It is absolutely the hardest thing to learn in golf, but once you get the feel, you will need to practice the sequence over and over. It's all about timing. And don't swing too hard.
You are my only teacher that has helped online, and i searched this feel 22hrs after you uploaded unprompted 😂, you simplified swing thoughts have helped unbelievably, the laser from the chest center to the hands has been a revelation
Appreciate that guys in the clinic are willing to front the camera and figure out the instruction. Inspiration for mere mortals working on the same issue. Many thanks.
I think everyone should turn their back to the target, hit one, then face the target and try to hit one. You’ll see it’s almost impossible to hit the ball while facing the target but so much easier when your back is to the target. Great lesson
I always had this problem, but what was shocking to me when watching myself was how prevalent and noticeable it was even when i was hitting little 25 yard pitch shots. This makes a lot of sense to me now because I definitely focus on all body turn! Thanks for a good explanation.
I saw this in a previous video of yours (putting a ball in the periphery behind me) and used it at the range last time I went (admittedly 4 weeks ago now!) it massively helped ❤
I like the sound of keeping the back turned away facing a ball behind. To be clear: you want the ball behind you to be on the ball to target line? When I've done disassociation drills I find it works best when I think about the lower abs or obliques pulling behind me in a straight line forces type of way as opposed to the hips themselves. Is there any reason you can think of why abs or obliques wouldn't be a good area to think about for the disassociation?
We just try to keep it incredibly basic what happens below the belt(lower body), and what happens above the belt(upper body)… we could absolutely cater that instruction to whoever’s in front of us if they like, thinking about specific muscles to make the move easier on them. As far as the drill, you can put the ball a good 2 feet behind the ball you’re hitting (on the ball line) and it can also help straighten out your takeaway on the way back or you can just put the ball between your feet and the ball 2 feet behind you and just keep your chest facing that longer! Very simple drill I use that helps many people with this!
I learned originally from Hogan's book, where it is hands, arms, shoulders, hips on the backswing, and then reverse, hips, shoulders, arms hands, on the downswing. Clearly this is not the same as what is being taught here! I am wondering what the shoulders are really doing on the downswing, other than holding the arms?
I’ve incorporated so much of the Porzak Golf techniques into my swing for the better! I still struggle with firing the hands with the hips. Hips, no problem, but the hands?!?! To stay connected, the hands stay in front of the sternum as you rotate throughout the swing per another important Porzak lesson. So what muscles and motions are used to fire the hands while the back stays to the target and the sternum points to the prop ball? Triceps pull down? Shoulder rotation absent chest rotation? Shoulder vertical pull down? Some combination? Something else? Appreciate any thoughts or tips on this aspect!
I shot 76 in a round three years ago with 3 birdies. My only swing thought was keeping the back towards target and swing the club under my lead armpit. And I wasn’t sure if that’s the right idea but it worked.
@porzak golf. I understand this swing thought. I think both do work though, you just have to pick which one. Milo lines for example teaches the swing you say is bad and he hits it a mile and straight
Great video great drills but my advice (having only taught 2 people!) would be to use a Tee Peg to start with, being a reasonable player im lucky enough to do these drills without Fear of Ball Contact but most will need a tee peg as i have found out teaching step drills etc to newbies
So I have an issue where I start the round with a draw but start to push shots out to the right towards the end of my round. It feels as if when my body loosens up, it ends up racing past my arms on the downswing which leaves the clubface open at impact. Going to try this drill next time on the range 🤞 So fired up the sim and tried this drill, WOw! What a difference! By keeping the chest down and turning the hips I felt the release and the torque I felt on the finish was amazing.
I'm 48 and constantly wondered why my swing got more on plane as the round went on. Well I get there 15 mins prior to the round and putt. That does nothing for my hips or get my body looser. I'm finding it easier to disassociate after I stretch a little bit and take some half swings with a small bucket on the range. I wonder if Adam has a pre-round routine for us 40 to 50 year old's to get warmed up before tee off?
It can be found on our website in our shop under pre-round and post round warm up and cool down!! New website coming soon with everything more easily accessible
Not a fan of that rhetoric! Doesn’t translate well for many… the hands don’t drop they fire from the top! Watch players on tour… extremely fast hands! This is a big move and definitely what we call the ‘pro move’… understanding how to disassociate the upper body and lower body. A lot of times if the hands “drop” there’s no speed and there’s no rotation.

Omg! So many lights have gone on in my head! Incredible video, thank you!
I believe you have clearly explained and perfectly demonstrated the holy grail of golf swing!

I might start playing every golf shot with my back towards target
LMAOOO i thought about that too!😂
Hands below the glass image is excellent. Also love the hands on the wall drill you have mentioned earlier.
The fine line is creating separation without getting your arms stuck in the process.
Exactly! Which so why i say fire the hips and hands. Hip and grip!
Agree 💯

I love this explanation. It’s like doing a carioka drill while standing still.
Adam, this is one of the best info this year! Thanks from Sweden! 🤩

Best explanation of the downswing I have ever seen!
Thank you! 🙏🏻

3:10… pure gold! Great explanation.
This is a game changer!
Pocket back is the new dance at the club
Your back to the target swing is the Jim Venetos swing!

Adam Porzak great coach ! Great energy !

Great video, You answered, why my ball had left to right spin.
SO SO GOOD! Well explained! Thank you! 😍👏👏👏
Does this apply to driver as well?
It works !!! Goodness me

Actual gold
I always feel so incredibly awkward when I try do drop the club down low early.
Justin Rose drill.
Correct “Separation” pretty sure that’s what it’s called in golf speak
magnifying lag with back to target
Break it up. Drop hands stop then turn.

Another awesome video. Just delete all your other TH-cam channels. Really
