    It’s so funny that you mentioned that wonpil reminded you of Seungmin because Seungmin is a HUGE Day6 fan and his bias is wonpil. He’s mentioned how he looks up to him several times. He’d be downright tickled to hear himself compared to him

    Day6 songs are famously hard to sing, and it's really easy to see why. So many idols have told YoungK on his radio show that they tried and couldn't do it. But honestly, they're one of my fave groups to cry to in the car. I also love all of YoungK's covers he did during the military because his voice is just sooooo good. But thank you for reacting even it's not your cup of tea!

    I totally get with what you're saying, most of their title tracks can be a bit "safe sounding" but that has become their color in Korea. But their bsides definitely have more unique sound to it, and their Japanese songs especially since they don't have to "play safe" cuz after all Japanese loves rock too. But I hope you won't think that most of their songs sound like the ones they've showed on killing voice because there are just tiny little bit shown from their over a hundred songs. They have some of the most diverse discography I've heard in kpop (and I stan a lot of groups). The ones they picked here are the most popular ones in Korea (if you've noticed, Koreans love ballads hence most of their popular songs are slow ish) but they have SO MANY songs that are just so different. But ofc, I respect your opinion, people do have their own preferences after all.

      Oh you liked this lol, so just to add cuz I just remembered, I should've commented this earlier but Jyp has this thing they call "confirmation system" where the staffs and jyp himself would listen to the songs they submit and it's up to them to decide which songs they're gonna approve on the album and as title track. So even though they have 100% hands on their songs, they still can't really decide freely which songs they can release on their album because it's all up to the company. The members have mentioned a couple of times how there are some unreleased songs that they really like and would love to release but just can't because jyp won't approve it.
      Even some demos Young K has released (songs he made for day6 but jyp did not approve of so he just released his demos as gift for fans) are better than SOME of the songs that were actually included on their albums. I wish Jyp would stop on pushing their "heartbreaker ballad songs" as title tracks cuz as much as I love those songs too, but it can get a bit tiring and boring considering how much they already have with those types of songs as title tracks. Like it irks me whenever interviewers would tell them about how they're known for their heartbreaking songs and like in my mind, they actually have other songs than those that are positive, inspirational, boastful and some can even get slutty lol but all they know are their heartbreaking songs. They have so many great and unique songs on their albums but sadly some people won't even know about it unless they're actual fans.
      Even for Young K's latest solo comeback for letters with notes. He had over 11 songs on the album with only 2 ballads and the remaining songs are just a bunch of good variety of genres but Jyp decided to put the most classic cliche ballad as the title track. Like I'm sorry, I love that song too so much but Young K definitely is a rocker type of performer and his other songs are better suited as the title track😭
      sorry this became so long and became a rant for JYPE lmao

    You have to listen to their albums. They have so many great B sides on their albums. And they didn't even cover all their title tracks, either.
    Sungjin, the one with the long coat and their leader, went on hiatus because of anxiety. He got anxious about performing and singing. It took him 3 years to perform again.
    Wonpil, Dowoon, and Young K kept the group afloat while Sungjin was on hiatus.

    Your comments are completely valid and I agree, I think it's the lyricism and how emotive their individual voices are that I associate with Day6's unique sound? i know people have already commented this but I second the fact that this selection was very much a combination of their most popular mainstream title songs and b-sides! They're also a very nostalgic band for me (and a lot of others i think!) which probably adds to their "signature sound" for a lot of people

    I’m usually a silent viewer, but this was a really fun reaction and thanks for giving Day6 another shot! I was hesitant to request it on patreon since you said before that their songs aren’t for you and this killing voice had just the most popular and safe songs, so this was a pleasant surprise. I’m a huge Day6 fan, but I definitely understand that a lot of their music sounds very safe. Partially it may be because that brings them the most success, but it might also be because they collaborate with mostly the same producers throughout all their albums (because their most versatile album “the book of us: entropy” is the one where they worked the least with their usual people, and it shows imo). Since I have pretty basic taste, I love their songs, but I do think that their strength lies in their lyrics more than musical uniqueness (although in the concert I attended, they did some really exciting live remixes and solos); Young K is a songwriting beast, having written basically every Day6 song, his and his member’s solo music and a bunch for other artists too, and I really appreciate his writing.
    You probably don’t plan on checking out any more of their music anytime soon (and I see why), but if you ever decide to give it another go, I would suggest less their titletracks, but songs like “healer”, “cover”, “days gone by”, “blood” or the “book of us: entropy” album, because they show a different side to them.
    Anyways, this was a pretty long way to say thank you for the honest reaction and the Sungjin vocal appreciation. I’m glad it made it to TH-cam (I was honestly expecting to see it on patreon only lol).

    Yayy, okay I just got my chores done and finally sat down to watch this!
    I can’t believe I never noticed the similarities between the progression in ‘I’m Serious’ and ‘Russian Roulette’ 😱 the two songs actually overlay so perfectly omg.
    Totally understand the point you were making about wanting to see more uniqueness especially bc they are a band! Like many have mentioned in the comments, and you also noted is typical of KVs; these are definitely the most sanitized and safe song choices.
    One thing I’ll say about Day6 is that they’ve been in a bit of a difficult position from the start. They were one of the first bands from a major kpop company like JYPE, and as such they are not really idols, but they are also not-NOT idols. They’ve been expected to straddle a tough line and cater to the GP with sometimes very poppy and formulaic title tracks and promote on music shows alongside idol groups, but don’t really get the same investment and resourcing.
    They were basically hung out to dry for several years through the bulk of their career; having to do their own songwriting and composition from day 1, doing a lot of busking, festivals and any little opportunity they could get to perform live and hone their skills/ promote themselves. And Twice debuted a month after them and had JYPEs full focus and resourcing.
    But the upside is that we have such a well-documented journey of their growth! At least 3 of the members were idol trainees and had no idea they’d end up in a band! The drummer is classically trained and went to university specifically for drums, but Sungjin the guitarist hadn’t ever touched a guitar until just 3 months before their debut.
    Now when it comes to uniqueness, I promise you there is SO MUCH COLOUR in their discography. Yes they have to play the title tracks safe for the aforementioned reasons, but one fantastic thing they do well (but didn’t do at all here 😩) is improvisation when performing live. Especially while busking, they switch things up so much! My brother actually likes to call Young K a show off for all the vocal acrobatics he tends to do when performing in more relaxed settings 😂
    If you’re open to it, sometime in the future I’d be happy to share some great examples of their songs and performances that actually properly showcase their creativity 😊
    Oh and you know Young K from his Lee Mujin Service which you did on Patreon! I have that one on my watch list; should get to it soon 😄
    But genuinely, thank you for checking this out! Your observations and the details you appreciate always make your videos a fun watch 💙

    • @Jaydeekatt
      @Jaydeekatt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Oh a couple of things I forgot to mention! I thought they played their instruments beautifully in this KV, however having recently lost a member who was the lead guitarist and also a main vocalist, it wasn’t quite as tight as I’m used to seeing from them. I think it’s an adjustment period at the moment bc for a band, losing a lead guitarist is like losing a limb not to mention he was the vocalist who did opening lines on 80% of their songs (they used to have 4 main vocalists, 5 at debut actually 😅)
      And some other comment also mentioned this but the lyrical content of their music is quite incredible actually.
      Young K is such a gifted songwriter and is currently number #3 in song credits on KOMCA after Ravi & G-Dragon.
      The relatability of their lyrics is a big factor in Day6’s popularity and it translates into beautiful storytelling in their MVs. The MV for Zombie in particular is really something special 💕

  • @pratfallpratt8998
    @pratfallpratt8998 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

    I agree about this selection being a bit safe. They have the same issue as Xdinary Heroes where their title tracks tend to be the simplest ones of their discography bc they have to play them the most and it helps them become more popular if they're easy sing along to, tho I think by nature of their sound being more influenced by kpop and noise music XH does have more room to experiment. And like i said for xh, i personally don't mind that title track simplicity. Basic isn't inherently bad, and it makes them the perfect songs to belt out in the car where no one but ur air freshener can judge u and do ur best air guitar and invisible drum performances along with. Its the sort of anthemic songs i grew up with, so even tho they're from the last decade they still give me a sort of nostalgic vibe.

    I didn't realize you had not reacted much to Day6. Guess it makes sense cos they have a very classic (safe) jrock influenced sound.
    The guy whose voice you liked the most is actually the leader. Also, they've lost a member, a main vocalist during the 7-year renewal. Young K has been all over the industry as a writer-for-hire in recent years, is that why you recognize him?

    That being said there are lot of real gems I love from them, but it’s not for everyone. Like you said this Killing Voice lineup played it quite “safe”, I do wish more b sides were included!

    I definitely understand seeing Day6s title tracks as safe. That being said I kinda love Day6s music for that. Some of my favorite artist like Queen, and Stray Kids are known for really musically engaging songs which tend to be my favorites. Queen (The Prophet Song, Innuendo, March of The Black Queen) and Stray Kids (Tortoise and the Hare, 3rd Eye, Silent Cry). That being said I’d be lying if I said I listened to them often despite being my favorite artist and that’s because a lot of their music (not all) isn’t that easy listening. It’s not something I’ll listen to while on the train or walking down the street most of the time, only if I’m in the right mood. Day6s title tracks however I believe are the perfect example of an easy listen, they are so nice to just have in the background since they add a nice addition to your day. Still my favorite songs by Day6 are their either more heavy, emotional, or vocally interesting songs since I’m a vocalist (Rescue Me, I Need Somebody, All Alone). So yeah I definitely agree with your sentiment but I believe this kinda plain music has a very needed place in the world especially when there’s a lot of overwhelming music (as much as I love it).

    11:35 Sungjin is very much _not_ the maknae; he's their leader and eldest member. The maknae is drummer Dowoon. That said, there's only about 2 1/2 years in it; Sungjin is just 31, Dowoon is 28. (Young K is 30, and keyboard player Wonpil will turn 30 at the end of April.)
    15:20 "Ban-deu-shi oot-neun-da"
    19:50 In the original version, there are occasions where they pronounced "zombie" as you said, like "zom-beh", but it actually does make sense to pronounce it this way because it helps keep to the rhyming scheme.

    i didnt expect russian roullette and im serious to have the same chord progression 😂 music is really interesting.. also ive heard a lot of people be surprised that they do a closed vowel at zombie and i think thats because of the rhyme. the lines after zombie end with an ee sound as opposed to an eh.

    You should definitely react to more of their songs, especially the songs with Jae!! Or react to these songs again with Jae in it because it’s just chef kiss! Jae adds such good flavor to the songs. He’s voice is just so unique and beautiful. 😢 btw love the reactions!

    Appreciate you listening to them despite it not being your usual taste and since they haven't hit in the past. I feel like Day6 is really good at capturing nostalgia and that didn't come through in a medley where the songs are really chopped into bits and pieces. Vocally and energy/presence-wise they also haven't been the same since Jae left - feels a little like they've lost their sweet spot and they're stuck just below the summit of something. For REALLY fantastic harmonies, their live performance of I'll Try is incredible

    If you want a bands title track to be different and unique you should definitely check out Onewe, they have amazing and very unique music, and some unique vocalists. I love Day6 but I can see how sometimes an instrument void needs to be filled in the title track area. Also try Lucy, they have a very different spin that isn't seen in Kpop often! For Onewe I suggest "Aurora","Regulus", and "Veronica"
    For Lucy I suggest "Flowering", "Snooze", and "Play" thanks!

    Your favourites cover most of their songs and you seem to think they are not interesting. It is a very interesting observation. Almost all idol at one time or another have covered at least one Day6 song, unironically. SKZ, especially Han and Seungmin, have covered Day6 god knows how many times.

    • @Portiayuu

      fr, they were called the idols of idols because they really are. There are at least one member in EVERY kpop groups that are mydays (day6 fandom) who constantly recommend ds day6's songs lol, and yes, that also includes those big and popular groups.

    • @Koko3op
      @Koko3op  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I don't care if Jesus Christ himself covered their songs, my opinion can still stand lool and them doing that has nothing to do with my perspective of them singing their own songs. Many people cover Taeyeon's Four seasons and I still dislike the song so what now?
      Why watch an honest review if you're going to be defensive?

    • @Jaydeekatt
      @Jaydeekatt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I don’t think it really matters that much who’s done covers though. At the end of the day, it’s not possible for everyone’s preferences to match. That would actually be boring lol.
      Also it could be a matter of song choices, I’m personally a little bitter that they stuck to title tracks here with only one or two b-sides. As a Day6 shooter, myself I’ll admit that this setlist stayed only in the safe Korean GP-friendly territory on their discography, and didn’t touch the more interesting stuff they have.

    as much as I love day6 title tracks and the b-side they played in this KV medley. there are alot more tracks I would love to hear like "Somehow". I bet all Mydays would agree here. hearing "Somehow" live vocals, or Live performance is heavenly. There's also "like a flowing wind" or "above the clouds" so I can understand. but also. most of the songs they played here. came from their 2017 project called Every Day6 where they release a single every month. so I think that takes away from the uniqueness of it, like to release 2 songs every month, shoot a music video, practice for it. write the lyrics so yeah. but YoungK really did pump out 2 songs every month during that time. what a fckng beast really. I would also like to add that what's really the style of Day6 is having a happy instrument with sad lyrics and they make it so well.
    for other songs outside of Every Day6 Project. it's always like what's perfect for that time. for example Zombie, they released zombie during the peak of covid time where everyone really feels like a zombie doing the same thing over and over.
    for Days Gone By. at that time no one really makes these 80s nostalgia kind of songs that currently most kpop groups have atleast 1 song of it. but there's like a shortage of that music when they release that. I'd even say that they probably brought it back.
    Shoot Me is just after they finished Every Day6. having burnt out of making soft typical band formulaic music every single month for a year. They released shoot me for a change.
    Time of our life, these was when they started touring around the world, and having such a fun song to play in concerts and have everyone jumping around is great really.

    I get what you're saying, some of their songs can be generic or safe to play for the public, and that is mostly because those are the popular songs. I mean, day6 also have a lot of tracks that are incredible, the japanese releases are so freaking good, and songs such as Deep in love, rescue me, so let's love or I need somebody can be a good example of how good they can be playing with other genres and expanding their ability with their instruments. Their sub unit Even of a day (Drummer Dowoon, keyboardist Wonpil and bassist Young K) are also very good, their last album was like three years ago and almost all of the tracks are a completely different genre. I recommend you to give them a try, they are so good! Thank you so much for the reaction ❤❤

    You're so spot on with at least what they've played here. While they write all their songs, they still submit their songs for approval. Zombie was born out of the need to constantly write music that they thought would get approved. Like these dudes can write songs can write songs on the fly but what gets approved are naturally the ones that the higher-ups would know the public would want. And I feel like the connection you want from the rhythm and the bass isn't there as much because they basically lost their lead guitar who used to interact with the bass the most and with the keyboard in terms of call and answer. They're still looking for a sound that's still them but without having to rely on their previous member for it to sound complete.
    Sungjin is my favorite vocalist too.

    I always 100% respect the musical tastes of reaction youtubers. However, I think that in order to evaluate certain singer's/band's music - especially if it's a bit of strong critical view - the full listening of the song must precede critism. Not just a short medley of songs that have been edited and released through the other channels.

    Man, it just doesn't feel the same without Jae. I think he has been the face of the group for many international fans, and him leaving feels much more irreplaceable then typical idols leaving groups (bc of guitar too). I wish I could support them more, but that FOUREVER title is just a final nail in the coffin for me. Hopefully Jae was onto something and someday the members will leave JYP and reunite with Jae, but I very much doubt it. It feels like they are much less prone to do so than GOT7 for example and will just stay with JYP comfortably
