Straight down the line you found everything typically wrong with these bikes when they don’t work but fixed they run well. What a fortunate find. Your are a good mechanic. I have one of those and had the exact same issues but mine is the old 6 volt system.
I have had hundreds of them bikes i used to buy them and do them up to sell some of my friends said omg thats full of rust they were shocked when they seen the transformation when its was all cleaned up it looked brand new.heres my tip how i did it soap filled brillo pads in hot soapy water it shifts surface rust easily dose not even scatch the chrome use them lightly to remove the rust it works guys
It was super weird. It's the first thing I check if I'm having fuel delivery issues now haha. There was more in the stack just can't see from the angle.
Nice classic bike! It looks like whoever worked on it before you tried to run it without a battery, as the battery is used as a kind of voltage regulator on these bikes, so without it you will blow the bulbs. Thanks for the video 👍🇦🇺
Oh man, I had that vented gas cap issue on an CL175 a few years ago, it died driving it home from the seller's house, stranded me deep in the valley at night, so I let it sit, then it would work fine, then die a couple mins later. Turns out he had the 'California' cap on the tank, no hole on top, so I loosened it a smidge and the thing ripped. Good catch!

Super cool. I'm going to tackle a very similar garage paperweight this spring (83 Passport C70) that I've had for 5 years. I printed out the manual like you did. Minimal mechanical experience (can change the oil, filters & wheels in my car). Any recommendations or pearls of wisdom?
Hmm well definitely check that your tank cap vents, that gave me all kinds of hell trying to tune it haha. make sure it's got oil before you try to start it. make sure the tank isn't full of rust before you fill it up then that gunk clogs up the carb.
Wow. $100. I have 2 Passports not nearly as complete or nice that aren't running. Maybe I should toss them in the trash or part them out. Edit: Oh. That was a stack of bills. Makes me feel better about spending time to get mine running again. My plans had a snag in that my Passports were stolen but then recovered. I lost many parts I had collected as the thieves got those too but they did not come back to me.

Thanks man ride safe
That little bike turned out really well and will make someone happy. They sell for thousands of pounds here in the UK.
Thank you!

My first bike in 1978! So many fun memories; I'd have another one!
That's awesome, so would I they're a riot
Good catch with the gas cap that would have been a frustrating time.
a nice crispy hundy not bad

No problem glad you liked it, good tech tip
Nice video, had that same fuel cap issue on a brand new Hyosung of all things. Ive kept that in the back of my mind since.
It's so simple yet can make for the weirdest symptoms

Such a strange source for a fuel starvation problem isn't it? Now it's something that's burned into my memory.

Great job. I have an '82 C70, half done. Thanx
You should have kept it, you probably not find another one in this good of shape
I do miss it sometimes. Most comfortable bike I've ridden, it was like cruising on a cloud
The super cub was discontinued in 1983 and the passport was born
How much they sell for
free?damn!!
it was a lucky find for sure
Like how much will it cost to fix one of these
Hey! I have one need to restore it,any suggestions on where to start?
Usually I like to see if I can get something to run, that tells me how much money I have to sink into it before it's usable
