Love the beep beep beeps... 😂 When you snag up like that , before you jerk the rod too hard and bury the lead and / deadbait ... walk as far left and right and give it a tug...that often works for me, not just piking but when feeder fishing and the feeder lands behind a stone...😓 Enjoyed the vid, it just needs to be an hour longer... 😂 Tight lines, lads !! (I also left a detailed comment below SteveBrady2626's comment you might find interesting re. twitching baits..) From the Emerald Isle 😎👍☘️🍺
So do I! 😂 Cheers I’ll keep that in mind for next time, we did actually get the whole rig back but I’ll try this method. You too mate! Also, I can’t see your reply to that other comment for some reason..
Hi guys. Best to have the bale arm open when using drop off indicators to reduce any resistance when the Pike picks the bait up and moves off. You'll get less dropped runs. I have used the baitrunner in the past and works ok when the takes are confident. Nice vid and location
Yes agree with you in certain circumstances it's not always possible. I then just fish off the baitrunner with no drop off indicator. Whatever works for you. @@potatopilot_6784
@@potatopilot_6784 You need to use a decent weight lead, I use 3oz inline leads, I point my rod directly at the deadbait location and if its super windy I'll dip the rod tip below the surface... I also have Fox adjustable tension rod line clips instead of drop-back indicators (I use Delkims plus Shimano 10000 baitrunners but I too fish open bail) though if you are fishing a stillwater there shouldn't be too much under-tow.... I also popup my deads to lift 'em out of any possible weed for a cleaner more positive bite... When twitching them, I lift up the rod, keep the bail arm open but hold the spool and just lift quickly to give the bait no more than a foot or so movement, after twitching I immediately let the spool go in case of a sudden strike.... I've seen other anglers simply pull the rod back to twitch but this will only pull the lead & deadbait into any weed present... This light short twitch is particularly important when using the baitboat to drop free offerings with the deadbait... 2 hours of twitching every 15mins will take your dead 8 feet away from your freebies !! 😮 Tight lines, lads !! 😎👍☘️🍺
Great video, I’m a member at the wee private lochan next to Achray that belongs to the tigh mor hotel, stunning views all around and from the top of Ben a’an.
Nice looking pike well done. Its not easy in the cold is it. We did manage 5 between myself and my dad on the 2nd January though all on lures aswell. Tight lines for 2024.
That’s good going on lures at this time of year, well done! I love lure fishing for pike but I don’t tend to take my lure rod out when it’s this cold. Thanks, you too!
Good to see some young guys that are well kitted up to care for the pike👍
Thanks, we always prioritise fish care when we’re out

Hi there, thanks for the tip, I’ll give this a try next time!
Bail open isn't always possible when fishing a strong current and heavy wind

Thanks! That lochan looks like a nice spot, I remember seeing it on a tv show a couple of years back. Brilliant views around there
Well done on getting a pike, I’ve forgotten what that’s like tbh! Looks like a nice loch too, best of luck with the rest of your winter piking.
Thanks mate! You too

U used a map for the depths, what maps are those??
The map from this video is taken from gps nautical charts, that and navionics and the 2 I use for an idea of the depth I’m in
Do you need a permit
Yes, you can buy them in James bayne fishing shop in Callander
Noissey fishing and still catching. ,
Loch chon and Loch archay There are small fish
Yeah mate bang on, I’ve found that too
Bit of advice I wouldn’t put the location name in the title your just gonna ruin your own fishing mate 🤟 good wee video
Fair point mate I’ll get around to changing it. Cheers
ye hide where ur fishing best you can just say fishing the trosachs or fishing up north etc@@CJsReelAdventures
