  • We tried to trick Ancestry DNA to see whether their results are real. We have always wanted to do a test to know where we're actually from but we weren't sure if the results were actually real or something they put together from family connections.... and here are our results.

@@moxide Bantu is a language classifier. It doesn’t actually tell us much about the people and corn came from the Americas but was passed on through trade. The classifier of African people in general is pretty poor. For one, anything they don’t classify as Bantu is thrown into Afro Asiatic and Nilo-Saharan. The Nilo-Saharan range from Nigeria to like Kenya despite having almost no differences. The language isn’t even in the same group! Hausa is not remotely similar to Luo, yet they all fall under this Nilo Saharan banner. Kikuyu isn’t similar to Wolof but again, somehow these are Bantu languages. It seems to me, poor research got us here. The similarity in cuisine comes from thousands of years of trade. We know Africans probably traded with each other because of the existence of things like ivory and ostrich shells in countries that don’t have those animals.

Miss Kimmy is not all Bantu. Check the timeline of racial subgroups in Africa. Bantu, although the most recent mutation, has expanded at the most rapid rate, and is likely to displace all of the earlier (Sub-Saharan) African races. Nearly all Blacks/African-Americans in the United States are of Bantu ancestry. The really exciting thing (for me) is the Khoisan inheritance. Unfortunately, the Bantu had largely destroyed the Khoisan long before European colonization south of the Sahara.

Some tribes in South Africa migrated from the central basin of Africa and probably mingled with the Kikuyu on the Eastern part of Africa. Thing is, "borders" are a mind construct so you would find that a tribe belongs to two or more countries e.g. the Zulus and their offshoots are found in almost all southern African countries and a bit in Tanzania ( read Zwangendaba and the Ngoni migration route). I am Nyamwanga, found in Tanzania and Zambia.
Point is, If you have a southern gene in you its pointless to point out one country because your exact gene could also be found in Magwegwe West, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

@Kim, Bantu people are believed to have migrated from central Africa (Cameroon/Congo) into East and Southern Africa. I guess the better interpretation of your results is that you share a big chunk of your DNA traits with Eastern African Bantus and a bit with Southern African Bantus, and not necessarily that you have ancestry in Kenya (which you know you are) and South Africa.
