For context, their lead guitarist left the group. So apart from having vocal parts to cover, the rhythm guitarist (your bias) has been switching it up between lead and rhythm. I think they fill in both vocal and instrumental parts exceptionally, all things considered 🤍 I also think they chose their songs that are more vocal-heavy because, well, Killing Voice, but they have a lot of b-sides that have vastly different flavors in terms of the instrumentals.
And the drummer's beautiful deep voice can be heard a bit in short solo parts of some of their songs. But even if his hyungs keep encouraging him to sing more (they're the biggest fans of his voice), he joined the band as just a drummer with no vocal training prior, and he maintains that he's happier away from the microphone 😅 If you want to hear more of their vocal harmonies, including his, I suggest you check out their live studio performance of "I'll try" which showcases a 5-part a cappella harmony. It's really fucking awesome!

The band consists of four members: Sungjin (Leader, electric and acoustic guitarist, main vocalist), Young K (Bass, main vocalist, rapper) Wonpil (keyboardist, synthesizer, main vocalist), and Dowoon ( vocalist, Drummer) Originally a six-piece band, Day6 became 4 members after 2 members left. All of the Day6 members are heavily involved in writing, composing and producing the band's music.

They debuted as a 6 members group in 2015. In 2016, Junhyeok (vocalist, keyboardist) left the group. In 2021, Jae (vocalist, rapper, lead guitarist) left the group. The group went on hiatus from 2021 to 2024 due to he members military service. While the group was on hiatus, the members continued to work as a sub unit (Day6 Even of Day) and as solo artist

YOUNGK : Vocalist, Rapper, Bassist, Lyricist
DOWOON : Drummer, Vocalist
The reason Sungjin isn't playing lots of melody on the guitar is mainly because there used to be 2 guitarists in the group ! Since they came back (2024), he tries to play some of the former lead guitarist parts from time to time (for exemple the riff at the end of Shoot Me (35:46) used to be played by Jae)
They compose and write all their songs, YoungK is their main lyricist, he wrote more than 175 songs so far (for his group and other artists)
Dowoon, the drummer, doesn’t sing often ; he was recruited solely to play the drums. He started taking vocal lessons a few years ago and now either do backup vocals or have some little parts in a few songs (Lean on Me, Wanna Go Back, Day and Night, Beautiful Feeling, 365247 etc…), he has a single with Song Heejin where he sings !
They tend to explore the different types of sound a band can do. The album that showcase that the best is The Book of Us : Entropy (title track : Sweet Chaos (36:56)), the variety of genres in it is truly great !

Young K currently has 186 songs registered on KOMCA and is ranked 3rd now among idols that has the most copyright. Crazy to think that it hasn’t even been a year since he discharged from the military.
Most of the songs in the beginning (minus the first one) actually do have some guitar melodies going on but unfortunately the exit of their lead guitarist means their rhythm guitarist has to adjust his parts. They've also only recently started activities again as a full band since they took a very long hiatus due to military service, so maybe that's why they played it safe in terms of what songs they played and how crazy they went. Also, the parts they played for the songs they chose were also the "safest" parts which is why some songs seemed average instrumentally (they usually go crazy during most of their bridges which is why you really liked "I Smile" which had the synth solo)
Overall though, I do think they focus more on vocals and presentation because they're kinda presented as a pseudo kpop group even though they're a band. (also I remember you said you wanted to check out that gospel-sounding love song and the title is in korean so the english title for it is "Only" if you wanted to check it out)

The drummer named Dowoon has sing part in some songs like, Day and Night, 365247, Beautiful Feeling, Wanna Go Back, Lean on Me, I'll Try (he harmonized), and others.... yoon dowoon , the drummer is the youngest in the group and he usually not sings but they have a few of songs that have him sing in it like one bside from each album also he released a digital single ( a duet ) a few years ago that have only him singing in it
Wonpil (keyboardist and my personal fav vocalist in the band)'s eyes really do add to his charm.
If u compare how far his mic is set up, u will figure out why he sounds quiter than the other 2. It's a volume issue but they all killed it!

as a Meloday (Melody (btob) and myday (day6). I find it funny when you said that melodies got Day6's backs cuz I did notice that there are a lot of Melodies who are also mydays and vice versa and you could tell that we're stanning because of the vocals lol
thanks for reacting to day6! i do must say, they originally started with 6 members, but then became 5 members and recently one member left the group, thus leaving 4 members left in the group. so yes, there were two guitarists before, but then now leaving only one, thus Sungjin (2nd guy, leader of day6) having to play more of the chords instead of the melody, but regardless he still nailed the melodic parts since it wasn't his before!
for the songs that are almost all pretty much similar, which btw are all produced by the bassist, Young K (all of the songs of day6 are produced & composed by him!) would probably have a reason, as they used to have a project where they had to release 2 songs every month for the year, hence probably having similar melodies & tones, and most of these songs were actually the popular ones amongst the people, as it's very much of a sing along, and a vibey song that has meaningful lyrics.
they definitely are a much versatile group since they love experimenting every time they have a comeback, and alot of them did not make it to the killing voice unfortunately, but i hope you can check them out if you do have the time :)
Now for our drummer, being the youngest of the group, Dowoon, does sing! But he rarely sings (but now he does quite often than before) in songs, but he does have a song called Out of the Blue that showcases his lower tone. He does feel shy everytime he sings, so that's why he prefers not to, but when he does, fans absolutely loves it.
If you do check out any more Day6 discography, they have different albums starting from debut with different meanings, lyrically interesting and close to heart :)

hii just want to correct but not all songs by day6 were composed and produced by Young K. Young K does compose a lot of their songs but if anything that he has more contribution about, it’s his lyric writing (he wrote about 95% of day6’s song and is known as the main lyricist of day6, he also writes and compose songs for other artists) For composition, Wonpil does it more than him (and former member Jae too) most songs that are known in day6 are composed by Wonpil mostly with Young K for the lyrics. But Young K also compose A LOT of their songs but as their main lyricists, he’s often more focused on doing the lyrics. For producing, they often work with Hong Jisang for that (he has worked with them from the very beginning).
Even for their latest comeback “Fourever” Wonpil and Sungjin had composed all of their songs (Young K composed too except for 3 songs) but Young K had written the lyrics for all 7 songs since Young K is crazy busy with his career now so writing the lyrics is probably something that he can do more flexibly since he can just write it in any of his schedules.

i'm not gonna write anything about the band, since so many people already told you about them. i'll just say that i went to day6 concert in 2020 (pre-pandemic, when they still had 5 members) and to this day it remains the best live performance i've ever seen. they can really REALLY sing, the energy was unmatched, people were crying during the sad songs and going completely crazy during the bangers. also, it would be very interesting to see you react/analyze their entire discography, album by album (not only title tracks but also b-sides), it's pretty much a non-skip collection, the songs imo are timeless. wishing you well!

thanks for reacting to day6! they do have more poprock-ish/heavier songs as their b-sides such as I Wait, I Need Somebody, Rescue Me, Shoot Me (atleast those are the ones i remember).
funfact, in 2017 they had this project called EveryDay6 where they released 2 songs each month for the whole year! and in that project, there is 1 songs i would recommend to be reacted. its called I'll Try. Wonpil (the keyboardist) wrote the song bcs he was inspired by his mom's unconditional love. its a ballad/slower, such a beautifully crafted, played and sang song. really showcased the piano and their vocals harmonies. so good.
They reunited after a four-year break (including military service) as a full group. There isn't enough time to cover their discography, so the comments on this video are full of other song requests. Thank you for watching day6's video together.
Their bassist - Young K is the main lyricist of the group, cos he wrote almost all their songs. He also a solo artist and radio DJ. A lot of popular K-pop Idols/artists are Young K fans! I`d advise you to check his cover-project - "YOUNG ONE", there`s a lot of English songs (btw he is fluent in it). My fav: "Love Me Less" (Max, Quinn Xcii cover), "What Am I" (Why Don't We cover), "Last Call" (Hudson Thames cover), "Like A Star" (Corinne Bailey Rae cover), "What A Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong cover)

yeah you were talking about ryeowook! one of the main vocalists of suju and has that distinct high pitch tone. funny thing is that's who i was reminded of Wonpil as well when i first got into DAY6. 😊

thanks for reacting to day6!!! when i was with my sister and she was just listening to this as i was watching it and 'you were pretty' was playing she was thought it was "letting go" when it first started, similar to how you thought they were the same song at 19:39. i think these came out around the same time as someone had pointed out about their monthly releases during that year so its reasonable that they would sound similar haha .

There was a time when he got insecured with his voice to the point he went on hiatus during 2020-2023. I remember from one of his interviews talking about how he's so scared of singing that he pre-recorded his own vocal parts so he could only do lip syncing during their concert. But really, he doesn't know there are many My Days (fan's name) who love his vocals including me and so thank you very much for appreciating Sungjin's (second guy) vocals 🥺😭
Also, I hope you can react to DAY6's younger band labelmates called Xdinary Heroes. They're the opposite of DAY6 since this band had release more rock-ish songs. My suggestions are Break the Brake, Freakin' Bad, their b-sides called Strawberry Cake, and Bicycle...
DAY6's Title Tracks are almost always focused more on vocals, but I promise that if you give their B-Sides a chance, you will be greatly surprised by their instrumentals. I recommend "The Book Of Us: Entropy", "Youth Pt1: Shoot Me" or "Youth Pt2: Remember Us". ✨
I just wanted to say that the simpler songs are mostly their earlier songs and that might be partly because Sungjin (the guitarist) only started to learn to play the guitar three months before the band’s debut. So he probably wasn’t very confident yet.
it was also because he was the rhythm guitarist and the lead guitarist left the group in 2021 so he had to adjust covering some of Jae’s instrumental part. While Jae’s absence is evident on the instruments, but I can say that they all still did really really great especially Sungjin who has been changing up his playing constantly from rhythm to lead, and to think that he only learned the guitar 3 months before day6’s debut. Talk about major improvement.

I appreciate that you took the time to react to Day6, they are amazing and have a lot of incredible music through Day6, the Even of Day subunit and solo stuff.
Btw their lead guitarist left the band not so long ago. All the songs except the first one were written to be played with two guitarists, that is why it may sound a little bland sometimes, although I think they're doing an excellent job, I won't deny that I miss their previous sound
Fun fact: the only one with music degrees is a drummer, the bassist majored in business administration and we don't rly know abt the other two.
Their discography is full of various genres, i kinda understand they only included the famous one here, cuz general public loving it more, but honestly my favorite album is Entropy and Demon! You should check their discopraphy!

Also it's hard to find a such talented group who everyone can sing and playing instrument at the same time, so day6 is really special to me 😂❤
