I’m still on my first Element, a 2003 that just went over 415,000 miles, original engine and transmission. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned!

Thank you so much for sharing. I have a 2003 Honda Element as well. It is a 5-speed two wheel drive model. It has 188 k on the odometer. Your story gives me hope so I can make it to 400,000 miles. Best of luck to you and I hope you hit 500K.

The Honda Element was offered in 4 different trims throughout it’s lifetime. From 2003-2005, the base trim level was the DX. The DX was discontinued after 2005. From 2003-2011 the EX was the top of the line trim level. From 2004-2005 the LX trim was the mid level trim, eventually becoming the base model once the DX was discontinued. From 2006-2011 there was the SC trim level. It has essentially the same amount of features as the EX, plus an exterior body kit. For 2006 only, some EX models came with painted body cladding, on a model called the EX-P. From 2003-2006, all models besides the EX-P had black plastic. body cladding. From 2007-2011 all models received painted body cladding. If you are looking at a DX, ensure it has A/C as that was optional on that trim. All models were available with a 4/5-speed automatic depending on the year, and a 5-speed manual from 2003-2010. All trims came standard in FWD, with optional AWD except the SC, which was FWD only. From 2007-2011, the front seatbelts were integrated into the front seats, allowing easier ingress/egress from the rear seats. In 2006, the Element received a more powerful 166 hp K24 2.4L engine.
From 2003-2005 the Element was offered in FWD or AWD with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. From 2006-2010 it was offered again in FWD or AWD, but with a 5-speed auto or the same 5-speed manual. For 2011, it was only available with the 5-speed automatic.
The rear sunroof was only available in AWD models, with either transmission from 2003-2008. After 2008 it was discontinued.
Be careful with the floor. There’s a common misconception that you can hose out the floor. NEVER DO THIS. If the owner of an Element you’re looking at mentions how the floor can be hosed off, walk away.
If I have made a mistake on any of this, comment down below and I will correct it.

    Nice review dude!
I'm also from NY. Central/Upstate. I'd been looking at Elements since they hit the scene,
and finally grabbed one a few years ago. I wanted an EX, 5-spd, AWD, and in Gun-metal..
I drove 4.5 hours to Fred Bean Nissan in PA to get mine as soon as it popped up on CarGurus.
It was a mint 2005, under 100k, etc. Absolutely love it. I threw a set of General Grabber ATX tires on it,
installed a roof rack / basket combo, and take it everywhere. [Even places most Jeep-guys won't go]
As an avid explorer, rifle/target shooter & nature photographer, my Element is the perfect vehicle for me..
Almost 3 years later, the truck has been back and forth to TN a few times, all over the place in NY,.
The only things I've done maintenance wise: Basic filter/fluid changes, brakes, & a VTEC solenoid.
The odo reads just over 130k now, & the truck runs as good today as it did when it rolled out of the factory.
    🙂🤘

There are many differences between '30-'06 vs '07-'11 year elements that were not covered. And they are important differences if you intend to use it for camping and some off-road use. Other sites can fill you in if you are interested. I'm on my 2nd E. 1st was '05 5 speed manual and now have '10 auto. If I could get either new I would go with the '05 manual.

I sold my ‘05 EX 4x4 5 psd that I was the original owner of to a close friend 4 months ago to purchase a new Passport, and I regret every minute of selling it.
Not only the versatility, the coolness, dependability, but the simplicity of it. I have literally turned off every lane assist, brake assist, cruise control assist, auto high beam, engine shutoff, etc on my new car and still haven’t figured out how to shut off the auto lift gate. About the feature I use is the backup camera.
I owned my Element for 15 years and 200,000 miles without a single problem. I always got such enjoyment trying to see how stuff I could stuff I could cram inside of it and then see the look on peoples faces after everything was unloaded. One day our stove went out so my wife and I loaded the old one in the E and drove to appliance store, after picking out the new one the salesman told me to pull around back and he’d help load it up. When I pulled around back he said “that’s not going to fit in there”, so I replied “yes it will, where do you want me to put the old one that’s inside of it “.
I primarily bought the E to be my snowboard/mtn bike rig and boy did it ever perform, never a single issue in snow and the joy I got putting it in 4th gear and passing cars on the snowy pass was awesome. I even talked two of my friends into buying one, with the same appreciation of a killer vehicle.
I did a lot of searching online prior to purchasing my Passport but not for the reason you may think, my searches were more along the lines of “Is Honda building a new Element”, “New Element rumors” etc. I’ve always felt Honda should build a new one but with 2” more ground clearance and at least 200hp.

Note on checking for rust; rear undercarriage beam at the rear bumper. A real salt spray catcher. Common for the gas filler pipe to rust out, but is replaceable. Either issue can be addressed by a rust conversion treatment and rust sealing paint. This may not stop the degeneration of the metal, but will certainly slow it considerably. I love mine. Hi there, you posted a great video about your Honda Element or the Element on general.
I have a 2005 EX 4wd that is dark green with the composite body panels (gray) and gray interior.
Has 191,700 miles on original engine and transmission and this vehicle runs fantastic.
Exterior was almost in excellent condition when I bought it October 2020 and the interior was almost excellent except for tear on driver seat side bolster. Otherwise perfect. The only body damage was rust on roof near top of windshield.
I am having the rust sanded (very minor) down and then removed and instead of general body work, I am having bedliner material sprayed along the top of the front of the roof wear meets the windshield. This will last longer, be much more resistant to scratches, dents, chips, or further rust in this area. Also having windshield replaced with brand new one with warranty and labor guarantee. The labor to do all this, the bedliner material, and the new windshield installed is total of $500 and it can all be done the same day.
Drop off in morning and pick up in late afternoon. Regular body shop would have been 3-4 days minimum and more. money.
Also same place is doing blackout package for H emblem on front grille and H emblem on tailgate and finally ELEMENT name on tailgate are getting same treatment. Although I said blackout the place I'm using can also do light or dark gray or light or dark charcoal. No more chrome onemblems or lettering. This is additional price from the $500. I was told an extra $75 or $100 (worth it)
I bought my Element from a friend of the family who owns a used car lot and I've known this person for over 20 years so I know that I wouldn't be taken for a ride. He is honest.
I traded a 2010 dodge grand caravan sxt (constant electrical problems) and it had 197000 when I bought it and I was able to trade it back after about 2 months of having it (financed) then I saw the Element. I don't need credit to buy a vehicle from this guy because he doesn't care about credit. As long as you have a down payment and proof of monthly income that's all he wants. I put $400 down and my payment is $240 per month for 30 months that price includes intrest that is included in that monthly payment.
Best vehicle I have owned so far even better than my 2014 Ford Focus SE I had.
Fantastic vehicle in snow especially when going up steep hill. No problems as long as you have new or almost new all season tires (I do) Not snow tires but all season tires that I bought new from Discount Tire
(GT Radial Savero) these are great tires for ice and snow traction and low priced at DT
$438 total out the door price
If anyone is wondering if they should buy Honda Element the answer is yes yes yes!!!
2005 2006 2007 is what I would go with, but any year is ok.
    Thank You

Good review. I've owned two EX's, both awd. First '05 5 speed manual. Now own 2010 Automatic. Great cars but in high demand right now. Carvana offered me $16000 for my '10 last month. One correction for you. The Pilot has a much different AWD system than the Element. CRV and Element share the same platform. By the way the new seats with the built seat belt was not a good improvement. They don't fold as easy or flat. The lower portion of the seat goes all the way to the floor blocking rear heat vents and blocking rear passengers ability to put their feet under the front seats. And the seat belts coming out of the seats are too low and cut into your shoulder. For anyone looking for an Element I would go with '03-'06 if the above issues are a concern to you.

I’ve pulled dirt bikes, our snowmobile on a trailer. I’ve hauled firewood, band gear, three large dogs, tons of misc furniture etc. They run strong and we obviously love them. I had always thought I’d buy the updated Element one day, but that may never come.

I LOVE MY ELEMENT! Kiwi color the same as your video, 2006 AWD, 5 speed. 64 ways to fold the seats! Low mileage and will never sell it - see the stars, dogs love it, stereo rocks - quasi camper. “Old folks” (haha there) probably the wrong description; better than old gay ladies with dogs, that is what they said when I got my car. Now I am over 65 and still love my Element! 14 years ago; camping, sailing trips, kayak trips, road trips or just taking Mom out for the day with the dog and the wheel chair and the walker - yea yea! ❤️ My Element!

I bought mine new in 2006 for $20k out the door, no trade in. The only problems were the initial AWD recall (no problems since), and a rusty exhaust replacement. I love it. I've never been stuck, and acted as the neighborhood taxi after a 24" snowstorm. I patrolled the subdivision, checked on the elderly and handicapped, and transported neighbors for supplies and work crews to shovel people out. Nobody ever busted my balls about owning a weird vehicle again. It just works. Well.

I'm on my second Element but looking for a third. The moonroof only comes in the all wheel drive model. Getting rid of those seat belts on the suicide door was the dumbest thing Honda did. I cannot believe they catered to a few who complained that they were too lazy to take the seat belt off to get someone out of the back. The integrated seat belts absolutely choke the heck out of you because they wrap around your neck and one of those fuzzy velcro pad things does not help. The seat's fabric also changed in 2007 and it is now some kind of a tightly woven kind of fabric that is very hard to clean, no longer the easy to wipe off seats. Honda also made the bright idea of taking away the extensions on the sun visors in 07. On a big boxy car with a lot of surface area on the windows you absolutely need those extensions and you cannot swap them out with older ones either from a junkyard or ordering new ones that belong to an 03 through 06 model because Honda changed the shape of them so they don't fit. My first element I bought brand new and it was in 06 front wheel drive manual and I absolutely loved that car. It overheated due to a crack in the radiator hose and ruined the engine at 225k. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the engine, it was the radiator hose. The element will take an Accord engine so I had a new/used Accord engine put in. Not a month later did a lady total that car by running a red light and hitting me. I now have an 08 automatic and I do not like it nearly as much for the all the reasons listed above. I cannot believe Honda catered to people who were too lazy to take off the seat belts. Not only is it very hard to find seat covers for the integrated seat belts but when you do find them they are a low selection and they're very expensive. I was able to find a less expensive pair, only to have the zippers break and render them useless after only a few months use. I never wear the seatbelt because it hurts my neck and I can't breathe. The automatic gets terrible gas mileage and this one's a four-wheel drive which I do not need. I'm averaging 18 miles to the gallon, 17 on the bad day and 19 on a good day which is ridiculous. My front wheel drive stick got about 26. A few days ago I found an 03 front wheel drive stick shift that was almost exactly like my 06 except for the wheels. Said it had no accidents but the hood wouldn't close fully, the steering wheel sat at 2 o'clock, the brakes were bad, lots of noises when turning and the steering wheel shook like crazy at both lower and higher speeds. What a shame because it shifted beautifully, had a relatively new clutch, the engine was fine and the interior was pristine. Since I'm not a mechanic and don't know one who would work for free, I knew the car would be a money pit for me so I had to pass. Honda is bringing back the element later this year supposedly but I guarantee you it will be with those stupid seatbelts, that same tightly woven seat fabric, and no sun visor extenders. So I'm still on the hunt for an 03 to an 06! Very nice video you did I enjoyed it.

@@JackfnHammered So I bought an 08 and I like it, though its actually got more problems than my 03 (seized lock, alignment issue, more rust). They took the extra 12-volt plug off by the shifter, or is that only manuals that have that? I like the seats but they apparently don't move as far forward nor the fronts fold flat completely... and they are lower at the back, so the AC/heat doesn't have as much opening to the back. The silver colour as opposed to blue stays so much cooler inside. I am considering selling it and getting an 06 now.

As an avid element owner [ we have 3 in the family now] I can tell you that Honda missed the vision for this vehicle. Ultimately the Element should have evolved into a Jeep "killer" it's much better built, more versatile better engineered, and reliable. Most Elements easily exceed 300k with virtually no problems the K24a engine is world renown for its reliability and performance some modifications can exceed 300hp! the turn radius is unequaled in any other vehicle on the road, the response is quick and assured with incredible visibility. What Honda needs to do is release this in a "militarized" looking 4wd off-road only version bucking heads with the Bronco and Kia, starting with a more ruggedized frame and suspension 18" wheels bumped out wheel wells, running boards, roof racks, and ladder. the basic layout is without equal to this day the seats were a great idea, I keep mine strapped up but can lower them in a second. it's also the ultimate urban hauler that easily moves washers and dryers, trips to home depot, or in my case a 120lb Rhodesian Ridgeback!

No major repairs--just brakes, tires, battery, clean throttle body and normal maintenance. It is making a strange noise when pulling away from stop. I think it could be a worn motor mount. And its great for parallel parking in manhattan except visibility in back is difficult. wish it had rear camera. A-pillars are very large. I almost ran over a small pedestrian. You can get 25mpg with a AWD if it's a 5 speed. Take the seats out.

Bullshit! My 2006 Honda Element EX just went over 200,000 miles. It is extremely clean and runs like a top. I wouldn't let it go for less than $7,000. It's worth it, it's a Honda. Plus it's been well taken care of

Lots of idiots trying to sell their Element for crazy prices though. Like an '04 128k for $5000 or an '05 62k for $8500.

      @Johnathon Castro $6k for an '05 with 172k? There's an '04 with 128k for $5k, and it's been over 2 months unsold. '07 w/99k $4500, unsold. Washington DC area.

Your pricing opinion is not particularly realistic , very few if any under 200k mileage go for at or under 5k….also, 19 mph city driving that this vehicle gets is not particularly good, considering it’s a Honda with a tiny 4 cylinder motor.
