief that Yotsuba was gonna win from Chaoter like 40

I feel the ending was a perfect case study of the manga writer having an outcome planned from the beginning but failing to follow through due to their own misjudgment about that character's importance. Just because the author loves the character and wants them to win doesn't necessarily mean they deserve to. Especially not when they're the one who gets lost in the fog among all their competitors who outshine them. Every "winner" when it comes to a multiple-choice romance story needs to earn that spot. And sadly, the "winner" of this manga/anime didn't earn her spot. It was handed to her by the author in a ham-fisted way that didn't naturally or dynamically resonate with anyone due to a lack of "Show, Don't Tell" (which you alluded to when you pointed out that the male protag's "lowest point" was never addressed in the manga or anime and she was never shown to help him out of it).

Yotsuba always helped him and her sisters without thinking herself. She was the first girl that changed him but Futaro doesn't even know that and that's not that important. She was the one who accepted his tutoring and helped him to others to show up. She had the feelings for Futaro of course but thought she was outshined by other sisters, and helped Miku who was the shyest one to get her feelings for Futaro. Just because it has an unique ending and an unanticipated girl win doesn't mean it is not deserved. We need more show like this where everything is not sealed from the start. Normally there is no way to a type of Yotsuba to win in harem animes, it is the norm, so this anime broke that norm and did a good job. Yotsuba might not have that much time with Futaro and that was intentional to make you think that every girl has a chance. While Yotsuba may seem the least time spent beside itsuki she is the most impactful nonetheless. Futaro's belly laugh in the park is just enough how Futaro feels comfortable with Yotsuba.
And let's be honest, Yotsuba is the best wife material be it her selflessness, energetic, helpful and always smiling and caring nature. She is all a man could have asked for.

To me it felt like yotsuba was just a support character. I honestly think the main reason she won was just because she was the just girl Futaro met in his childhood. Almost all the sisters seemed to love him equally and had a lot of determination, and to be honest I literally thought Yotsuba was the only sister who didnt have feelings for him...I wouldn't mind the ending if we seen Yotsuba spend for time with him because to me, the ending was unsatisfying(But I guess thats subjective). I also still don't know what lowest point she helped him out with was tho.

Yotsuba x Futaro just simply didn't get the screen time/panels to have their relationships developed like all of the others did. It made for a bitter pill to swallow especially after the author put an emphasis on letting go of the past.

I least expected Yotasuba to win in the end, I had such great odds for the winner to be just not her, I would've been even happier with any other person and even with my 80% chance of success, I was wrong and I'm shattered
QQ was my first and last harem anime/manga, when even one as good as this one can end badly, really turns me off from getting into any others.
You basically hit the nail on the head with the problems with the ending between the reasons for picking yotsuba could be used for several of the other quints or the fact that she lacked moments compared to the others including Itsuki whom we see never actually had a chance.
I guess that's another thing, at the end you know Itsuki and Ichika have no chance, so you just have it between the 2 best girls(Miku and Nino) who are also by a huge margin the most popular girls vs. Yotsuba and then are given the most heartbreaking Miku and Nino faces on top of the terrible reasoning for why Yotsuba wins and it just feels both poorly executed and depressing.
I've seen some people say that Neji admitted to using Itsuki as a plot device, along with favoring Miku and Yotsuba, and that kind of makes it worse as the sheer volume of Miku moments exploded her popularity way beyond the other quints. Neji really could have given more moments to Yotsuba. We see with Nino that great moments can really get people behind a quint that was at first unlikeable. Imagine what it could have done for Yotsuba that really didn't have any hate. I could go on, but not really a point unless the anime has an anime original ending.

As soon as Itsuki was introduced until the end, I just assumed her role in the story was to be the red herring. She was always positioned slightly above the other sisters. It felt like she was going to be the obvious one the MC ends up with. BUT... because the story begins with the wedding, I just knew it was never going to be her from the start. She is the red herring quint.

When I read the manga, I honestly didn’t care who won. I loved each of them respectively that I would’ve been happy with whoever was the winner. Nino is great, Ichika(she apologized. I still love her. I love her chill personality) is great, Miku is great, Itsuki is great, and Yotsuba is great. They’re all great with their own respective traits. Even after Ichika ruined Mikus confession, she learned that playing dirty and being a slimy lying snake doesn’t always work, as she got shit on by Fuutarou. She decided to help with Miku’s confession as a means of saying sorry, as well as legitimately saying sorry to Miku. I still loved her even after what she did. Even though the ending was super lackluster, I was super happy for Yotsuba. Even though she had some of the biggest plot armor I have ever seen in any manga or anime, I was still happy for her. Love is most often found within those who’ve made the most positive impact on ones life. If I was Fuutarou, I prolly would have done the same. When I’m reading manga or watching anime, my enjoyment always comes first. If I’m able to enjoy an anime or manga, it’s served it’s purpose. Was Quintessential Quintuplets good? Very. Did I enjoy it? Much so. Did it have its problems? Most definitely so. But just because a show has its problems, doesn’t mean it’s bad.

According to me most people are unable to understand why Fuutarou chose Yotsuba. The entire story can be taken into 2 parts the side of the quints and fuutarou's side. When Fuutarou entered their lives all of them experienced some kind of change but out of those 5 the one who made the biggest change in Fuutarou's life was Yotsuba. We need to stop looking at it from the perspective of a third person and look at it from the Fuutarou's perspective. If it wasnt for Yotsuba he probably would have given up at the beginning. She pushed him into becomming the class rep which made him have a different opinion on school life. In chapter 86 he thanks rena saying if he hadnt met her he probably would have been alone his entire life, even though he didnt know who rena was among the quints he knew that Yotsuba was the catalyst that has been causing all these changes in his life. Miku and Nino have the best arcs because by meeting Fuutarou they discovered themselves and thats why they fell in love with him but if you reverse the perspective Miku and Nino did make Fuutarou a more sensitive person but didnt cause the way of change Yotsuba did. I do understand that Yotsuba herself didnt change the way everyone else did but she didnt have to , she pushed fuutaro out of his comfort zone and showed him what more to life there is and for that he was thankful. During his confession he said that it is his selfish wish that yotsuba stood besides him as without her he would have collapsed long ago.

Finally someone thjnks about it from futaros perspective lol nino is my favorite in the show but if I had to choose one of them to be w in real life I'd choose yotsuba EVERY time because she's fun positive gets me out of my comfort zone, keeps me going, selfless , and I can be playful w her and act like a child w her, and she's like a supportive best friend ,,, would I be flattered cause the other girls like me and confess to me of course but its usually the supportive friend that doesn't show romantic feelings that you end up falling for and yotsuba was all that 💖
Bro they are just salty and biased. Because it broke the law of the harem animes' ending norm. The one who one was most unanticipated won the race. It is literally impossible for a type of Yotsuba to win in harem animes. So fans just got slapped in the cheek for it being unique and give the actual best waifu win, getting out of the norms. Yotsuba is literally best wife material. Fans are so used to get the generic girls to win. The only thing I was sad about I would want more to see the time within that 5 years pass and the honeymoon later on, so that other fans could also cooled down and like Yotsuba more.

@@pingunataunique does not equal good. It doesn't matter if from the main characters perspective it makes sense, the manga is meant to be read by an audience. Why not show all of that development to the audience instead of sidelining that character for almost the entirety of the story. If they had just showed more moments between the two characters than no one would have a problem with it, totsuba only ended up with the mc because the author literally decided it when he started the manga

My problem with it was that, it was never a mystery. the winner was the childhood friend that helped him change.
The author could've change it to him knowing and playing with the 5 girls thinking they were just one. That would be an actual mystery who he chooses.

What's funny about that ending is the fact that Itsuki flatout tells Yotsuba to tell Futaro it was her he met all those years ago, kinda killing the point of the mystery.

Thanks for the review or explanation in my case, I was really confused of the way after the credits in the anime showed Itsuki kissing Futaro and how he was talking about her. I agree so much. I'm not even going to go into full detail about how Yotusba definitely deserved to win. Just go to r/5toubun and look up the dozens of essays explaining how Yotsuba was the sister that stood alongside Futaro throughout the entire series, from beginning to end. As to what was Futaro's lowest point? Basically the entire story, he had to find himself, and the one who helped him achieve that was Yotsuba. The girl who supported him the most and not the other way around.

There should have been an ending where at the mariage, the other sisters came one by one in the church with a wedding outfit and there all like « why are you here, i’m the one whose suppose to marry him » and then Futaro tries to run away but the quintuplets try to run after him and it ends there to give every fan the time they need to imagine their perfect ending
That would be lazy and boring. you've seen it a hundred times. While logically not everyone will be happy with the ending no matter who wins, it's definitely better to have a clear ending. People will be happy for Yotzuba and at the same time mourn for the others who didn't win. But unfortunately that is the nature of love and relationships and accepting that and also understanding how painful it can be is shown extremely well in this series

Yeah the anime did her a little dirty. For example when they said she was the girl futaro knew (rena), it's a big thing in the manga. Followed up by all the reasons why she can't or doesn't wanna tell futaro they know each other. (Low self esteem, depression, not finding worth in living) while in the anime it's more like "oh hey me and futaro knew each other but i'm not gonna tell him cuz i'm selfish and stupid." I am on team Yotsuba and Ichika (tho the other girls were really likeable as well so i respect anyone's opinion.) But i do know that she doesn't get that much screentime and is more written off as a side charcter for a big part of the series. I already knew who was gonna win before i read and watched, so i began paying more attention to HER from the very beginning. So i can understand why it comes out of the blue to the people who didn't know. She was a wasted opportunity and that's really sad, but nonetheless she was really likeable!!
Ever since the manga was done there was a little conflict in people's hearts about the ending. As a Futaro x Miku stan I was quite bitter with the ending and hoped to have a "We Never Learn" multiple endings 😭😭😭. That wouldve been so good... but as well I kinda appreciate the ending in the manga cuz Yotsuba's case is that no one really notices her. And you said "oh I didn't even realize she's here" in the anime. Which I think is what the vibe of the animators and writer was going for. Shes essentially supposed to be a rick roll when you least expect it. Since we all expected that Itsuki is "main girl" and will probably win. In the end we get to have the ending of a 2nd rate middle child who gets little screen time due to the fact they are hiding the chances of fuutarou being with her. I really like Yotsuba but I dont think anyone expected her to win. 😅😅😅 which is honestly funny to me. Ive watched so much harem anime and theres always the main girl winning and I liked how refreshing it is that the girl who is most under represented, not main girl, but also not the most loved in the fandom (Miku and Nino) gets to win. Just the normal, awkward girl who wants her sisters to win rather than herself. Yotsuba is the epitomy of generousity and I believe that her development comes from needing to be more selfish with her sisters. But not to the point of Ichika's selfishness. A selfishness that's pure and kind that she can still have hope that someone like Futarou will notice her among the other girls. She is after all the first to become selfish out of all of them, starting by wearing a ribbon and changing her hair. She wanted to be more individualistic and the others strayed away like she did. Yotsuba is generous but shes also the most selfish character in the whole series. Which is kinda ironic. A lot of people say she won because she's fuutarous first love but I believe Yotsuba is still great without the first love arc because she's the girl who cried "notice me senpai". 😝👍 thanks for listening to my TED talk.

let's be honest here out of all five of them none of them are really selfish, yotsuba might be the least one since throughout the final chapters she literally tried to avoid and let the sisters hang out with him instead. She cared so much about him as she is with her sisters and even so she can't deny her feelings for him, Yotsuba was one of the character who cared for Uesugi the most since the beginning, who stuck by his side no matter what, though i respect your opinion but i gotta let you know the ending was fine-written and made sense

I Honestly like how itsuki doeesn't get a confession scene or even much of any shows of affection towards fuutaro .
She simply doesn't like him as much as the others which is a pretty normal thing in life .
At the start of the show i thought that itsuki would be the one who ends up with fuutaro despite vastly preffering miku simply because of harem anime tropes as basically the first one to be introduced which made this a fresh change of pace.
Anyway great video.
Itsuki is my second favorite quint behind Miku. Seeing her develop into a independent woman and learning to become her own person rather than trying to be the mother figure amongst the quints was nice

Finished reading the whole thing a second time this morning. If you look up the phrase "did him/her dirty", Nino's Pic would be right next to it as example A. She had the most complete character development arc of any (miku being a strong second) but is the only one not get any sort of meaningful resolution or closure. Her moment in the final "quintuplet game" is still an emotional sledgehammer blow to the balls.
