    Thanks for telling like it is and explaining it. We have twins and were curious why the P.O. had them toed in. Guessing it was to make the steering less twitchy, like a car. Going back to neutral/middle and I bet we get at least .1-.3 better mpg. That may not seem like much to most, but it's a lot when you're going 140+ miles from shore to your numbers, at ~1.8-2.1 mpg with a 200 gallon tank.
    BTW, anyone who calls that a trim tab has no place owning a boat, much less working on one. It's s torque/steer tab and that's the end of it.

    I was just up on Lake Ontario trolling for salmon. The boat was pulling to the right and at one point tried to do a u turn! Thanks for the video. I like the advice on only loosening enough to make the tab so it will move.

    By the looks of your shop Captain, I'd say you were a polymath sir! Great video, if I'm not mistaken the turn direction of the skeg or (fill in the blank with your name) is the same direction on a inboard/outboard. Great video, new follower.

    Mate I have a 115hp Yamaha and replaced my trim tab today and went out on the boat and tested it I found that depending on where I have the motors trim as in up or down it affected whether the boat went left and right. I ended up putting my trim tab back to the centre and felt it drove straight. Previously I would have to adjust the trim height when driving to make the boat drive straight..

    Hey sir, I just wanted to ask I have a question I have a 40-year-old bass tracker with a 50 classic mercury on the back I noticed that someone put a hydrofoil
    on it, but my trim tab is set exactly dead in the middle never took the boat out yet. Should I test this motor to see where it pulls and then adjust the trim tab later

      @rogersshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it pulls to the right when you let go of the steering wheel, then it needs adjusting. If not, leave it alone. Hyrdofoils will get you on plane faster, but may take away from top end due to drag.

      @@rogersshop thanks for the info appreciate your time I’m still wondering why they put the hydrofoil on at the begin with I think people are trying to get good gas mileage I guess I’m sure the 50 hp mercury can get a 15 foot aluminum boat on plane without a hydrofoil

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That hydrofoil will be coming off this spring as I finish restoring the boat. While it does get you plane faster, it also reduces top end and increases drag.@@stephenbonaventure9423

    I have a 25 h.p. merc. On the back of a 14' Grumman. Alluminum boat. I adjusted trim tab a few times, even lowered my motor, still does it.

    Hey, I have a 1996 Yamaha 115 2 stroke. Would you know where to tell me to start to figure out why my rpm gauge isn’t working? Thanks

      I am not a boat motor mechanic. But, as a retired electrician, I suggest looking first at the integrity of the wiring, then the pickup and gauge.

    So what do you do is all adjustments where made and it still wants to snatch the tiller handle out of your hand

      Left or right? Tilt of the motor can also affect steering torque.

    • @smokeab4613

      @rogersshop well if I'm sitting on the back right hand side it pulls hard left which would make it wanna cut hard right if you where to just let go.
