Hi, Michael. I have this same exact bike. I have been doing some research on these lately! Everything on my bike is original and excellent shape! Awesome bikes for sure!
Great looking bike! I just picked up a 1982 in angel blue. Been in a hangar since 1987. Gonna try to get it running again. New to Honda's, this could be interesting!
@@michaelsams450 it's in pretty good shape! A little rust here and there. Got the chrome all shined up, original tires hold air. Needed a gas tank and a few other small parts. gonna be a fun project.
Its all good with tht sit trust me you got the best of the best my man u just havent been around theses types of bikes like i had and its a beauty what chi got there God bless it and btw i have two myself modded amd all tht also brad them from another country and hipe you enjoyed by now be save
You're probably right. Fortunately, from what I can tell from looking at other examples and the research I've done into the ownership and registration history, the bike appears to be pretty original. Aside from the seat and ignition switch of course. The paint looks original upon closer inspection and the mileage shown on the odometer is inline with previous registration and title disclosures. Regardless, we've been enjoying the heck out of this little bike. Thanks for watching!
It looks like a restoration job to my eye. The paint doesn't look like an original Honda finish. I would be sceptical about that odometer reading. That said, it's a nice bike Michael.
@@michaelsams450 I used to paint vehicles for a living and the finish looks too fresh to be that old. The texture has more "orange peel" than I remember Hondas of the period having. The petrol tank at around 4:55 again just doesn't look like a factory finish. It's difficult working from the images in your film but there are other things, such as the brightness of some on the plated fittings which again look too fresh. Having said all that, as you rightly say, it is difficult to buy a good Honda Cub nowadays and restored or not this is clearly a nice little bike. If it was mine I'd be very pleased with it and proud to ride it around. I'd much rather have a nicely restored bike than a "tired" original.
Thanks for the insight, I have very little painting experience. All of my classic bikes are about a decade older than this one so I wouldn't consider them a good point of comparison either. A restoration would explain the seat which I'm nearly sure is a reproduction. One of the things I've found difficult is finding close-up images of other examples to compare my bike to. Either way as you noted, it's a good looking bike and they have become difficult to find. I'm going to enjoy the heck out of it as soon as this rain quits.
Thanks. Prices here have actually come down quite dramatically from a decade ago. I guess now that the cafe racer resurgence has died down the hipsters are no longer driving up the perceived value of any old bike that gets dragged out of a barn. Though I'm not sure how long our supply will last with David Silver Spares hauling them all back to the UK by the container load.

I bought the bike as seen in the video. I did a quick search on eBay and some of the other parts suppliers I use and it looks like your best bet is going to be to buy a complete leg shield with the Passport badge intact. I didn't come across any sellers that had just the badge (part no. 87102-GB5-670). You could also use the international version of the badge (part no. 87102-086-910) depending on the year of your bike (80/81). Dratv.com sells that one here: dratv.com/279d1.html and there is also an NOS one for sale on eBay from a UK seller.
Congratulations Michael, you have a lovely bike. I have a Honda 50 and I am looking for a back carrier like your one. Would you or any of your viewers know where to get one? I am in Ireland but happy to source it wherever it can be found. Happy biking.
Thanks. I would check CMSNL.com and ebay. Those are goto sources for the harder to find parts. Make sure you're searching for your specific year and model, I'm not sure the racks are interchangeable between years/models. David Silver Spares would be worth taking a look at as well.
@@michaelsams450 Thank you very much, Michael, for answering my question. I made contact with the company by phone and email. They seem to have a great collection of parts. Thanks again. The rear chrome carrier has proven difficult to source. I appreciate your help.
@@tomasmackenna You can also setup a saved search for the part number on eBay. That way if someone lists one you'll get a notification. That has worked for me in the past. CMSNL has a similar feature that will alert you when they get inventory in that that matches part numbers you've asked to be notified about. Good luck with your search.
I can't remember the exact amount off the top of my head but it was close to $3K. More than I wanted to spend at the time but they don't pop up for sale in this condition too often anymore.
To find one in that kind of shape is very hard to find, Great find

John, can you clarify what you mean about the paint finish? It sounds like you probably have more experience in this department than I do. Thanks.

PS. I'm quite jealous of your classic Honda collection. They are all very rare and expensive over here in the UK.
