I grew up watching the live-action Michael Bay films. My Fandom paid off when I got to meet Peter Cullen and got him to sign my Armor Knight Optimus Prime.
Why is there no mention of the Transformers comic books, or their writers? Bob Budiansky wrote the filecard descriptions for most of the G1 characters (including giving a lot of them their names), and Simon Furman created the backstory for Unicron and Cybertron, including inventing Primus, the Transformers creator. They contributed more than the cartoon writers did, and their influence on the lore continues to this day.
I was introduced to it because of transformers cybertron and the fact that I somehow had the transformers the movie 20th anniversary dvds. You don’t know how hyped I was to have a transformers themed birthday party for my 5th birthday
For me it was due to the reviewers such as Emgo316 and Optibotimus. When I watched, they were doing mostly transformers prime reviews and somehow I stumbled across season 3 of Transformers Prime. I had tried G1 but didn’t get into the franchise. Then the 30th anniversary began and I saw Age of Extinction in and XD Cinemark theater(basically IMAX but louder). As bad as it was, a small part of me does like the movie. Now here I am almost 8 years later, I’ve seen all the movies, seen 8 shows all the way through, collected many many many figures, started reading the IDW comics and even started writing my very own transformers universe. Because of the mass of online creators like TFI Creations, Chrosshairs Productions, Comidon Cam, Diamondbolt and many more.
What I like the most about Transformers is that they just arent stopping They have pretty much said everything and yet people are still writing stories about giant transforming robots fighting their war trough out the galaxy

Seeing the 1984 - 1987 Transformers reminds me of my childhood, Im only 18 almost 19, my stepdad got me this mini dvd-player for on holidays. I would sit in the back of the car watching the entire show, rewatching it I think over 15 times over a couple years. Transformers will always be a part of my childhood and I cannot express the love I feel for the entire franchise/story.
Yeah! It has and always will be one of my most favorite franchises of all time! There's almost a mystical force around the idea of Transformers! It has so much character and charm! :')
Transformers GO actually sounds and looks like a fun series. Also as a 90s kid i remember having a Toy Purple T-Rex Megatron Beast wars toy. Takes me back. Beast wars was awesome.
The comics are easily the best part of the franchise, that and "Ask Vector Prime." The only TV shows that come close are Beast Wars and Animated. Prime is great and all but having one Autobot be worth a hundred Decepticons never had me concerned for the characters. The G1 cartoon just felt to repetitive and error ridden for me to get through it without a struggle.
I kind of wished you talked about some of the more important comics like the More Than Meets The Eye and Lost Light series?? I think they’re some of the best comics ever made.
Loved beast wars for all the reasons stated and more, just finished watching siege and it reminded me a little of beast wars with the story telling and serious elements.

Its cool to see Matt Hullum talk about Transformers. I didn’t know he was a TF fan. I would like to see Sarge meet Optimus Prime, or Kup, or Ironhide. Also, Bumblebee is officially a reboot and is not connected to the other movies. And the Michael Bay movies are not beloved by everyone as as lot of people loath the Bay films. But I’m not gonna lie that the movies does have good spectacle and CGI that are all breathtaking.

Man, I was like 6 when I saw the Transformers animated movie and I cried for days after Prime died and nearly did again in the motion picture (part 2). :-(
I feel like G1 and stories that expand on that are my favorite. I appreciate the effect of a change in leadership Sentinal to Optimus, to Rodimus and I don't know who the beast era leader of all Maximals was but we get Optimus Primal as a leader of a small team. I like how the evolution of the Pretender tech evolves them to their beast forms. And I love the fact that there are so many characters to tell stories about. My second favorite was probably Transformers Animated because of its homage to everything that had come before it. I think my least favorite are the movies and their contributions to the mythos. The physical Allspark, Unicron being Earth, Bumblebee not being able to talk... I like The Original 13 but not that they are Primes nor that Optimus is related to them. In my opinion Prime is the title of a Cybertronian leader during his era, Not a status to add to the Original 13 cybertronians. They are their own legend. I end my mini rant but I'll point out there was no mention of RID 2015
It’s pretty simple really. There’s Transformers G1, the original and the standard by which all will forever be judged. There’s Transformers Prime, the only thing ever done that stands up to G1. Then there’s everything else. Oh, Michael Bay says he did something with Transformers a few times, but I have yet to see a Transformers movie Bay has done. He made some robot movies, but not Transformers movies.
I wonder why he didn't mention any of the 2015 RID version (sequel of TF prime). Cause technically that is part of the transformers universe series. Albeit not a particular favorite of mine but a little sad he didn't mention it.
Masterforce and Victory are my favorite generations. The Japanese had the best idea of mixing more humans with robots. I'd really love to see a live adaptation of these versions. Hopefully sometime soon.
After watching that By Its Cover episode with the animation people, it's nice to see that someone at RT knows what they're talking about in terms of transformers.
The thing that gets me is beast wars takes place centuries into the future. I remember transformers taking place on earth via the movie. So if time runs forward then at some point in the transformers universe Earth had advanced humans prior to the beast wars (dinosaurs present). So Transformers takes place millions of years in OUR past. Edit: My queston was answered 10 seconds after posting my theroy. At least I got it half right!
Well, CGI wise. You should read some articles about it. The scene with Driller in the third movie took, something like, 277 hours per frame to render. ILM has to keep shutting down their render farm to any other movies, which they don’t even have to do for Star Wars. It’s really cool to read about.
I was sad to see Transformers Cybertron only get a passing mention as it was the one I grew up with and added a lot of interesting characters and expanding things like the cyber planet keys and adding beast planet and the giant planet which melded all the previous incarnations or transformers into one story.
I learned quite a bit, appreciate you putting this together! Also, I went to see Transformers The Movie in 1986 with my Dad and I must say I REALLY enjoyed it and had the same thoughts you did about it being the "greatest thing in the history of time"! 👍👍
It was. Original voice actors, Other great voice actors, a cohesive and entertaining story, multiple Daytime Emmys, a live orchestral soundtrack done by Bryan Tyler, and so forth. I think it was supposed to be about 5 seasons, but something happened. I truly miss Transformers Prime.

I wonder why he didn't mention any of the 2015 RID version (sequel of TF prime). Cause technically that is part of the transformers universe series. Albeit not a particular favorite of mine but a little sad he didn't mention it.

Masterforce and Victory are my favorite generations. The Japanese had the best idea of mixing more humans with robots. I'd really love to see a live adaptation of these versions. Hopefully sometime soon.
After watching that By Its Cover episode with the animation people, it's nice to see that someone at RT knows what they're talking about in terms of transformers.

The thing that gets me is beast wars takes place centuries into the future. I remember transformers taking place on earth via the movie. So if time runs forward then at some point in the transformers universe Earth had advanced humans prior to the beast wars (dinosaurs present). So Transformers takes place millions of years in OUR past. Edit: My queston was answered 10 seconds after posting my theroy. At least I got it half right!
The Bay movies are the "pinnacle of Hollywood film making" quote made me throw up in my mouth.
Well, CGI wise. You should read some articles about it. The scene with Driller in the third movie took, something like, 277 hours per frame to render. ILM has to keep shutting down their render farm to any other movies, which they don’t even have to do for Star Wars. It’s really cool to read about.

I was sad to see Transformers Cybertron only get a passing mention as it was the one I grew up with and added a lot of interesting characters and expanding things like the cyber planet keys and adding beast planet and the giant planet which melded all the previous incarnations or transformers into one story.

It was. Original voice actors, Other great voice actors, a cohesive and entertaining story, multiple Daytime Emmys, a live orchestral soundtrack done by Bryan Tyler, and so forth. I think it was supposed to be about 5 seasons, but something happened. I truly miss Transformers Prime.
I love how the 2015 Robots in Disguise series that was a sequel to Transformers: Prime is not even mentioned. xD
Yeah, they mentioned all of the Japanese stuff, but forgot to include a main line American mass produced series....
@@DvirOZys and they may or may not have forgotten to mention that the alligned continuity began with the WFC and FOC games and then continued and technically ended with Prime according to the Covenant of Primus book.

What a coincidence, about a week ago I got a random G1 transformers explanation video on my homepage recommendations and have been watching a lot of transformers videos lately.... Then this, what a coincidence.
Been a fan since the G1 Transformers but my favorite will always be Beast Wars Transformers. Armada and Energon as well. Btw, loved War for Cybertron. It was EPIC!!!
