    I have to say that I went out and bought one of these. On mine, the brushing at the beautiful, solid end lugs matches the case exactly (so much so that it almost looks as if it was brushed while on the case even though I know that's not true). I love this watch and, although I like screw-down crowns, I enjoy the retro feel of simply winding the watch.
    There's something else I want to note about the bracelet, which I think is outstanding, and that is that they've used a very nice female end link which enables the bracelet to drape vertically underneath the lugs, or even more acutely, for wrist wrap. It's a really nice bracelet, even though the clasp itself is fairly common right now.
    I have the Sydney, which is reviewed here, and uses retro lume that's not as bright as the white stuff used on the black and blue dials. This is one of those watches where I get compliments or comments from people across the counter at the car parts store, or other shops where my hands are reaching out. Very cool watch, particularly for the price.

    Great review on a great watch! I love that dial with the textured dial and the cross-hairs at the center. Those hands are one of my personal favorite styles. The lume is cool as is the face design. You just can’t beat it at the price. My son has bought a couple of AVI-8 watches that I was not fond of, but this is a great Fleiger style watch!

      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that - yeah I think they've managed to hit something sweet here... ironically it took some restraint and pull back from the typically overly busy dials they put out!

    I love the zero instead of 12 to give it the Altimeter look in a plane. I got my pilots license in 98 and first thing I noticed was that. This is definitely a watch that I will eventually buy

    I really like the AVI-8 watches. I like how they push the ideas of what a watch should look like, and they always have something interesting to look at. That said this one is boring in comparison, yet I feel this model is stunning. Definitely a beautiful watch.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get what you mean - they often put out designs with a purposely detailed (often very busy) dial... yet this one takes a different approach and goes much more toward traditional utilitarian aviators.

    hey, Ivan. believe it or not, this is the watch that I might want to buy right now. For what it is and in that price range, I give 9 out of 10! Probably the best score a watch got in this year (from your watch reviews). of course, as you said, there are some short-falls. In a perfect world, I would prefer (we all would prefer) screw in crown, screw in links, quick release end links, glide lock style clasp with Lumibrite lume. But I am 1000% certain that AVI wouldn't do that, ha ha. (however, I wonder how much the price of that watch would go up, if they improve all those things... very curious to know)
    I got nothing to say about the dial, the colors, how they were all laid out, hands (love the hands by the way)...etc. As a aviator watch, it has almost perfect dial and layout. (actually I could not believe my eyes, ha ha.. hence my conflict to buy one or not....)
    great watch for what it is and even better review for introducing it to us.
    thanks Ivan. Have an awesome day.
    PS: this is probably easiest one to for you to comment among all of my previous comments. :+) And I know that my last one (Starlight) was the most tough one for you to comment back, ha ha

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes definitely less cerebral this one! Now wouldn't that be nice if they gave us solid original clasps, screw link adjustment, proper C3 Super-Luminova and 100m with screw down crowns (quick release I can skip). If that pushed the price up $50 I reckon can be perfectly happy!

    I used to own an AVI-8 Lancaster bomber with a quartz movement. Nothing wrong with it, it just felt cheap. I now own 3 Spinnaker watches (same company) but these appear to be better. Perhaps the auto's with a SS bracelet are a different story?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In regard to watches on AliExpress these days with the NH35 movement. Are those movements really from Seiko?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure some of them would’ve genuine, especially if they say “Seiko” or “SII”... but there have been reports that some are actually clone movements.

    Hi Ivan, thanks for the review. Moving forward could you put your watch on your left wrist? It's kinda weird looking it on right wrist. I understand if you wear your watch on right wrist or you are a lefty. Thanks.

      I'm laughing because I thought the same thing, and I'm a mostly left-handed guy wearing a watch on his left hand. Older "lefties" are pretty common this way: we had to adapt with watches, scissors, rifles... so we don't do everything "full lefty". Not criticizing, Ivan, just noting that I saw it, too.

    I’ve been saving up for a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto for ages but life keeps getting in the way and I have to dip into the savings.
    This watch looks to have a very similar feel and I’m considering it as it’s at a much more obtainable pricepoint.
    How do you feel the movement (Japanese? Seiko?) compares with the ETA in the Khaki Field Auto?
    This would be my first (new) automatic watch.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The NH35 is solid and has developed a good track record of reliability over more than 10 years. It’s not the equivalent of the ETA but it’s not asking the same price either.

    It’s really cool! I wish it didn’t say “flyboy” on the dial. Reminds me of an expletive that I use to describe some dudes....shares kinship with dbag, if you use your imagination I’m sure you’ll know my reference. Aside from that, very cool. Good review! They could work on the spin factor of the packaging though...🤷🏼‍♂️

    I love how the dial looks like something pried from the instrument panel of a? P40? P-51 ? I've only seen them but its like a past life. Can't go wrong with Seiko nh36. I'm really gonna watch prices. Maybe laborday or Christmas. Anything closer to $190? I like most of the AV8or brand. I didn't need a fancy box and or a pen at $$$$ thank you sir. I do like the Australian offerings but to pricey, NOT lack of finesse or style. Just MY lack offering$.

    I think watch enthusiasts tend to go overboard with water resistance, the valued watches in your collection will never get wet if you can help it, and it's a Casio when you know it's going to be wet.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you are saying Matt but reality is that I've seen many a Submariner at public pools, and I myself have no problem bringing my Seamasters, so I'm afraid your postulation is simply not reflected in real life experiences.
      For 50m rated watches, most WR charts would suggest shower is OK, but some would suggest not bathing with the watch on. For myself I did have a 50m rated Maurice LaCroix take on water in shower after about 2 years ownership... I was advised not to engage in "extreme showers" ;)

    • @77cjam
      @77cjam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerthWAtch Yes but Ivan the watches you mention are specific dive watches. This isn't a dive watch so 50m is absolutely fine. Taking watches off to go swimming or shower is hardly a hardship or chore. There is definitely an obsession amongst the watch enthusiast community about specs in general particularly around water resistance and sapphire crystals. There seems to be a lot of people under the impression if a watch doesn't have 200m WR or a sapphire crystal it will explode.... 💥🙄

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, they are dive watches, but it doesn’t change the fact that I incontrovertibly countered the comment. All the same I didn’t hesitate bringing a Rolex Explorer into the pool, nor would I any watch rated 100m with screw down crown. That’s what they could’ve done with this watch to make it more a go anywhere do anything piece.
