Just binged watched your Kokopelli Trail adventure. It was great. Now, I'm going to share it with a buddy of mine. Definitely will be on my list of places to try out. Thanks for the entertainment.
What do you think about the Surly ECR? I like the 1120 but.... not in my budget. I hope you have a personal locator device... your treking through lots of big boulder areas. Good Adventure.
Surly makes great bikes. The ECR has so many mounting options for gear you can bring the kitchen sink if you want to. Whatever you get go for the 29+ tires. They roll over everything and the ability to vary sir pressure means you can suit any terrain from tarmac to boulder strewn trails. I carry a Garmin InReach device with me for all big adventures. Happy Trails William
On desert trips I carry 3(1.2 liter bottles) and 2 liters in my backpack. I plan for resupply every day. On other adventures I melt snow or plan to resupply at rivers. That is my favorite stove. I love it
On my 1120 inorder to solve the mud and chain derailment issue, I wrapped Gorilla tape around the joint wear the down tube and seat tube join together just above the bottom bracket. This keeps mud from building up in the “V” section just above the bottom bracket area, which then spills over into the chain ring and then derails my chain.
My mud build up happened on the chainstay. It was coming off the side knobs on the tire. I thought about wrapping it (chainstay) with tape but with the flex in the rear triangle and the lower air pressure I was running I said no. It was only happening in 1st gear. Heck, I can walk the bike about as fast as I move in 1st
I'm guessing close to 60 #. Naked she weighs 32. 120 ounces of water. 3.5 days of food. And all my clothes and gear probably brings it to that estimated weight. Each morning it weighed a lot less because at night I would off load what I drank that day into my hydration pack. I also used some H2O for cooking and coffee (a requirement) Thanks for watching D 👍
Perhaps I missed it in the video but what time of year was this. I have a window from about March 5 until early April to ride this. I’m not so concerned about temps but rather mud and snow up in the La Sals. Do you think this is doable in mid March?
Dylan, I would be concerned about snow depth in March. Of course it all depends on how much snow they get this season. Just keep an eye on wx reports. As for mud...if things are frozen, there's no concern about mud 👍 I did it in fall for just that reason. If you ride it, let me know. Happy Trails buddy
It's all dependant on the trip....I saw one person on Kokopelli. Wasn't worried about anyone taking it. I saw 7 people on my overnight bikepacking trip with my dog. I locked it up. If I run into a store to resupply, I lock it up. Heck, it's locked up in my garage right now. Happy Trails Nekson

Snowy and cold (-9C,15F) but so beautiful

I love your tours. Hey man, I have the same stove. How do you get on the water in the area or do you have enough with you?

Those racks are only for Trek1120 model ? I been unable to find them and check if fits on 9.9 rail. Any suggestions .. thanks bro.
I have only seen them on an 1120. That rack will not work on a full suspension bike.
Happy Trails Hugo!!
What month did you do this in? Video is dates Nov, but not sure if that's when you did it
I rode it the last week of October!
It's rarely that cold and snowy. Usually 50/60F for highs and 30/40F for low temps
Fascinating stuff, Russell. How uch do you think that rig weighs fully loaded?

@@RusticRussellAdventures I will be doing it in early May. Do you reckon that snow/cold temps should be a concern?
@@griffinclubb2961 Yes it can. I did it in the fall because of that reason
what do you do with your bike when bikepacking and you need to venture off without it? Do you just lock it to a tree?
It's all dependant on the trip....I saw one person on Kokopelli. Wasn't worried about anyone taking it.
